A historic Santa Barbara Villa Estate. Built in 1916, this property enchants with it's location at the top of the Riviera, it's privacy down a long private gravel drive, spacious rooms, & breathtaking views of the entire Santa Barbara coast.
One enters through a vaulted breezeway to the entry courtyard where the old gardens and shade trees soften the view and provide separate and distinct areas for all forms of rest, relaxation, contemplation and entertaining. Formal dining room, foyer, and living room, all have french doors that open onto different private gardens and terraces. High ceilings throughout and casual, but, elegant decor including hardwood floors and seagrass flooring, give the house a comfortable feel that combines the best of Spanish Colonial architecture with modern day California living. All the upstairs bedrooms have ocean views, arched windows, and wrought iron balconies.
The outdoor dining area has both fireplace and gas grill. Complete kitchen with Garland commercial range, dishwasher, pots & pans, etc....
Two master bedrooms upstairs with king beds. 3rd bedroom upstairs with queen bed. Detached guest studio with queen bed and full bath.
While providing a tranquil setting for a home away from home experience, the location is also just minutes away from the Mission, downtown Santa Barbara, and white sand beaches. Wine Tasting in Santa Ynez is 30 minutes away. This is the quintessential Santa Barbara home, where one can easily imagine being in the south of France or on the Amalfi Coast, without the airfare!
The unique benefits of this House: Anyone who has every stayed at or rented this house, comments on how tranquil it is and feeling far away from the busy world. Often guests come with long lists of things to do and see while here, but, confess on departure that they were so content on the terrace, they found it hard to leave the house. We hope you will enjoy and explore every aspect of our beautiful town, but, if you are just as happy to have wine and cheese and watch the sunset from the comfort of your own villa then this is a good fit for you.
Please note we have a no-smoking policy and also that there is a resident cat at the property, and while this can be a perk for some, if you have severe pet allergies, it would probably not be a god fit.

After living in Italy for several years, we were almost ready to make the permanent move, but, couldn't quite give up life in Santa Barbara. We now travel extensively and are happy to share our home to others visiting the area. Since we do still live on the property part of the year, we do ask that you treat our home as you would your own while you are here.
Laurel purchased this estate in 1990
When we first saw this house over twenty years ago, it was love at first sight. It was the third house built on the Riviera and when you experience the view for the first time, you can understand why the sight was chosen. It has a very romantic timeless appeal and has a "slow down, enjoy the day" feel to it that cannot be resisted!
"We had such a lovely time at your house. We were thrilled with the beautiful view, the quiet surrounding, and the gorgeous gardens. Everything at the house was perfect - comfy beds, lovely furnishings, a well-equipped kitchen, cozy & spacious layout with plenty of rooms to mingle or to be alone. Thank you for all your efforts to make our stay comfortable. Your recommendation that we have Margarita help out in the kitchen was a great call. Our whole family fell in love with her and she made it possible for me to really enjoy our family gathering. I predict we will be back to enjoy everything again."
This is a simply beautiful estate with incredible views of Santa Barbara and the Coast. The outside patio with a fireplace and seating is a terrific place for a meal or snacks while enjoying the view. The bedrooms are all quite comfortable. The only downside is that the upstairs rooms with wonderful views have no drapes so you get full sunlight right away in the morning. If you wake up if there is too much light then this will bother you. The grounds are lovely. The kitchen is well equipped for any kind of meal prep that you want to do and there is a gas grill as well. The owner is very helpful and gave us some nice tips. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
The house, the host, the environs all collaborated to make our multigenerational stay terrific. Our host was very kind, available when we had questions, and made us feel most welcome. The drive way accomodated our three cars and a total of 8 stayed in the house. We all agreed we would want to visit again.
We had an unforgettable stay at this wonderful estate. The views surpass the pictures by miles. The owner was very helpful and you really do feel as if you are in the Riviera of another country.
Laurel was great, she has done an amazing job with this beautiful quintessential Santa Barbara home. It couldn't have been better, it was clean open airy with lots of beautiful gardens and patios for all of us to enjoy. We were two families of 4. 4 Adults and 4 older kids, 13, 17's, 21. Thank you Laurel we really enjoyed our stay and we will be back again.
I read all of the reviews, and feel I can't say much new ... our story is much the same as the others ... a group of six girlfriends chose this house for a special 25 year reunion. The pictures do not do this house justice. Everywhere you look, there's something to feast the eyes on ... from the view that goes on for miles, mountains, Santa Barbara and ocean ... to the lovely paintings, antiques and Spanish Colonial feel of the house ... to the gardens that beg to be explored and sprawl out through the property. I had to pinch myself!
While he house is older, which makes for quirky locks, and uneven floors, this only adds to the charm. The furnishings are incredibly cozy, and there are so many places to lose yourself, both inside and out, with a book, glass of wine, or to visit. We used every room ... coffee and wine on the terraces, breakfast al fresco and in the dining room, after dinner drinks in front of the fire. There are many classic books in the library, the kitchen is well appointed, and there are TV set ups, although with so much beauty, who had time?
The only "con" is the location, as it is twisty turny up the hill, but it really turns into a "pro" as the view begs you to never leave. I'm counting the days until I can return ...
Six of us ladies booked a few days in this magical villa. The whole property gives you the feeling that you are somewhere far away from all the chaos that is life. We relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed all the gardens and the patios. Every little space in this house holds another surprise. Laurel made us all feel so welcome, and the houses stunning! We will absolutely be making this a repeat destination.
