About the property

6 bedroom, 5.5 baths (4 en-suite), river views captured by 3 stories of windows

Welcome to the French Broad River Lodge! An elegant escape nestled on the French Broad River, just North of Asheville, North Carolina, this property features magnificent accommodations within easy reach of all the city’s diverse attractions. With easy freeway access and close proximity to local shopping and restaurants, the property gets high marks for convenience. But it is its picturesque setting that makes it irresistible.

Recently renovated and updated with modern amenities, the house features six bedrooms, sleeping up to 18 in bedrooms. Four of the bedrooms feature en suite baths, and all five and a half bathrooms were redesigned and updated with luxurious spa features.

Dramatic walls of windows span the house’s three levels, and with views of the river from every room, this is a house for all seasons. Enjoy the surrounding lush green foliage of spring and summer, the vibrant hues of autumn, and the canyon views of winter. Relax on one of the house’s three deck spaces or explore the hundreds of feet of private river bank to enjoy the views and sounds of the river. Cozy up inside beside the fireplace, or build a campfire on the river bank and make s’mores. Better yet, do it all!

Here’s a quick tour of the house:

Other amenities: Well-equipped kitchen, gas indoor fireplace, gas grill, flat screen TVs with cable/DVRs, bluetooth stereo/CD player, DVD/Blue-Ray Players, High-speed wireless internet, landline phone with free local and long distance within US, board games, portable crib/bassinet, paved/covered parking, paved road access, cell coverage from the property for major carriers.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW

• This property is riverfront on a whitewater river. All access and use of the river is at your own risk. You must be prepared to closely watch your children (and husbands/boyfriends)!

• Like all major rivers, the French Broad river canyon also serves as a transportation artery. This includes the road that this home is located on and a rail line across the river. There are no crossings, so the trains do not blow their whistles or ring bells... you'll occasionally hear the romantic rumble of the trains over the sound of the river. This is a minor trade-off to being on the riverfront, but we believe you'll agree it's a worthy one.

About Jason Graves

We are two families that are long-time friends and co-workers. Between us we have kids ranging in age from toddlers to teenagers, and we love to travel to the Asheville area. We have rented a number of the available properties, but wanted to find the ideal spot... so we decided to create it ourselves. If we weren't busy working (as environmental engineers, a Realtor/former NASA flight operations engineer, and a microcontroller product engineer, turned author) we'd be fighting over which family would get to move in full-time!

Jason Graves purchased this house in 2014

Why Jason Graves chose Asheville Area

In short, the RIVER!!!! After sharing another property as a vacation rental last year, and seeing that we weren't the only ones seeking out the perfect property, we thought we should try to find another ideal vacation home and vacation rental. When we found this home, we immediately saw the potential. After undergoing an extensive renovation completed in 2015, it had the attributes we were looking for: multiple master bedrooms, great views, completely modernized amenities, and ideal convenience to all that the Asheville area has to offer.

What makes this house unique

Key benefits of River House are:

- Riverfront property this close to downtown!

- multiple master bedrooms with en-suite baths

- 6 bedrooms and 5 and a half baths

- over 2000 square feet of decks/outdoor living space

- walls of windows to view the river

- easy all-paved access to a major freeway

- high speed internet and cell coverage (rare for mountain properties)

WOW! What a stunner!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place with all the amenities, in the most picturesque location you could possibly dream up. The slow rumble of a train would occasionally drown out the sound of the river in the most pleasant way. Loved our stay, and are so grateful for Jason's excellent communication. Would definitely return for another visit!

Eclipse 2017

  • 5 of 5

This home was a great location for our family reunion. We used the house as our "base" and drove to Franklin to view the Eclipse. There was more than enough room for our family of 15. The view of the river right out our front door was fabulous! We enjoyed listening to the river while reading on the front patio or side deck. The hot tub was wonderful. We had a couple of campfires as well. Getting to Asheville was fairly easy, though some members of our group found it simpler to "Uber" there rather than deal with parking in town (especially on a weekend night). Some of the young adults in our group went tubing and zip lining. We discovered the Arts District on this trip, visited a few breweries and finally got to "Shindig on the Green" downtown. It was a great week, and this was a great house for a large group to enjoy being together and experience all that Asheville has to offer!

Great house

  • 4 of 5

The house worked well for a family of 15 adults. The French Broad River is an added bonus. Many late afternoons we were sitting and watching the river go buy. We did find the air condition hard to adjust on the first floor.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review and we are glad you enjoyed the home! I'm sure I will have questions about this review, so I will try to answer them here: This home has a ~2 year old state of the art air conditioning and heating system. It is a multi-zone control unit with independent programmable electronic thermostats on each level. Adjusting the level on any of the floors should be as simple as adjusting the temperature on the thermostat. It is possible that the thermostat was confusing for this user, or it is possible that there was a mechanical problem, though we have had no concerns expressed to us from subsequent guests in the house. In either case, always contact the owner if you are having trouble with a system in a house you are staying in. We are here to help troubleshoot any system, and would rather call our AC technician under our 24-hr service contract than have any guest be at all uncomfortable in one of our homes. Please understand that we can't help solve a problem if we hear about it after you have left. Thanks! Jason

Just got back today and tonight we'll be looking at dates for next year

  • 5 of 5

Really is a great house for a large group. We ended up with 19 people and everyone collectively felt it was perfect for a group that size. Everyone had their own space and was very comfortable. The home sets up very well for the adults to all hang out and party on the upstairs patio off the kitchen and the kids claimed the downstairs fire pit area for themselves. Being ON the river really makes it work even better and the kids loved it. I'm not normally one to write a review but this house really is set up nice and we will definitely be back.

Relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a relaxing vacation at the French Broad River Lodge. Our family of 11 enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching the river rush by. The house is gorgeous, plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The location is perfect for enjoying the area's attractions including tubing, white water rafting, downtown Asheville, and the Blue Ridge parkway.
