Reserve soon! We're already booking for the 2018 season!
Life of Riley Lodge is the Yellowstone area's closest and most nicely appointed waterfront vacation rental. Our goal is to deliver the ultimate in comfort and luxury that Yellowstone has to offer. With Big Sky, MT & Jackson Hole, WY both 1-2 hours further from the park, Life of Riley Lodge is the closest premier residences to the main (West/most visited) gate of the park. The lodge is a nearly 40 yr old original Yellowstone style hand-scraped whole log cabin, completely renovated and newly decorated in 2015. Spanning over 3000 sqft with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths sleeping 13 guests on 3 king size and 7 twin size Tempur-Pedic and pillow-top mattresses we are among the less than 3% of Yellowstone area rental houses with air conditioning. We are one of the only rentals to provide trash removal service, electronic keypad locks (no lost keys!) and a full exterior CCTV security system for your safety. The Yellowstone basin can get very hot in July/August and we think AC is a must for a luxury vacation. Almost all area rental agreements require that you drop off all your trash at a landfill that is about a 1/2 hour drive each way, make you pick up keys, and require you spend the last day of your vacation laundering linens...inconveniences you will not experience with us! While there are a wide variety of housing options in the Island Park/West Yellowstone area, we are one of the only catering to an authentic yet plush and comfortable Yellowstone vacation experience that takes the rough out of roughing it. With a private shoreline set between towering mountains on bucolic Henry's Lake - this is the area's premier lake if you want to feel like you are still in Yellowstone Park. Island Park Reservoir for comparison is in a mostly flat valley frequented by the motorsports crowd, a totally different experience. On Henrys Lake you can enjoy trophy fishing, hiking, boating, horseback riding, or ATV/UTV/Rafting tours just 10 mins away. Contact us to learn more about the Yellowstone vacation you have been dreaming about.
A word of caution: a good portion of the area rental properties are also currently listed for sale. We are not, nor will we be. Be sure to inquire as this may result in the cancellation of your reservation or walk-throughs during your stay.
Bordering Yellowstone at an elevation near 7000 feet, we are located on the private shoreline of Henry's Lake, on the Idaho/Montana border. Henry's is one of the most renowned and award winning trophy fishing lakes in the country due to world class scenery and the Idaho state record for the largest trout caught! Google it!
Drive through the lodge's big gate to park and then immediately soak in the 360 degree waterfront and mountain views. Next, enter the cabin on the 2nd floor which opens to the Great Room and kitchen. The wood burning fireplace towers over two dueling custom American made Bradington & Young distressed leather sofas, the finest hand made rugs, an all hardwood dining table with 10 upholstered chairs and three barstools at the adjoining bar- enough seating for a full house to enjoy meals together. The chef's kitchen has new appliances and is fully outfitted with literally everything you will need to serve a gourmet meal to all of your guests. The giant great room is the main gathering spot and the best room for jaw dropping views.
Continuing upstairs on the 3rd floor is the loft and master suite. The cozy quiet loft is above the fray and is the perfect place to read a book or watch the wildlife on the lake with a giant panoramic view, this is perhaps the most relaxing place in the lodge. Past the loft is the master bedroom suite. Perfect for the small family with child and completely redone with all new furniture, fixtures, a twin size and a king size bed, both with Tempur-Pedic mattress and Ralph Lauren bedding , the lodge’s largest suite is its finest. Including a large desk plus high-speed WiFi with everything the vacationing executive will need. Within the master suite is the master bath with full bath and multiple head shower. The other half of the suite is complimented by two tweed Churchill recliners and a new 50” Samsung LED TV/BluRay DVD/DirectTV DVR. The king size bed is separated with a small partition wall from the twin bed for a little extra privacy, yet still open enough to one another so that parents can hear their little one through the night.
Back down to the main floor are two additional king bed suites with bathroom and additional laundry facilities: the Lodgepole and the Madison.
The Madison Suite has views of the lake and Continental Divide mountain range, American made Woolrich and Ralph Lauren bedding, king size Tempur-Pedic mattress, all new furniture and fixtures, TV/DVR - easily the lodge's most masculine suite. This suite comes complete with large walk in closet, black velvet chair, and New Zealand Shearling rug.
Next, the Lodgepole Suite with views of the Continental Divide. Very much living up to it’s name, the slightly larger Lodgepole Suite is the lodge’s most rustic. Complete with American made Woolrich and Ralph Lauren bedding, Pillowtop king size mattress, sitting bench, new fixtures and a 32” Samsung LED TV with BluRay DVD, Direct TV and Wifi. This is the where to sleep for a 100% authentic Yellowstone experience.
Down the stairs and located on the first floor is the Theater, 6-bed Bunk Room, 3rd bathroom, gear & extra laundry room. The theater has a gas fireplace surrounded by a massive 250 yr old timber mantle, new carpet, and new leather furniture and recliner. Decorated with a nod to adventure, science, exploration, and archaeology, the theater has a new immersive 70” Samsung LED screen hung above the fireplace, Bose surround sound system, Blu-Ray DVD, Direct TV DVR with nearly every channel, and a new HD retro Atari console with all your favorite games from the 70’s and 80’s. Perhaps on those bad weather days the kids will not be the only ones playing video games.
Located behind the theater on the first floor is the Yellowstone Bunk Room with six large private bunks with a view of a small meadow, this is the perfect place to sleep the kids or adults on heavy and safe USA built wood bunks. Featuring both innerspring and memory foam mattresses, no expense was spared on any detail. Warm Pendleton Woolen Mills Heritage Camp Blankets and fleece indian blankets from Oregon adorn each bed, vintage metal and wood Yellowstone signs, and a giant Yellowstone Junior Ranger Fire Brigade themed locker room/dressing room-you won't feel like you ever even left the park. Adjoining the bunk room is a big multi-entrance bathroom with rain shower. The Bunk Room can help comfortably accommodate a packed house without the need to share beds. Including a small sofa, duel Samsung LED TVs for gaming and TV viewing at the same time (so no arguing amongst the kids), and new Sony BluRay Playstation 4 with wireless controllers, hi speed WiFi, and parent lockable DirectTV content. Life of Riley Lodge tries to go the extra mile by supplying a high-chair, baby gate, Pack'n'play, and enough active indoor and outdoor game options so that your children are guaranteed to go to bed exhausted and content every night.
For our favorite part of the lodge though, look outside under the four giant shade sails and find the main attraction - the lakefront promenade. New outdoor kitchen with XL grill bed, 2 stovetop burners, extra searing grill, lighting, mini fridge and prep table, duel 2-person hammocks & duel 150lb cast iron fire-pit pagodas surrounded by tons of adirondack chairs framed against 360 postcard views...you start to understand why the property is categorically superior to all other competition.
The fenced property also includes mature tree lined borders with professionally manicured and lit grounds complimented by a completely paved driveway (no gravel roads to get to the lodge), oversized sports court, and even an elevated 45' RV pad with full hook ups with its own great view of the lake and mountains over the cabin. The entire view behind the cabin is of the slopes and granite ridges of part of the Continental Divide shelf. To the front of the cabin is the lodge's private shoreline and combined with the upper wood deck the lodge has over 3000 sqft+ of outdoor living space. Free firewood is included for our guests. If you are wondering...the BIG snow capped peaks across the lake are the Sawtelle mountains but you can also see the Yellowstone and Teton ranges in the distance across the plains on the other side of the lake from our shoreline. No other neighborhoods in the Yellowstone area have a view of all these mountain ranges except ours. As they say, location-location-location.
At your request, when you rent Life of Riley Lodge we will go beyond what the competing luxury Yellowstone vacation rentals will do by offering a custom one on one concierge consultation and survey at the time of booking. Far away from any major city, enjoying the Yellowstone area beyond the typical crowded tourist experience requires advance planning and insider knowledge of what to plan, when and why. Born and raised near Yellowstone and seekers of the finer things in life ourselves, we at Life of Riley Lodge are uniquely positioned to help you create experiences that most Yellowstone visitors do not even know exist. No need to try and guess which restaurants are excellent..where the secret Yellowstone spots are... where to source proper equipment, gear and guides for your boutique adventure. From private chuck wagon and sleigh rides for the kids, to joining dinosaur digs for the family, to romantic helicopter tours with private chef for adults, let us help you arrange a perfect stress free vacation to the Yellowstone/Montana/Island Park area. About Sarah Thompson
Based in Oregon, we are Montana natives who bought lifeofrileylodge.com for use as our home in the winter and to share with our guests in the spring summer and fall. From our family to yours, we hope you enjoy the lodge as much as we do.
Sarah Thompson purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Sarah Thompson chose Island Park
Located between Yellowstone National Park, Big Sky Ski Resort, Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole...we knew the Island Park/West Yellowstone area sits at the nexus to them all. The Madison River. The Yellowstone River.Countless mountain waterfalls and lakes. With the world famous Henry's Fork of the Snake river and Henry's Lake literally at the doorstep of Life of Riley Lodge, we could not think of a more ideal location to enjoy the crown jewel of the american outdoors.
What makes this Cabin unique
*Closer to Yellowstone than any other luxury residence. You will be surprised how long it takes to ACTUALLY get to the park from most of the other luxury residences in the area and most are on gravel roads, we are not. *More king size beds and higher quality bedding than any of the competition. *Most area properties require you to wash your own linens, we are a luxury property and do not. *Air Conditioning. One of the VERY few properties with AC and it does get very hot up here especially in June-September. *Free trash pick up. We are one of the only area properties that do not make you take your own trash on your vacation to a strange landfill a 1/2 hour away. The little details make all the difference up here. *Private shoreline set between towering mountains on bucolic Henry's Lake - not the IP reservoir which is in a mostly flat valley frequented by the motorsports crowd. *Brand new high-end electronics, appliances, mattresses, and furniture. *Waterfront/beachfront, private fishing, and manicured grounds.

Wonderful home away from home with great access to Yellowstone!
Very comfortable for six adults, with a great bunk room for kids, though we didn't have any with us. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperative for using the outdoor facilities, but they looked just as pictured. We spent our days in the snow at Yellowstone, but enjoyed the kitchen and theater room in the evenings. We'd definitely rent again. -Karen S
good reunion spot
temendous view, well equipted kitchen, about 15 minutes from West gate of park. the dining table is way too big for it"s space, a minor inconvenience.
Thank you for review and we always value customer feedback. This is the only four star review we have ever received in the years we have operated on VRBO and we wish we could of done more to make your trip perfect! Your sole concern seemed to be the dining table was too big. Please accept our apology. The reason the dining table is as large as it is, is because we wanted to make sure our cabin had seating for all 13 guests that the cabin can sleep between the dining table and seating at the bar. We pride ourselves on our long consistent history of 5 star reviews and regret that our attempt to accommodate all guests at our property did not meet your particular needs. The table does have a removable leaf (by design) that would of helped alleviate your concern. That said, in efforts to remain the areas highest quality number one booked and best reviewed rental we are updating some furniture this fall since it has reached three years in age. Including the dining table. We are also installing a new fancy roof that will better insulate the house in the winter and allow the AC to operate more efficiently in the summer. Finally, a new and larger upper deck will be installed this spring. Thank you for your business and we hope to see you again at Life of Riley Lodge.
Excellent stay at Life of Riley Lodge - highly recommend for Yellowstone visits!
My husband and I arrived with our 3 children and our guide from Utah Luxury Tours. The accommodations were impeccable, with great views and a perfect space for our family and our guide. We met Sarah, the owner of the property. She is very friendly and great to work with. We will certainly recommend this property to our friends and family who are planning a trip to this area. Thank you Sarah for making us feel welcome!
You guys were awesome guests and we would be happy to accommodate you and anyone you suggest on a future rental. Thank you for your business and we hope to see you again in the future.
Fantastic stay at the Life of Riley Lodge
August 1-9, 2017
The Life of Riley lodge was perfect for our family of 11. It had all the comforts of home and magnificent views of the mountains and lake. It was the ideal location to visit Yellowstone and surrounding attractions. We certainly enjoyed our stay and found Sarah to be extremely informative and kind. We would certainly recommend Life of Riley to anyone that wants a true Yellowstone experience. We had 5 children and 3 adult couples. The bunk room for the kids and the 3 luxurious king beds could not have been better. The kitchen was well supplied and the 2 sets of washer and dryers were a blessing. The outdoor seating and grill locations were well thought out. It was amazing to wake up each morning and see the view of the mountains and Henry's Lake. There was a nice back yard for the kids to play, and both indoor and outdoor games that the children took advantage of. Thank you Sarah and Riley for contributing to our fantastic vacation. The Barker family (Palm City, FL)
Our pleasure and we could not agree more. You had a great group and two sets of washer and dryers on multiple floors is one of the conveniences many of our guests enjoy. Thank you for choosing us!
Fabulous family vacation spot!
The beautiful Life of Riley Lodge perfectly accommodated our extended family of 8 adults and 2 children. The pictures were a true representation of this gorgeous property! This spacious home allowed us the flexibility to spread out and/or gather together both indoors and outdoors. Our family enjoyed being right on Henry's Lake as well as the lovely views from so many parts of the property. The kitchen was well-stocked and the two sets of washers and dryers came in handy for our 4 family units. Everyone also appreciated the AC and the very comfortable beds after our active days. It was a short drive to the West entrance of Yellowstone National Park as well as other scenic attractions in the area. Our family especially enjoyed a day spent at Mesa Falls, Idaho. Sarah and Riley were always readily available to answer questions and offer advice. It was clear that they wanted to make sure that our stay was a comfortable, pleasant experience. Our family totally enjoyed our stay and would love to return some day. Thanks Sarah and Riley for making our family vacation a truly memorable experience!
The park IS amazing but we always wonder why more people dont take our suggestions to go and see the attractions just outside the park like Mesa Falls as well. Our favorite thing about the lodge is unlike most lodgings in the area the cabin still seems like you are IN the park! We are glad you went the extra mile to see it all!
Such a special home!!!
The Life of Riley did not disappoint!
After a long day exploring Yellowstone or surrounding areas, we were always excited to come back to the house! From relaxing on the upper deck, making s'mores by the outdoor fire pit, playing frisbee golf on the lawn.... our time at the house was wonderful!
Thank you Sarah for your attention to detail and providing great information! The view of the lake was spectacular!
We loved every moment and did not want to leave!
Hope to visit again one day!
And we would love to have you back. Thank you for your kind words, it means the world to us that our guests enjoy the lodge to the fullest extent.
