About Claudia Pietrini

We transferred from a big city 20 years ago to experience a different life and we like to share with our guest the beauty of Tuscany and its countryside : we never regretted it.

We have joined forces with a local organisation which cares for partially disabled young people, mainly affected by Down's Syndrome, in a venture which will enable these young people to help in the daily work of the Molino. This will give them the opportunity to experience not only the the rural activities of a small estate, but also of helping to look after guests in the apartments. Activities will be jointly planned and supervised, and all rental income from the guests will be wholly used to support and further the work of the association..

Claudia Pietrini purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Claudia Pietrini chose Terranuova Bracciolini

A guest review : Visiting Molino le Gualchiere in September was absolutely amazing. The grapes were ripe as were the figs, plums and apples. The farm is quaint and the apartment is lovely accommodation.

Loro Ciufenna is a beautiful old town which was having its annual festival while we were there. Some of the best pasta you will eat is in Loro Ciufenna ........

What makes this farmhouse unique

The apartments are attractive, country Tuscan and extremely comfortable. The environment is easy, relaxing and beautiful beyond description.

Charming Tuscan Farmhouse

  • 4 of 5

My 12-year old daughter and I stayed at La Padronale, one of about 5 apartments at Molino le Gualchiere, a farm near Arezzo, for a week with my sister and her family. Our unit was in the upstairs of what I assume is the old farmhouse. There are 3 very spacious bedrooms, 1 with a king bed, 1 with a queen bed and 1 with two twin beds. The king room had a private bathroom. There is another full bathroom near the twin room, and the queen room had a sink and small shower (but oddly no toilet). The kitchen is spacious and we found that it was well equipped after exploring all the cabinets. There is a gas range and a dishwasher, as well as the original stone sink and a small modern sink. The only drawbacks in the kitchen were poor lighting and not enough glasses for anything but wine. The living and dining area was spacious and comfortable; there were two large sofas in the living room. All the floors are tiled. The unit was very clean when we arrived, but there is no daily servicing. There is no air conditioning, but the heavy shutters and thick stone walls kept the house cool during the heat of the day, and we could let the cool evening breeze into the house with screened windows and the large door at the terrace. We spent most of our time on the terrace, where there was a seating area with wood chairs and a dining table and chairs, both in the shade. The property has a nice pool that was very clean and is shared by all the guests. There are laundry facilities available to guests. The property manager, Claudia, is there every morning and to greet newly arriving guests. She was very helpful and made restaurant reservations for us, as well as providing information about the area, such as where to catch the train into Florence (a 37m ride on the express service). The complex is in the river valley outside Loro Ciuffenna, down a long windy one-lane driveway. Loro Ciuffenna is a small town spanning a gorge over the river with a few good restaurants and little shops selling food, wine, bread, gelato, etc. There is a market in the old part of town on Monday mornings. The new part of town has a small supermarket, gas stations, etc. This is a great location for exploring Tuscany, being only 15 min off the Autostrada between Arezzo and Florence; Chianti is about 20 minutes away, Siena is an hour drive, and Florence is a quick train ride. We really enjoyed our stay at La Padronale and would recommend it for an authentic Tuscan country experience.

Loro Ciuffenna is the closest village .

This is a lovely medieval village with an amazing view on the river Ciuffenna. Here you will not find souvenirs for tourists but traditional family run shops, a colourful weekly market, traditional Italian coffee shops, ice-cream shops and a selection of very good restaurants ( 2 of them recommended by Michelin Guide), “osterie” ( one of them recommended by Slow Food Guide) and “pizzerie”, of course.

Definitely a little town where you can breath an old times Tuscan atmosphere.

Loro Ciuffenna could be a great starting point for a variety of excursions and activities such as:

• Sightseeing on Pratomagno mountains

Driving for 15-25 minutes you can reach unique hidden villages on the slopes of Pratomagno mountains.

All of them have a spectacular view on the Arno Valley ( Rocca Ricciarda and La Trappola are at 950 m. above the sea level)

Centuries of history, beautiful forests, old mills, silence and…. good food!

In Chiassaia, an old village of 50 permanent inhabitants, Varis, the baker, makes a local flat bread called “schiacciata” with no chemicals ingredients baked in a wood oven.

There you can enjoy a very good brunch with salty and sweet delicacies feeling you jumped back in time of at least 50 years…

In Gorgiti, known for its delicious chestnut flour, you can learn the history of chestnut by the words of local inhabitants and visit a special building called “seccatoio”.

Of course this area is perfect to organize trekking and mountain bikes tours and we can offer tailored itineraries with professional local guides.

This is the land of wild boars, hares, deer, hedge hogs, badgers and foxes, to say nothing about the birds!

We can also organize trout fishing all along the wild Ciuffenna river whose waters are so pure that it is still possible to see crayfishes.

• Sightseeing all along the Chianti hills and the Arno Valley

Molino delle Gualchiere is located along one of the Wine Roads of Tuscany, an ancient Etruscan road that was connecting Fiesole to Arezzo called “Strada dei Setteponti”;

all along this panoramic country road there are farms producing very good wines ( some of them recommended by Wine Spectator ) and wine tasting tours there are interesting and amusing.

Most of the farms are situated next to medieval hamlets worth visiting,

like Il Borro, property of Ferragamo’s family and beautiful Gropina with its

Romanesque Parish church declared world heritage site.

The Chianti Classico, with its widely known wine producers, can also be an alternative wine tasting destination.

In this area it is very easy to combine the wine tour with a visit to historical castles and villas.

To quote few names: Meleto Castle, a medieval castle perfectly preserved, Brolio Castle with its

gardens, from where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sight over a traditional Tuscan

landscape, Badia a Coltibuono a fascinating ancient Abbey, Volpaia nested on top of a hill.

Pls. take note that all sites listed above are easily reachable from Molino Gualchiere in 15/ 40 minutes driving.

The Arno Valley in the nearby of Molino delle Gualchiere offers a spectacular view over a unique landscape. Cliffs called “balze” with pinnacles and spires

created during the centuries, a fabulous scenery that you can see behind the portrait of Monnalisa and in other drawings and painting of Leonardo da Vinci. There are quite a number of paths to follow even walking directly from Molino Gualchiere. We organize guided excursions according with the

specific demand of our guests.

• City of Arts

Florence is easily reachable by car or by train ( the closest railway station is at 10 km.)

Siena and San Gimignano can be reached by car trough the “castles road”, a unique itinerary.

Arezzo and Cortona could be visited in a day trip.

Every first week-end of the month in Arezzo there is an Antiques Fair “Fiera Antiquaria”, known throughout Italy and Europe either as a traditional appointment for antiques dealers and collectors as for the beauty of the places where it is held. In fact the Fair develops in the medieval centre of Arezzo, surrounded by historical buildings and work of arts.

Worth a visit also the medieval towns of Anghiari and Sansepolcro

We can previously book the tickets for museums or exhibitions in all the above mentioned towns and we organize half a day or full day guided tour.
