About Sherry Rasmussen
We, Sherry and Ivan Rasmussen, have been involved the ARTs in Bar Harbor since the early 1970's. We own galleries and artist studios on the Bar Harbor Waterfront near the cottage. Ivan, who was once Bar Harbor Harbormaster, has spent most of his life near the ocean in his native Oregon and now on Mount Desert Island which is home to Acadia National Park. Growing up, Sherry's beach was Virginia Beach in her native state. She traveled extensively as an international flight attendant. Though her travels took her to many beautiful destinations, she says that Mt. Desert Island, home to Bar Harbor, is truly one of the world's great treasures...and Acadia's Sand Beach surrounded by mountains is now her beach. Ivan captures the beauty of the island in his watercolors that he sells in his own 'ART on West' and other galleries. We live right in the Village of Bar Harbor which is one of Maine's most walkable communities. And just like many of our Thankful Cottage visitors, we walk or bike into Acadia National Park from our home. A free bus runs from mid-June to mid-October from the Village of Bar Harbor into Acadia National Park and to neighboring Villages. The Village of Bar Harbor is surrounded by Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Island is just a short walk from the cottage. Did you know that the 'bar' across the 'harbor' to Bar Island is the reason for the town's name of Bar Harbor? You can see the 'bar' and Bar Island from the cottage. We love to share our community and island with visitors from around the world. You check in for your week at our 'ART on West: Gallery. We are there to get you started on a perfect vacation.

We enjoyed the Thankful Cottage. Sherry the home owner was very helpful to give us recommendations for the places to eat, purchase fresh sea food, and places to visit. We truly found the home quaint and charming. The jotel stove kept us comfortable when the temputer dipped. It is within walking distance to the Ocean front for a walk to see the sunrise or to walk to the Bar Island when it is low tide. We found it was easy to walk anywhere we needed or wanted to go. The Acacia National Park was a destination for us and it too was very easy to access from the cottage. This trip to Maine and Thankful Cottage made our anniversary truly memorable.
Quaint perfect location
The Thankful cottage is in the perfect location to walk to everything in Bar Harbor. All the shops and restaurants you could possibly want. It’s super easy to get in and out of town and just a quick drive to Loop Road in Acadia. The owners are extremely sweet and helpful. I would recommend this cottage to anyone. It makes you feel at home.
What a wonderful experience!
We could not have been more pleased with our stay at Thankful Cottage. Sherry and Ivan were welcoming, helpful and available.
The cottage was so very charming, immaculate and historical!
We did not want for anything there. We were walking distance to downtown Bar Harbor, restaurants, grocery store, shopping.
This home and Sherry and Ivan come highly recommended.
My husband and I travel as frequently as we can and we both agreed that Bar Harbor was one of our favorites! Sherry and Ivan’s hospitality and of course our stay at the cottage was a big contribution towards that!
The location could not have been better! It is conveniently located so you can walk everywhere in Bar Harbor! Acadia was a short drive which made it very easy to beat any crowds or to come back for lunch before heading back out again!!
The entire house was fully stocked for any needs. The history, charm, attention to detail, and love that was put into this house will only make you appreciate your stay even more!
Charming cottage and great location
The "Thankful Cottage" is situated right off of West Street near all the activities of downtown Bar Harbor, but tucked away enough to be quiet and relaxing. It was well appointed, very clean, and had plenty of room for 2 adults.
