Walk to the beach, marina, restaurants and shops from this fully equipped luxury home. Four bedrooms - a first floor master with a king size bed, two with a queen size bed and the fourth with two twin beds allows for eight to sleep comfortably. Two bedrooms open on to covered balconies. You'll love sitting in the rockers on the covered porch and watching our spectacular sunsets across the bay. The third floor tower room affords sweeping views of the Bay Creek Marina, the western sky over the bay and, for the early risers, spectacular sunrises. A gourmet kitchen, 5 TV's, charcoal grill and beach chairs and bikes allow you to fully enjoy this terrific location.
Our family has been coming to the ESVA for vacation for over 20 + years. We stay a different place each summer and were very impressed with Mermaid Cottage. It was nicely tucked away in the cul de sac; quiet, relaxing and overall a great time. The kitchen was stocked with mostly every utensil and cooking supply you needed. It fit us all comfortably - the only thing I'd say is the house is a little worn and lived in but I wouldn't say I wouldn't come back again because of that. Overall, a nice place to stay.
Mermaid's Cottage is a very good place to stay in the Bay Creek Community in Cape Charles. The location is fantastic. We used the provided bikes to ride to the wonderful public beach, to town for ice cream, and over to the Oyster Farm restaurant for dinner and lunch. (The Oysters are THAT good.) The layout of the house was ideal for our family with Mom and Dad, an adult child, adult children with grandbaby, and 12 year old son. Everyone had their own space. Dad even had to do some work while he was there and was able to set up the "Tower Room" as his office. So, the space accommodated us well. We appreciated the beach chairs, abundant towels and kitchen supplies. We REALLY appreciated working with the Rental Company who was more than willing to allow us to check in several hours before check-in when we arrived early to avoid beach traffic. It was like a free extra day and we were so grateful! The reason I only give the property four stars instead of five is that it does not have "Breathtaking Bay Views." It kind of/sort of has Bay Views if you go into the tower room and crane your head a bit. In the other rooms you do not feel like you are near water. That's ok, but I really do like to have that water experience when I am staying at the beach. Also, while the house was immaculately clean, it is a little "tired" in a few spots--most notably the carpeting. It was very worn in a lot of places and very stained in the upstairs bedrooms. The decorating is cute and the condition of the carpeting did detract from the overall feel of the house. All that being said, however, I would stay at Mermaid's Cottage again if I could not find a house for a similar price that had better water views.
You know it's going to be a wonderful week when you're greeted by the sweet aroma of honeysuckle as you approach the front porch. We can't say enough good things about this cottage. It would appear that the family who owns this cottage visits regularly based on how well appointed and supplied it is.
Not only is it fully furnished and well decorated in a beachy/nautical theme, it is supplied and stocked better than we expected. Many rentals are skimpy on towels for bathing use, much less for taking to the pool or beach. There were more (very soft towels) than you could ever want during the week, even if you never washed any in the provided laundry. The kitchen is better stocked with appliances, utensils and cooking supplies than mine! Included in the kitchen are many seasonings and supplies you just wouldn't expect in a rental. For the times you want to just veg there is wireless internet access and numerous full Samsung LCD/Plasma TV's throughout the home.
The house is very spacious and includes both a dining room and a kitchen table. We loved the 3rd story loft/bar area to hang out and watch the brilliant sunset. Rental includes access to the pool and private beach that are part of the Bay Creek Resort & Club less than a 10 minute drive.
We'd stay here again if we had the chance and appreciate all of the personal touches and comfort additions made to the Mermaid Cottage.
Wow, what a wonderful time we all had. The house was immaculate when we arrived and extremely comfortable throughout the week, with more than enough room for eight people, from preparing meals and spending time together to sleeping arrangements and personal time.
The perfect place for a relaxing quiet time away from the hustle and confusion of the traditional tourist areas, yet close enough to VA Beach for a day trip.
So, if you like to play golf, sit on a quiet beach, swim in a private pool, fish, boat and read outside without the noise of everyday traffic this is the place to be.
Thank you for a wonderful time.
Great spot near the beach, town, Pool and Golf course. Also 1st class reataurant. All items provided including rocking chairs for porches and bikes. 1st class house with plenty of room. We live on the California coast and we will be back again.
We had such a great time in Cape Charles the first time that we returned this summer for our family reunion. We stayed at the Mermaid Cottage both times. The house is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The weather was terrific and we had a wonderful time at the beach and having cocktails on the back porch. The sunsets at the restaurant, Aqua, are stunning. We had a very relaxing time with family!
The Cape Charles Beach is perfect for young families. Never crowded, no big waves, shallow water close in to shore. The fishing pier is free with fishing gear rentals available in town. Jet ski rentals at the Town Harbor. Great shops and restaurants on the main street one block away. Kiptopeke State Park with a great beach, fishing pier, boat ramps and nature trails only 6 miles away and near the Eastern Shore of Virginia Nation Wildlife Refuge also with trails and bird watching.
Only 1.5 hours north is Chincoteague and the Assateague National Seashore where wild ponies (Misty of Chincoteague) roam.
If you want to spend a day or two with day trips, the Virginia Beach ocean front is a little over 1 hour away with loads of shops and nightlife. Williamsburg and Busch Gardens is 80 miles and the Virginia Aquarium is about 70 minutes away.
Golf: World class Bay Creek golf courses are just 5 minutes away. An hour away in Virginia Beach are numerous other golf courses.
