Beautiful Mountain Villa with Panoramic Ocean View from the Mountains on the outskirts of Bayamon - 30 minutes from San Juan and a 40 minute drive from the San Juan International Airport. Pricing is based on amount of guests, there is a maximum occupancy of 6 guests. Watch the cruise ships arrive and depart from San Juan Bay from our oversized terrace! If you want to experience nature, beauty and the clean comfort of home this is the place for you and your family. If you would like, someone will be able to pick you up (and your family/friends, if that's the case) at the airport, drive you to the car rental and then guide you to La Finquita (The Small Farm).
This was our home for many years so there is a lot of love and passion in it. This is why we named it 'La Finquita' which for us means a miniature copy of the farm we had in Cuba. It was our dream come true! There is a vast amount of different species of bromeliads, orchids, and exotic tropical flowers covering the grounds which we planted throughout the years. There are also lots of other types of gorgeous flowers and fruit trees like Papayas which you can pick from the terrace. You will also be able to pick the Panapen fruit, Coconuts and different species of Plantains (cooking bananas) and Banana fruit trees.
You will be able to enjoy amazing views of the ocean, the city of San Juan and the mountains including 'El Yunque.' You will also have the wonderful sounds of the 'Coquis' at night and roosters in the morning. Awesome sunsets and sunrises, and if you happen to be there during a full moon it seems so close that you will want to reach for it. At nighttime we would sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and enjoy the view. It is like watching an enormous Christmas tree before us all year round. When it rains, it feels like you are in a Rain Forest with the clouds sometimes passing over the house so close that you can almost touch them. In a few words, it is impossible to describe the beauty, the peace and quiet you will enjoy during your stay at La Finquita. The night view is far more amazing when the sun sets and you are surrounded by the array of town lights and the appeasing music of the Coquis.
The weather and the breeze is always pleasant. Although there is air conditioning all through the house, it is rarely needed. Even during the summer months, we only used it at night sometimes. The house has security iron bar windows so you can enjoy the breeze around the entire house all day long.
I am originally from Cuba, I currently live in Miami,FL and I love traveling particularly to Europe and to La Finquita in Puerto Rico.
Mireya Villaverde purchased this house in 2009
What a wonderful experience staying at La Finquita! The home is a little slice of paradise up in the mountains. The best part is the large wrap around patio with views of sea during the daytime, and beautiful city lights at night. It continues another 90 degrees with views of the mountains. There was lots of space outside to enjoy our home cooked meals on the dining table as well as relax in the lounge chairs during all hours of the day. Lots of flowers and plants in the secured compound made it feel like a private resort. The kitchen was the perfect size and well stocked with plates and appliances. Having a washer/dryer onsite was a great convenience. The location is somewhat remote, yet still accessible via a 45min to 1 hour drive into Old San Juan/Airport/El Yunque rain forest. Lots of cameras outside the home as well as a locked gate for security.
Suggestions for anyone considering the property:
-Rent a car: this goes for Puerto Rico in general, but for La Finquita specifically, you will definitely want your own transportation
-Mountain driving: The first few times may feel a little nerve wracking, but it's perfectly safe. Try to get back before dark until you are more familiar with the area. Waze and Google Maps are your friend.
-Spend lots of time at the property: if you just need a place to stay for the night and will be out and about all day, you won't fully get to enjoy it. Allocate a few days to just relax and do nothing!
-Get all your groceries before you arrive to avoid wasted time and multiple trips. Take advantage of the meeting point with Pablo to get whatever you need.
-If you have small children, be careful with the steps. All bedrooms are downstairs, and the main living areas are upstairs.
All in all, we have a wonderful stay and look forward to returning with family in the future!
Absolutely amazing view! Over see the whole island! Honestly all you need is groceries and stay on the mountain topfor a whole week!
I am not very good at reviews but here we go. We absolutely love this property. House is beautiful and well maintained. Very spacious. The surroundings make you feel like you are in the middle of the rain forrest. Both owner and the property care taker are easily available in case you have any problem. I will absolutely go again. My only advice is make arrangements so Pablo can escort you to the property the first time you go there. I spent the first 27 years of my life in town and I couldn't find the property without help( I was 2 minutes away but couldn't ). The view from the house is unbelievable!! It's a little piece of paradise!!! Pablo, the caretaker, never says no. He is great. Thank you Pablo!
The property is beautiful. The view is magnificent. You will definitely need Pablo to get you to the house the first time.Mireya was very helpful with planning our trip. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit San Juan. Mireya, thank you so much for your hospitality.
Our first impression was to be awestruck by the amazing view of the lights of Bayamon and Guaynabo below (and in the daytime, all the way to the ocean beyond) - all beheld from our own castle-like fortress at the top of the mountain. And this was after an amazing nighttime drive up very winding one lane roads, and added to the cultural wonder of our first trip to Puerto Rico. We chose this property rather than hotels because we wanted to spend time all together under one roof. There is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy -- from sipping coffee on the patio enjoying the breathtaking view below, to playing cards to gathering for meals (and a lovely customized gazebo for bbqs). You definitely need Pablo, the wonderful caretaker to escort you up the mountain - no gps would have found it - but sooo worth it.
Pros - Mireya has thought of everything in the home for cooking needs indoors and out (BBQ). Loved the nightime noise of the coquis (PR's tiny frogs) and were delighted to have some right outside the sliding door chirping from planters; even little green iguanas that visited each day and a few larger lizards were spotted among the dozens of plantings - from coconut palms to birds of paradise. It was hard to take it all in, in just a week and fit in touristy destinations as well. One of my personal highlights was going to pick people up at the airport in the wee small hours and encountering a goat just sitting and eating in the middle of the road!
Cons - traveling the winding roads was a struggle for those who are affected by travel sickness/nausea; no oven (but Mireya compensated us for the lasagna we bought at Costco and couldn't cook; she also suggested BBQing outdoors); beds were small for some of our taller guys, but she provided a large inflatable mattress as an alternative; one the rooms is located on the property, under the garage and is in essence a separate apartment.
Best of all, if you have needs, direct them to Pablo or Mireya and they will resolve them - very responsive and positive. You can tell they wanted us to love La Finquita and with their help, we totally did and will again!
Tips - Do visit a local BBQ place on your way up the mountain and bring home some chicken and ribs and sides to enjoy local flavor.
There is no wifi at the house, but since I needed to communicate with work - Pablo/Mireya set me up with Isla Bella on the way and they shared wifi password with me. I enjoy their wonderful coffee, pastries, and sandwiches.
Our stay at La Finquinta was quite pleasant and relaxing. The sound of nature calling, during the evening hours, was so relaxing. The views were astounding. The home is literally at the top of the mountain. The only freaky thing was getting used to the narrow roads, which one would think were single one lane roads, but they have two way traffic. Took a while to become accustomed to it, but by mid-stay we were pros! Getting around on the island, from here, was a cinch! My son had Waze app on his phone and it was a piece of cake to find our way around everywhere. There is so much to do and see on the entire island, and all within about a 2 hour drive. We did find a few things about the home…being on the mountain, ants were constant in the kitchen, so we had to keep everything in the refrigerator, even after we sprayed. There is no baking oven in the kitchen, only microwave and toaster style ovens. There are gas and electric cooktops, but only the electric works (no tank for gas). The kitchen is moderately equipped. There are two washing machines, but only one worked properly. We did have a plumbing problem in the master, during our last couple of days, so we just used the other bathroom (2 out of 3 were working upon our arrival). The air conditioners were very handy to have, and all but one worked like a charm. Even with the lack of one, the home was kept at a pleasant comfort level. Despite these few minor problems, we highly recommend staying here. The view alone is worth it, in every way possible!!
We ate out for all but breakfast, and brought pizza in a couple of nights. Since pretty much everything on the island...but bars, clubs and restaurants close at 6pm...we had to make sure we had our food before we drove to the house. The pizza place called Faccio Pizza, and the Puerto Rican food at Casa Mofongo, (both located around the Rexville Town Center) were fabulous!!!! Highly recommend eating at both locations. With no DVD player, cable or satellite to watch, no real entertainment at night. We bought some cards and dominoes to keep ourselves entertained after we got to the house. All in all, it really was a great stay and we enjoyed every moment we were here!
There is a lady with a horse farm who will allow you to see, rent and ride the horses.
