About Ginger Howard

We live in Jackson WY and bought this house for our Cincinnati visits a few times a year. My husband worked in commercial real estate for Jones Lang LaSalle and is now retired. I taught Montessori pre-school and grades 1-4 in public schools. We have two grown children in the San Francisco Bay area.

Ginger Howard purchased this house in 2013

Why Ginger Howard chose Cincinnati

I lived in Hyde Park while attending college. It's a great walking community - cute houses, lots of coffee shops and restaurants, and close to all the best in Cincinnati. It's a great location for exploring the city: Eden Park, Over the Rhine, Ault Park, Downtown and Covington KY.

What makes this house unique

The house has tall ceilings and a large kitchen with island and double doors to the outside. Love the front porch and garden in front, and the large yard in back. Lots of beds so you'll have flexibility with who sleeps where. But the best benefit is the location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Cannot think of any improvements. You even catered for children from 2 months old, onwards. You even had zipper bags and anti snow salt.

What an equiped kitchen!! Your cleaners left your house AS NEW.

Perfection. Never let them go. Best, Ron

April 22-25, 2016

Wonderful and comfortable home. Although there was room for more people, five of us stayed here for a wedding (Ault Park) weekend. Clean and extremely accommodating as far as supplying many small items to make life easier for a quick weekend....paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, bandaids, cleaning was well stocked with dishes, glassware, spices, oil, pots/pans, and various appliances. Beautiful deck and front porch. Plenty of towels/dishtowels.

Two living areas...couches and chairs - very comfy. Parked all three vehicles in the driveway - no problem.

Walked to Nordstrom Rack (Home Goods, TJ Maxx, etc...just .3 miles away) as we needed a few things for the wedding. Cousins walked downtown to Graeter Ice Cream store...but many coffee shops, restaurants well within an easy walk.

Saturday night at Mad Tree Brewery for pizza and beer. Ault Park an easy drive and quite lovely.

We have rented vrbos throughout the country and while this is an older home, it was very suitable to our needs...very charming! Easy access to major highways also. My brother lives in Anderson Township - so also very close to him.

Took out ironing board one day to press dress shirts for wedding and it collapsed...called Ginger and within an hour, she was there with two brand new ironing boards, irons and iron board nice!!!

While there are 1.5 baths, the five adults managed fine with the one shower/bath. Always hot water!

Great location and very comfortable!!!

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Rented the house for my parents to stay at for the weekend while they were visiting. Location is great as it is close to Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, and Oakley. Also, easy access to downtown or to suburbs.

The house itself is great and very comfortable. Plenty of room to lounge around, hang on the back deck, or eat in the kitchen.

I will be utilizing the house again the next time my parents come into town.

Nice and Clean!! Highly Recommend :-)

  • 4 of 5

The home was very nice and very clean!! The location and size of the house was perfect to accommodate our family. Booking and getting access to the home was extremely easy and quick since we had to book the home last minute due to the death and funeral of my grandmother. Ginger is extremely responsive and gives clear instructions prior to check-in and check-out. This was our first experience renting a home to stay in when we travel and staying at Ginger's home has made us want to use HomeAway in the future when we travel!!! The house anything and everything you would have in your own home (even board games and books)!! Ginger refunded the security deposit literally a few days after we checked-out which was way faster than expected.

The only two negative pieces of feedback are:

1. The 130.00 up charge for 5 family members that were traveling to Cincinnati for the funeral that were going to stay in the house for a night (which also included my 6 year niece as only 6 month old babies can stay for free).

2. The check-out time which is at 11 am but our flight was not until 7 pm so I asked if we could check-out at 3 pm but Ginger advised that we would have to pay for another day to stay in the home for an extra 4 hours (which is completely unreasonable in my opinion).

But the positives far outweighed the negatives so i highly recommend this house and Ginger!!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and so glad we could accommodate your group on short notice. I know 4 hours doesn't seem like much, but our wonderful housekeeping staff is only available from 11 to 4. When possible, we do accommodate late check out and early check in - sometimes the house is clean early, or won't be cleaned until the following day. But the house is popular, and often booked for every night, and we value the time and schedule of our amazing house keepers - so late departure was not possible on your stay. Thanks for the kind words... Ginger

Another Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is my third time renting from Ginger, the first couple times I rented the lovely Dutch house next door to this beautiful Victorian. I come into town about 3x per year to visit my mother who has to now reside in a nursing facility, so finding a "homey" place to stay is important to me. Every time staying in Ginger's properties has been a comforting experience. The Victorian was perfect, lots of room, stocked full of all the amenities you would need with extra little things thrown in, like little votive candles for ambiance (which came in handy as I had some friends and family over one night). The kitchen just blew me away. Very large space with a middle island to gather around, a large window overlooking a nice backyard area, and a huge table to sit and enjoy a meal. And I loved the twinkle lights that were placed around the window in the kitchen!...its the small touches like this that make all the difference. The bathrooms were nice and spacious, and in true victorian style, there are two floors of bedrooms--3 floors altogether! As well as a basement with a double set of washer and dryers, which really came in handy for my extended stay. And don't get me started on the area...Hyde Park is one of my favorite Cincinnati neighborhoods, and the house is a walking distance to the square, with lots of shops and restaurants..including the world famous (and original location) Graters ice cream! So once again, Ginger hit it out of the park. We really feel like these two homes (the Dutch and the Victorian )are our home away from home when we come into Cincinnati.

Hyde Park Square is one block away. Beautiful fountain surrounded by benches, and coffee shops, ice cream parlor, lots of restaurants, and shops. Also walk to Buskens Bakery and more shops at Rookwood Commons. Short drive to Eden Park and Ault Park, and the new restaurant area in Over the Rhine. Try Zip's for burgers close by and Arnold's downtown for a casual historic lunch.

Charming older Folk Victorian with big porch and deck under tall trees. The house has been lightly renovated and a large kitchen has been added. Great house for getting together with friends and family, inside and out.
