Enter the house from the ground level or go up the stairs to the deck on the middle level and enter the house.

Ground Level: This level of the house has a family room converted to a bedroom with a queen bed. There is also a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo, a laundry room, and the garage is now a game room with a pool table. Keep warm in the game room with the toasty space heater.

Upstairs (middle level): Go up the stairs into the kitchen. This cool eat-in kitchen is right next to the dining area in the great room. Patio doors take you from the kitchen to the deck. The deck wraps around the back, one side and the front of the house! The kitchen is outfitted with all major appliances (stove has 2 burners and a Jenn-Air-type grill. You can cook in pots on the grill section, too!) and quite a few small appliances. There is a hand-held food blender, and a food processor, and more. A breakfast bar and a tall bar table are in the kitchen. There is also a wine fridge!

Off the kitchen is the big, long great room. Closest to the kitchen is the dining area. A big table, several chairs and an antique church pew give your family room to eat together.

On the other side of the great room is the living room. 2 sofas and a recliner, flat screen cable TV, colorful paintings and lots of windows so you can really enjoy the view. Between the dining & living areas is a large stone gas log fireplace (for use Oct 1st through Mar 31st, only) with side windows so you can see the fire from anywhere in the room!

Off the living room, and also down the hall from the kitchen, is a bedroom with 2 queen sleigh beds. This bedroom has a full bathroom, and a door leads out to the hallway. The bathroom is quite large (all the bathrooms in the house are big) and it has a step-in shower AND an antique claw-foot bathtub!

A flight of stairs takes you to the Top Floor: 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms are on this level. The bedroom in the front of the house has a king bed and a flat screen cable TV. A door in this bedroom leads to another bedroom. That bedroom has a queen bed and has another door out to the hallway. A full bathroom with a tub/shower combo is in the hallway, just outside the king bedroom.

At the back of the house there is another bedroom with a queen bed, and a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo. This bedroom has patio doors that lead out to a deck. Stairs from the deck lead to the deck of the middle level of the house.

Very Spacious

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 had a great time. There was plenty of space for everyone. Everything was clean and well kept. My sister and brother-in-law enjoyed the hot tub on the back deck. One small, small thing would be just to add another TV. My mother wanted to watch her Game Shows all day. LOL. But I would definitely recommend this house to my friends and family. Looking forward to coming back next year.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry you did not like the house. In response to your deceptive review I will reply with the following: 1) The house is treated for pests every 4 months, by a professional pest control company. It recently had a treatment. The entire exterior of the house was coated. Every window and dorway was treated, inside and out. Any insents, spiders, centipedes, etc. that happen to make it past the walls, windows or doors die very soon after because they have crossed the lethal barrier the pest control company sprayed. Since we are not there 24 hours a day we can't clean up the dead and dying bugs 24 hours a day. We sent housekeepers to clean them up the afternoon of the day before your arrival. The day you checked out, they cleaned up about 8 dead bugs, so if you cleaned up any while you were in the house ONLY 8 more came in and died. That is a small amount for a 2500 square foot house in the woods. Yesterday there were 2 dead bugs. The pest control treatment is working to keep bugs away, and kill those that persist in entering the house. 2) The breaker for the air conditioning had tripped off, probably during a recent storm when the electric power flickered. One of our office staff tried explaining this to the sister of the woman who rented the house when she called. That person did not want to receive help on the phone and refused to go check the breaker. This meant you had to wait for the maintenance man to come to the house, check the breaker right away, and flip it back on. You would have had air conditioning much sooner if you'd allowed yourselves to receive the help we tried to give you on the phone. 3) Our housekeepers use Tide pods to launder the linens. White linens also have Clorox bleach used on them, colored linens have Clorox 2 used on them. All we can figure is you don't like that scent, and we apologise for that. There is no way we can know what combination of laundry scents each guest prefers. We just use what we know will work to properly clean the bed linens. Rest assured, we won't be charging you the additional $60 it took to clean every window children could reach and smear their hands all over with what looked to be Crisco shortening. Again, we are sorry you did not like the house that brings many families back over & over. Sincerely, the Massanutten Vacation team

Wonderful chalet with the National Forest in the backyard

  • 5 of 5

Massanutten was a central location for my family members who are scattered throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. I chose Chestnut villa based on the photos, description, and amenities. With the proximity to strenuous outdoor activities, we all knew we wanted a hot tub in which to soak at the end of the day. We also wanted a house with multiple levels to give us privacy when we wanted it. The house did not disappoint. In addition, it was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the multiple decks gave us great views front and back. If we come back to Massanutten for another weekend, we will definitely book this house if it is available.

We Loved this Vacation House!

  • 5 of 5

Two other couples rented this home with us during ski season and we loved it. All together there were 7 children and 6 adults and the house offered.everything we needed. The kitchen was spacious and fully-equipped and the furniture in the living areas was large and comfortable. The gas logs added to the ambiance and the bedrooms were beautifully appointed. The house was neat as a pin upon arrival. The home offers panoramic views of mountain vistas and the surrounding area. It was especially nice to have three floors because the kids hung out mainly on the lower level with the pool table and hot tub (really nice!) allowing great privacy and a little quiet for the adults. My husband is a writer and he was still able to work on the third floor. All in all, a great week in a great house with everything we needed at our fingertips. I would rent this house again in a minute. I recommend without reservation.

Marvelous Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were extremely pleased! Our children(8 & 5) had a couple of weeks off for spring break, so we decided that a "mountain getaway" would be a great way to spend a week away. After looking through what was available around the Massanutten area, we decided on this property. It appeared to have everything that we would want (wifi, hot tub, great views, etc.), and it certainly delivered. This house has a very cozy feel to it, and that was one of the things that we liked the most. There was lots of light, very nice views of the surrounding landscape, and the back of the house is situated against a forest, so it doesn't feel like there other houses on top of you. The kitchen was very nice and open, and all of the necessary cookware and appliances were provided. This house has three floors of living space, and there are bedrooms on each floor, so there are plenty of options to choose form when it comes to sleeping. Our children chose the room on the "main" floor, which had two beds, and was connected to a bathroom with both a tub and a separate shower. My wife and I chose a room on the top floor, with a very nice view from the three large windows. The bed in our room was extremely comfortable. There is a very nice, and relaxing, hot tub on the patio off of the kitchen, which was especially nice on a couple of the cool nights that we had when we were there. We found that the there are a TON of things to do at Massanutten Resort, and this place is only a couple of minutes from everything. Skiing, the waterpark, hiking, go carts, everything was just a short car ride from this property. This time was just for the four of us, but we've talked about trying to coordinate a trip this summer that includes a couple of other families, and this will definitely be the place that we book!

Not again!

  • 1 of 5

Wow this house is in major need of some updating. We were there after Christmas with a couple of other families and this house is not child friendly. There is a set of steps leading from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor that we could not let the children use as the banister railing was coming from the wall. In one room there was literally five inches of dust under the bed. The house set off my daughters asthma and had to start breathing treatments as soon as we got home. The driveway is straight uphill and if there had been bad weather I am not sure how that would work. FYI there is only parking for two vehicles. If you have more they will have to park down the hill. Luckily the weather was great the week we went otherwise the couple staying in the "garage" that has been closed in would have frozen. The floors were filthy. We turned the gas logs on and all you could smell was propane so we turned them off. The furniture is thrift store quality and the artwork is questionable. The kids particularly liked the nude picture of the woman bending over that is hung in one of the bathrooms. Try explaining that to children. I would not recommend this house.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry you did not like this house. It is one of our most popular homes because of the amenities, the size of the house and the renovations that were done to it. If we'd known the banister needed work, while you were here, we would have sent maintenance to fix it. 5 inches of dust under a bed? My husband & I bought a house, in July, that was vacant almost 18 years and there was not even an inch of dust in that house. The house was cleaned, and inspected, even underneath the beds, before you checked in. No beds had 5 inches of duest under them. Factually, there was no dust under the beds. I have asthma. If I am having trouble breathing I don't wait until I get home to take my breathing treatments. I take them right where I am. Please, in the future, give your daughter her breathing treaments right away. Guests stay in the house and get up the driveway when it snows, because we have a crew of men who clear our driveways at all our vacation homes so no one's vacation is ruined. There is parking for, at least, 4 cars. Some guests have had 6 cars parked in the driveway. There is no bedroom in the garage. The garage was converted into a game room and there is a pool table in it, enjoyed by many guests. The pool table is one of the amenities guests like! Floors are swept, dust mopped AND mopped after every family leaves. Propane logs sometimes give off a propane smell. When I've stayed in vacation houses with a propane smell, I open a window about 1/8 inch. The furniture is not thrift store quality. It was purchased, new, when the home owner was getting the house ready for us to rent, a little over a year ago. The painting in the bathroom of the woman shows no private parts or even her behind. You can see her back as she is bent over. It's placed over the tub so it looks like someone is getting into the tub. There is a picture of the bathroom, showing the painting, on our listings. Anyone who has a problem with that pretty painting can easily see it on the listings. Again, I am sorry you did not like this vacation house. Sincerely, Katrina, rental manager of the Massanutten Vacation team
