Detached Home-styled cottage on Nevis with spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea

Bedrooms 2
Space 600 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

A secluded 600 sq. ft. cottage with wrap around porch overlooking the ocean

SeaGrape Heights Cottages are perched on hillside that provides one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean you'll find on Nevis. You'll be able to see nearby islands such as St.Kitts and Antigua, cruise ships at night and local fishing and touring sailboats. The cottages are within walking distance of the seashore which is good for swimming on sandy beaches or snorkeling in nearby reefs. The two bedroom has Caribbean styled high ceiling, over 600 of living space, a master bedroom with a king-size bed, a second bedroom with two single beds and one bathroom. Nearby, there is a one bedroom, 500 sq. ft. cottage with a king-size bed and one bathroom. It is available for extra guests or may be rented alone to guests with a party of one or two. Both cottages have similar designs with wrap around porch overlooking the ocean where guests can relax and enjoy the ocean breeze and ocean view.

Both cottages have ceiling fans in each room plus a split unit wall air conditioner in each bedroom. Because of the constant breeze off the ocean guests will seldom have a need for fans and less so for AC. Other amenities include a refrigerator with freezer, full-size electronic ignition gas stove with oven, microwave, kitchen counter with double sink, toaster, drip coffee maker, cooking and eating utensils, iron and ironing board, dining table and chairs, comfortable setee and chairs that could be used for relaxing inside or outside on the porch. Free WiFi is also available plus a smart TV with access to streaming Netflix movies and other shows. A washing machine and two-burner propane grill are also available to guests is.

The land at the back of the cottages is open and is accessible to guests who wish to hike higher up the hillside to get a better view of the ocean and a view of Mount Nevis.

About Austin Wallace

My name is Austin Wallace. I was born in Nevis and lived there until I was 18 years when I migrated to St.Croix (U.S.V.I) and later attended collage in Vermont and postgraduate at the University of Michigan. My wife Dawn is a Vermonter who first visited Nevis in 1976 and fell in love with the island and its natural beauty. Our dream was to return and live in Nevis after we retired. We are now living that dream. Part of that dream was to build attractive yet affordable cottages so family, friends and acquaintances could come and experience the natural beauty of this island paradise appropriately referred to as Queen of the Caribbean. SeaGrape Heights cottages were built and furnished with this in mind.

Austin Wallace purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Austin Wallace chose Camps

SeaGrape Heights cottages were designed jointly by me and my wife Dawn. They are built on land owned by my parents. Since her first visit to Nevis, Dawn picked this location as the spot where she wished to build our home. Due to the lack of an access road another site was selected for our house. Years later we developed an access road on the hillside so we could build SeaGrape Heights cottages on the spot we picked many years ago. The cottages have been under construction for several years and were opened to guests in 2014. The view alone is worth the trip.

What makes this cottage unique

SeaGrape Heights Cottages has the feeling of a home with a tropical look and feel. They are perched on a hillside and accessible only via a private access road. They provide the feeling of truly being secluded with no other buildings being nearby.

I would give a bonus star if I could. This property and host exceeded my expectations in every way!

The perfect Carribean experience! Austin and his wife Dawn were delightful hosts. The cottage was clean and welcoming when we arrived. Austin was extreamly helpful from the big things, like picking us up at the ferry dock and arranging a rental car to be at the cottage when we arrived, to the smaller things like having a few local beers waiting in the fridge for us, and arranging a guide for the Nevis Peak hike (ask him for Michael, lovely cheerful young man). He was also great to communicate with and provided much local knowledge. My mother in-law, wife, baby, and I stayed in the two bedroom cottage. The cottages are extremely well thought out and beautifully built. The heigh ceilings make them feel much lager than they are, the furniture and beds are very comfatable and suit the cottage well. The kitchen is small but practical, and we had no problem cooking our meals in it. The rap around porches are great for taking in the amazing views of the reefs, Atlantic, and st. Kitts. The driveway is steep, but short and well paved. The cottages are set up on a hill on the windward side of the island which provides a Great breeze and view! We were here a week and never turned the A/C on once, nor did we have any issue with mosquitoes. The village they are located above is quiet and peacful. I felt very safe here during our stay. The location is great in that its only a short drive to the best beaches, a gas station, and many great restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the Gin Trap. There is a greocery store only about a 10min drive in gingerland as well. I would recommend this place for anyone that enjoys exploring on there own, as a rental car is highly recomended. If you prefer to be catered to and rather take a taxi everywhere this probably isn't the best fit for you. Personally I can not imagine anywhere I'd rather stay, and I can't wait to come back to Seagrapeheights Cottages.

Owner's Response: This review said it all and I totally agree with their observations. From the beginning I felt that they were an excellent fit for Seagrapheights cottages and Nevis. It was a pleasure knowing this family and I would love to have them back as our guests/friends.

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful pair of cottages. My two sisters and I rented both and each had a room to ourselves. The views are magnificent and justify the steep ride up the drive. And, if you want to have privacy and quiet, this is just the place for you. The cottages are well appointed and clean; we enjoyed using the kitchens and cooking for ourselves. The landlord, Austin, went out of his way to welcome us and assist our comfort: he arranged the taxi and water taxi from the airport on St Kitts and also made sure that a rental car was waiting for us at the house. Austin also met us at the pier and ferried us to and from a nearby restaurant on the first night. He, like every other Nevisian that we met on this trip, was friendly and generous -- Nevis is the closest that we have come to paradise! We enjoyed exploring the island and swimming on various beaches. We also recommend the Botanical Gardens and its restaurant. I would love to come back someday and would certainly choose Austin's cottages again!

Vacation Stay at SeaGrape Heights Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation on Nevis and really enjoyed our stay at SeaGrape Heights Cottage. The owner of the cottage(s) Austin was extremely responsive to any questions we had and very helpful in coordinating our seamless transportation from St. Kitts to Nevis and securing a rental jeep for us. As this was our first visit to Nevis his assisatnce with the transportation portion was us really appreciated.

We felt right at home at the beautiful cottage which had all the ammenities we required for a "beach" vacation. The cottage is well appointed, very clean, maintained in an excellent condition and solid with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. The cottage has continuous brezzes which make for literally a "bug free" zone, as they can't navigate in the wind which is really importatnt in the Carribean.

Austin showed us around part of the island on the way from the ferry dock to the cottage and even introduced us to some of his friends at local restaurants that he recommended. He provided us with a map of the island and pointed out how to get to town for groceries, beach locations, how to get to the "hot mineral" baths, etc. He also had a print out of various activities that were on-going that week on Nevis and recommended activities he thought we would enjoy.

We would highly reccommend SeaGrape Heights Cottages as your accomodations if you were considering visiting Nevis.

Great view from the cottage. Austin, owner of the property, was very helpful in suggesting places to visit and answering any questions we had during our visit. Cottage was very clean and well maintained- pictures on the site do not do full justice. Nevis is a great place for vacation and beaches are just heavenly - I have not seen anything like this in my life. Both beautiful mountains and beaches at one place. We will definitely be back and will look forward to staying at the same property.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having Renu and her daughter Aditi as guests at my cottage. I was happy to show them what Nevis has to offer and, from our conversation, it appears that that is exactly what they were looking for on this vacation. It was sad to see them go because by then, through our conversations, I felt we were friends rather than guests interacting with owner. I was moved by their promise that they will be back. They also offer to talk to anyone on the phone or through email who wishes to know more about their vacation. I have permission to release their phone or email address to potential guests at Seagrapeheights Cottages. Austin

Stunning Ocean Views in Comfortable Cottage, Attentive and Kind Owner

  • 5 of 5

I just returned to the United States after staying one week at SeaGrape Heights Cottage in Nevis with my two young adult children, and the visit was fantastic. The cottage itself is an airy, bright and well-equipped home sitting on top of a high hill, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is close enough to the ocean that you can hear the waves. In the morning, it was such a peaceful experience to sit on the porch and watch the sun rise, listening to the sounds of nature. In the evening, we were fortunate to sit in the front yard on cushioned lounge chairs, feeling the ocean breeze and watching the stars, which were bright and clear.

The stay was made such a good experience largely because Mr. Wallace and his property manager, Artavia Liburd were extremely attentive, responsive and gracious. This was an adventure for us. We have rented homes within the United States via VBRO and Home Away, and never before have we had such support. Mr. Wallace and Ms. Liburd regularly communicated with me both before and during the trip. They offered information about car rental, ferry transportation and local events. Without my asking, Mr. Wallace thought of things I wouldn't have thought of, including best ways to travel to and from St. Kitts. A few times, when we needed items, he arranged delivery to our door within an hour or two! And, he coordinated assistance when we had trouble with the vehicle we rented, without me asking! When we needed to exchange vehicles, Ms. LIburd, who also manages Strickers Auto Rental actually brought it to us on the beach!

SeaGrapes Heights Cottage provided us with a safe, comfortable (the bed was more comfortable than my own) base to explore the island, which is stunningly beautiful. We visited the islands's beaches, rain forest, mountain and botanic garden. All of this was made easy by making use of a cooler and beach chairs that were made available to us by Mr. Wallace. We saw wild monkeys climbing the trees and goats and donkeys freely wandering about. While snorkeling, we saw sea turtles, crabs, squid, sea urchins and beautiful fish. Along the way, we met many friendly people.

Review of SeaGrapes Cottages

  • 5 of 5

Husband and I took the car ferry(Seabridge) over from St. Kitts. Ferry takes about 35 minutes, no problems nice wind in your face sitting on upper deck. We were met by the caretaker of the property as the owner was out of town (he did email me to tell me he had a family emergency in the US and would not be here prior to our stay. I was looking forward to talking with him as we had a texts back forth since January or so about the cottage. He called me to make sure things were going okay and we were able to communicate by email and a couple of calls.. It took about 10 minutes to get to cottages from car ferry. The caretaker met us at car ferry and we followed her to cottages. She was friendly. We had the two bedroom cottage and it was nice to wake up and see the view of the ocean from the bed. The cottage was clean and had what you need. I cook breakfast and bought breakfast foods from home (oatmeal, cereals we bought eggs, bread and fruit on the island) as to save money for lunch and dinners out. The views from the cottage are great and the breezes were quite relaxing, no to little insects as the winds high enough most days to keep them away. Hanging out on the porch felt so completely relaxing . Felt safe as well. This cottage could accommodate two couples. The cottage is reasonably priced. If you want peace and quite with great views, breezes and want to chill out and relax this is the place for you. As we make our way around the islands, we would return to this cottage. No question. I would recommend this to my best friend no doubt.

Seagrapeheights cottages are located in Barnaby village within a short walking distance of the seashore and local swimming and snorkeling areas. Barnaby village has a rural feel to it and residents are friendly and readily welcome visitors. Also within walking distance is Herberts Beach a well known spot where you can take a lunch and spend the day at the beach or go to nearby Nisbet Plantation Hotel beach restaurant for lunch or drinks. Herbert's Beach is also a great place for snorkeling and para-sailing. For those interested in worshipping or seeing historical places, St.James Anglican church (one of the remaining old stone built churches several hundred years old) is about half a mile from the cottages. If you are interested in visiting the Medical School of the America's campus, that also is within a half a mile walk from the cottages.
