West Tisbury Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Bright, airy studio in serene, natural setting, easy walk to beach & ponds

Traveling on a budget but looking for a private, pristine property in a natural setting? Appreciate walking to the ocean at one of the most beautiful sand beaches you'll ever find? Bright, airy, and secluded, our property is a contemporary open floor space w/ high ceilings, lots of windows, tasteful decor, an outdoor hot-water shower, and small deck overlooking 2 acres of woods. For your convenience, we have reserved round-trip ferry tickets for your vehicle as well.

You'll easily walk to exclusive Lambert's Cove Beach-described by NY Times as a world-class swimming spot with 'perfect water' for those looking for summer 'magic'. [The Magic of Swimming on Martha's Vineyard, Travel, New York Times, August 10, 2014].

Our hideaway offers an ideal location--secluded and private yet minutes away from the ocean, ponds, and all the other “good stuff” you'd expect from a Vineyard get-away.

You can not only walk to the ocean and pond, but also to gourmet dining @ Lambert's Cove Inn.

Also near our property: upscale State Road restaurant, bakeries, farmer's market/farm stands, casual eats, artisan fairs, art galleries, an arboretum, nature preserves and hiking trails, live theater, & a state- of- the- art movie center where directors are frequent hosts to new films.

Thanks to our central Island location, getting around the Island could not be easier. We are even on a bus route that takes bicycles!

About Alice

My husband and I discovered the Vineyard, first as college student day-trippers, then for years as seasonal renters. We rented a house in a different part of the Island every summer and, while each had its unique charm, we simply fell in love with the natural beauty, quiet pace, and timeless feel of West Tisbury where we have since summered for the past 30 years.

We looked a long time before we found the perfect site on which to build--2 wooded acres on a small country road where we could be afforded complete quiet and privacy yet be just minutes away from everything.

As hands-on owners who use this property ourselves, we take meticulous care of both the interior and the grounds. I think you'll find from reading our reviews that the attention and care we devote to ensuring that our guests have a good experience is much appreciated. We take great pride in sharing the Island, and especially the timeless charm of West Tisbury with all our guests.

Alice purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Alice chose Martha's Vineyard

Because you can walk to the beach! Because you can be nude on your secluded deck! Because you'll be minutes from all the Island has to offer but tucked away in an area that is off-the-beaten path, free from tourists and commerce.

Our location is rare--it's centrally located on the Island yet very secluded in the wooded agricultural center of the Island. On even the busiest day of the summer, eg July 4, you will be far away from the tourists and the traffic yet minutes away from fine dining, galleries, art festivals, farmer's markets, conservation areas, and hiking/biking trails.

Our studio is in a detached building on 2 acres, with its own separate driveway and hot, built for 2, outdoor shower. If you're like me, you'll love the absolute quiet and privacy of the setting. There are no other renters who will share the space.

The interior has high ceilings & lots of windows with natural light all day long. Yet, trees keep the space quite cool and comfortable. This is not one of those mildewy, dank summer properties. We take great care in decorating and keeping everything fresh and bright.

Though we own a separate house set a distance away on the same land, we use a separate, hidden driveway, and there is no line of sight from your deck to ours. As hands-on-owners, we'll be available if it's helpful but otherwise try to stay out of sight and give you the secluded get-away you deserve.

What makes this cottage unique

The best part about our property, for us and for our guests, has been that we can ditch our car (yay!)and easily walk to Lambert's Cove Beach & Seth's Pond.. Often we go back and forth to the beach a few times a day, always ending the day with wine at sunset. It feels so freeing to walk or bike to the ocean in minutes and arrive at a beach that is glorious not just for its beauty but also for its serenity. No packed, noisy crowds here. Not ever.

A truly terrific place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, teenage son and I spent a week in this clean, comfortable, and well-furnished studio in West Tisbury. There is a small deck off the kitchen that catches a nice breeze from the nearby trees. From this deck we saw deer and wild turkey one morning!

The property is in a perfect location; there are many pretty places close by. First, Lambert's Cove is a gorgeous sandy swimming beach and you can walk to it in 15 minutes. There is also nearby Ice House

Pond , which you can walk to through a lovely winding road in the woods. This pond is magical. The water is silky soft and it is surrounded by pine trees, with blue skies with fluffy clouds above. Uncle Seth's Pond is just up the road, too, and just off the road, so you park your car and jump in!

We can't speak for the restaurants, because my husband grilled every night, including meats from the Stop and Shop, and jumbo shrimp from Larsen's .

Finally, the owners Alice and Ken are kind and gracious hosts; they will help you with anything you need,

Lovely, airy studio

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect. My extended family was staying in a big place but I wanted an oasis of my own. The queen bed was super comfortable, everything was clean and airy, and Alice was very helpful. Friends came over one evening and we grilled and sat outside; other days I read in the hammock, walked to pond and/or beach, biked around the tucked-away-in-the-woods "neighborhood." A great option for a single or couple!

Affordable, peaceful, lovely retreat

  • 5 of 5

As a newly divorced single woman, I was wary about traveling alone to a place I'd never been. But I am so glad I took the leap of faith. The studio is a contemporary space, with a sunny and lovely interior in a tranquil, private location away from summer commotion. I wanted an escape, with access to the ocean and the solitude to meditate. What a joy to wake up to the birds singing and the distant sound of a rooster crowing. Even better, It's just a short walk to the ocean and a gorgeous beach. I appreciated that Alice and Ken, the owners, were available but not intrusive. As a single woman traveling alone, I felt safe and secure. If you're looking for a peaceful place to recharge and commune with nature at an affordable price, I can't recommend it more highly.

Peaceful Up-Island Hideaway and Gracious Hosts

  • 5 of 5

After a five-year absence from the Vineyard I planned a week in July and am so glad to have selected this wonderfully peaceful getaway for my weeks' escape from reality.

The studio cottage was just perfect for me as a solo traveler and would no doubt work well for a slightly larger group. The cottage was clean and comfortable and offered that understated class that typifies West Tisbury and the Up-Island communities.

While the cottage is on the grounds of the hosts home, they are more than gracious in their welcome and then allowed me solitude for a week. From the time we first connected online, they had one goal, that being my enjoyment of the Island. As a long-time visitor I knew many of their suggestions, but for a newcomer to the Island, and especially to Up-Island, the hosts are a virtual website of suggestions for a great visit.

And did I mention that this getaway offers the chance to get a coveted Lambert's Cove Beach sticker? That purple pass (this year) is a ticket to the most amazing beach on the Island - and that is being said by a former Lucy Vincent Beach fan.

Having rented elsewhere in the past and stayed in a few Up-Island inns, this peaceful hideaway hits it spot on. Put it at the top of your list when visiting West Tisbury.

Perfect location for any island activity!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed for a full week and enjoyed our best vacation yet. It was our first true vacation to the island and the location was perfect for all of our activities. We saw every square inch of the island and it was all reasonable drives, walks or bike rides from the suite. Access to Lambert's Cove is well worth the price of admission as it's perhaps the most serene, clean and perfect beach on the island. The property, itself, was very clean, exactly as advertised and the perfect fit for my wife, 5-year-old daughter and myself. If you go (or are interested in booking :)) make sure to take full advantage of the Lambert's Cove sunset. It's breathtaking!

Beautiful Studio Near Gorgeous Beach

  • 5 of 5

My 14-year old daughter and I came to Martha's Vineyard for a girls' trip, and we fell absolutely in love with this rental. It is bright and sunny and set on a wooded lot. In the morning, you can sit out on the deck and listen to the birds chirping while sipping your morning coffee. The rental itself is a sunny studio apartment with all the comforts of home. The kitchenette has an electric burner, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot and full-size refrigerator. We ate breakfast in every day on the deck or down by the hammock where a nice set of chairs and a table are laid out. There is also a bathroom with a shower and tub, although we chose to use the wonderful outdoor shower which was equipped with hot and cold running water and felt like a spa experience. The rental is within walking distance of Lambert's Cove Beach as well as Old House Pond. Both of these are great places to swim with calm, clear water. The location is also ideal - only a ten minute drive from Vineyard Haven and 20 minutes from Oak Bluff where there are lots of restaurants and shopping opportunities. Finally, the owners are really very interested in ensuring their guests have a great stay on the island and provided lots of great advice on places to eat and things to do. It was an idyllic experience, an incredible value for the price, and we hope to be able to return again soon.
