About Suzanne Haupt
Hi, I’m Suzie Haupt. I have dreamt of living in a log cabin since 1956 when my family vacationed in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. Then, in 1959 when we rented our cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack, my new dream became to live in a log cabin on a lake!
Suzanne Haupt purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Suzanne Haupt chose Lake Lure
I moved to the coast of North Carolina in 1991 and found that I very much missed the mountains and fresh water swimming. Thus began my search for the perfect lake to retire to. In 2005 I discovered Mirror Lake and fell in love with it. The exquisite views and mild water temperatures from May through October offer me more pleasure than I ever dreamed of. Until I am able to retire and move permanently into “WHATAVIEW” I’d like to share my dream with you. You won’t be disappointed! Please call if you have any questions.
What makes this Cabin unique
This part of western North Carolina is simply pristine; it is so beautiful that just sitting on the deck watching the changing light on the lake and the clouds seems in itself a past-time. The majesty of the mountains and waterfalls in the area around Lake Lure are so picturesque that they appear to be torn from the pages of National Geographic. From shopping and fine dining to golf and fishing, there is something for everyone here... oh, except for folks who like traffic noise, we don't have any of that.

Very Nice Cabin
The cabin is very nice.. The back porch is a great place to relax and have dinner, as is the screened porch. The view of the mountains is just beautiful. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us plus our dog. There is a nice [but a bit steep drive way to the front door which is nice for loading and unloading, and a nice car port next to the cabin.
The only thing a visitor should be aware of which caught me a bit by surprise is the access [after the entry gate] is by a dirt road. The road is in very good condition and very well maintained. I have an SUV and was pulling a trailer so it was a bit tricky. However the cabin is at the end of the road so getting turned around to go out is EZ.
What a fun stay!
This cabin was perfect for our family vacation. The intent of our trip was to work on our lot in Rutherfordton. The location was perfect as we are minutes down the road.
This cabin was clean/ comfortable and was in close proximity to the lake for our son to swim and go tubing.
During our stay there were quiet a few storms in the afternoon and one left a tree across the road (unpassable). The owner was very responsive and quickly notified someone remove the tree.
We will stay again! Thank you Suzie :)
Had a nice time there, but left with disappointment.
We had a wonderful time at Suzie’s Cabin even though it was a bit dusty, and the WiFi was nonexistent. About 2 hours after we left, I got an email saying Suzie has claimed our security deposit. Confused and befuddled to why this happened, because we treat this cabin like our home while we were staying there, cleaned up everything before we left, even bought our own paper towels and garbage bags because there was only 1 garbage bag and no paper towels in the entire house for us to clean with. I called Suzie only to find out that we lost our deposit because the pots we used to cook with was blackened and covered in food. After I assured Suzie that the pots and pants were blackened because of previous usage (not from us) and with normal wear for pots and pants, and we definitely clean it as best as we could and left everything exactly how we found it. She tried to stand by her reason by saying we should have soaked it in peroxide or Ajax overnight and scrub it until it is spotless. I told her, it was not part of the check out instruction that we had to and there was no peroxide or baking soda, the only thing we had in the house is a used dish sponge. I told her that if she didn’t want us to use her pots, she could have mentioned it in our previous conversations, we would be more than happy to bring our own. She was not satisfied with my answers, saying that her floor was sticky and her windows were sticky. I reminded her that we paid a cleaning fee on top of our rental fee for this reason and that we did not left anything sticky, but if that’s what she claims, this is NOT a reason for her to take the damage deposit. Again trying to grasp at straws, she claimed we checked out over an hour late. No, we did not. We were tidying up the house before we left as best as we could, without a vacuum, a mob, and not even windex. And we pull out of the drive way 30 mins passed 10am. I told her if she wants to pull a fast one and take our damage deposit, please don’t try to belittle us. Either that or she wanted us to spend the week there mobbing her house and wiping her windows. I am so disappointed of Suzie’s business ethic as a house rental manager and how she tried to take more money from us after we paid in full for 7 nights rental which included a cleaning fee.
If you’re planning to stay here, please make sure you take a video of the house before and after your stay because it seems like Suzie will try to find any excuse to take your money.
This security deposit was withheld due to late check out and the amount of work that had to be done following the check out. A second cleaner had to be brought in to prepare the house for the 4 PM arrival. In addition it was discovered that the renters had drained their dishes over a seam on the kitchen counter rather than in the sink where the drainer is placed. The pooling water caused the seam of the counter to delaminate. The only Repair for this defect is countertop replacement which will cost over $3000.
Great vacation spot!!! House was right near the beach and lake and great views from the decks.
Cozy home with lots to do
The cabin was a great get away for our family. I wanted a place that we could all hang out and do things. There are 3 levels so we all had our own space to relax. We have a 16 y/o, 11 y/o and 9 y/o. The view is beautiful but the trees were obscuring the lake more than I expected but still beautiful. The house is situated so nice and close to the lake and a pavilion with bathrooms, which provided activities outside the home. She has pretty much everything you would need to entertain yourself; including inner tubes, canoes, fishing pole, grill, and fire pit. We took the inner tubes on the river by the lake. Find the trail across the street from the lake and there will be an opening where you can get into the river and float down. There are no huge drops or dangers. You can get out right near the entrance of the gate for a 15 minutes float ride or go for 2 plus hours all the way to the campground (need to arrange pick up back to cabin). Suzie was very responsive and key fobs to get into gate were very helpful, don't forget them after 4pm.
Cons: The cabin appeared a bit bigger in pictures but it was fine. The lighting of the cabin overall is very dark in certain areas. I wish there was more lighting in main living room, kitchen and upper bedroom. I think adding lights to the ceiling fans would enhance the lighting instead of multiple lamps with switches to turn on and off. The WiFi was non existent for us. This was a little frustrating since it was advertised we would have it but our cellular service worked well so we were able to do research and make reservations that way. Make sure to purchase toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags. We had to make two extra trips because we assumed those items would be included and didn't realize it until we needed it. This will save you extra trips.
Overall, we had such a great time and the cabin was so much fun! The lake was super beautiful and cabin was close to a lot of fun activities!
The cabin was overall nice and pretty well furnished. The view of the lake from the porch was really nice! Very few negatives, but they were significant. Advertising that you have WIFI means you have WIFI. The cabin is on a limited plan, meaning an "X" amount of data available per month. There was still over a week left in the data cycle and we had little to zero internet feed. We were in the mountains for a break, but do like streaming movies at night when it is dark. Also like streaming sports at night (basic cable did not even have ESPN). Additionally, the cabin was not very clean upon arrival. The kitchen table was covered in crumbs and dust and there were several (at least 4) old animal toys that we found under the furniture, which had not been cleaned in quite some time. Had a good time in the Lake Lure area, but will stay elsewhere on our next visit.
