Beautiful remote place
We absolutely enjoyed this basic getting-away-from-it all place, which is well looked after by its friendly owners and comes fully equipped to cover all basic needs. It provides perfect access to the National Park and a quiet beach is just a short walk from the house. If the weather does not cooperate a superb library will help you get through.
You were more than welcome!
Private, family getaway that will live on in our memories forever!
My wife and I stayed three nights in this gorgeous home last August, with our 18-month old son. From the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere special. The privacy, the short walk through the tall grass and small trees to the beach, the campfire in the evenings, the beautiful wood floors and big bright windows.
We would walk up the country lane to the bakery for delicious French bread. We drove the short distance to get coffee, and then took the winding road to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which was just a few minutes from our doorstep. The little town of Cheticamp offered restaurants and plenty of beer and wine for our long evenings by the fire. The bed was comfortable. The breeze from the sea blowing into the house was fresh and lovely.
Our son loved the house and the yard, running through the grass and playing on the beach. The water was a little cold for August, but it is northern Nova Scotia after all! We are American and cannot believe the contrast between our busy southern beaches and this pristine, scenic private beach -- I'd take the cold water any day over chaotic and sweltering Ocean City.
Although we were only there for three nights, it quickly became "our cottage" and we never wanted to leave. I only wish we had stayed more than three nights. We hope to come back again and relive these wonderful memories soon!
Quiet and homey
This is a wonderful getaway cottage that’s isolated and quiet yet close to the town and the park. The cottage is very well equipped with an impressive and diverse collection of books and CDs which gives it a homey feel. Roger was very responsive to our needs throughout the week. Staying at Sunset Lane is about getting away from it all and we enjoyed our stay. We liked the large living space but as Nancy R noted we also found the large bed in the living area to be a bit odd. A sofa bed would make much more sense and provide some additional comfortable seating. We were also looking forward to using the studio bedroom and was disappointed that it now serves as shed. The photos and description of the rental definitely needs to be updated.
The captain's bed in the living room serves as a wonderfully comfortable bed with a view of the night sky if desired. It also serves as a cozy couch.
The studio is under renovation at the moment, hence its unavailability this month.
A comfortable, quiet getaway in a great location for exploring Cape Breton.
We spent five nights at the house on Sunset Lane while we hiked and explored in the national park. The house is well -equipped and pretty , close to a beach for walking, and the town of Cheticamp where we ate at several restaurants and listened to amazing music at the Doryman. Everything we needed was there to settle in and enjoy our time in Nova Scotia. We'd love to come back someday.
A wonderful getaway!
Our group of 4 (2 couples) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Chetticamp! The location of this house was perfect for us!! Easy access to the beach , the bakery, the park and Chetticamp. The upstairs beds were small but very comfortable. We had most everything we needed and the washer & dryer was a bonus! We would've liked to have a sitting area with a couch and a gas grill rather than the small hibachi for cooking outside. Also, the studio did not look as inviting as shown in the picture. The view from the deck was absolutely lovely - wonderful sunsets!!! Also, communication with Roger was very easy - he was always available to answer any questions we had.
Beautiful location and fabulous cottage
Gorgeous spaces, lovely for groups, bedrooms delightful, bedding and beds top notch, and sunsets divine. Can't recommend it highly enough. Surrounded by trees and roses. Close to Cheticamp -- a few minutes' drive. Walking distance to a lovely local bakery, too! Hosts terrific. I hope to be back for a longer stay next time!
