About Robert (Ken) King
My wife and I are 'seniors' who traveled the world before finding our paradise on this five miles of secluded beach in rural Mexico. I was a Navy pilot and am a retired attorney from South Carolina. Currently, we divide our time between Georgia, and Mexico. We love being immersed in nature and fully support the conservation of Mexico's abundant turtle population. We are adventure seekers and we love the stimulating environment which we have found in rural 'old Mexico'. The people are especially friendly ... they are very tolerate of folks who do not speak Spanish.
Robert (Ken) King purchased this House in 2011
Why Robert (Ken) King chose Zacualpan
Playa Las Tortugas is the most pristine natural environment that we have found in 50 years of extensive travel. We have a five mile beach that is virtually uninhabited. A fresh water estuary provides miles of mangrove lined waterfront that is ripe for exploration by kayak. At times, the butterflies add a further colorful dimension. The weather is phenomenal. The closest restaurants are 20 minutes away by kayak and a little longer if you drive. They have sand floors and the fresh red snapper is cooked on open charcoal grills. Our home is located in a grove of coconut palms and tropical flowers which line the beach access. A large and refreshing community pool (lighted) and a 65 ft lap pool are only steps from our Villa. In combination, these natural attributes spell 'PARADISE'. For visitors, these amenities will provide the most memorable vacation of their life.
What makes this House unique
The culture in rural areas of Mexico has remained true to tradition. Many aspects of life are slow and akin to 'yesteryear'. Often, farmers on horseback are contrasted with huge tractors that foreshadow the changes that are in progress. However, when the sun retreats at day's end, virtually all of the town's people come out to socialize with their neighbors on street sides and town squares. Nearby, vendors push carts laden with diverse food and beverages. Tiny 'mom & pop' stores sell vegetables and necessities from sidewalk displays. All in all, visitors can still experience the cultural warmth of old Mexican when visiting this area of Riviera Nayarit.

Amazing Location, rental and owner
The owners were so helpful getting us situated with this reservation. The drive was worth it, truly a beautiful place. Thank you to the "Reyes", Mario, Maria and Edgar!
This was a fantastic way to spend a 12 day family vacation
From start to finish, the Kings and their staff worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. We were travelling with 3 small kids (4,2,7) and starting our trip with Mario picking us up at the airport and it was perfect. The drive is long but there are alot of little fruit stands to stop along the way. When we arrived, Maria had a snack and fresh squeezed juice for us. The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The 3rd level was beautiful, but as some other reviews stated, a little scary for small children. The beach was perfect--warm water, small waves and beautiful sunsets. We were able to help with the turtle release (which Ken was able set up twice for us and we greatly appreciated it). This is a must and such a fun experience. My older two kids and husband kayaked the estuary and walked around the small town. We were able to see local fisherman each morning and they were always friendly and willing to show us their techniques. Maria was such a wonderful part of our trip. She was so sweet and although she spoke no English, communication was never an issue. She and Mario were always willing to pick up groceries or make us something off the menu. Ken was nice enough to even pick up groceries for us when he went into PV. He and his wife also had custom shirts made for our whole family and it was such a sweet touch and great way remember this wonderful trip. This community makes for a perfect family trip. Everyone we met was so kind and made you feel right at home. As some reviews stated, the bugs can be pretty annoying so we definitely advise packing powerful bug spray and also some anti itch gel or cream!
Overall, this really is such a special place. It's off the beaten path and a perfect way to connect with nature while enjoying all the area has to offer.
It is exactly as described. The house was fantastic, all the amenities were there for us. Mario helped book an amazing excursion and Maria's cooking was the best ever! The beach was fantastic and we were amazed that it was so clean and well taken care of. The absolute only thing is there are sand gnats or no-seeums as some people might call them. They bothered my boyfriend but I had no problems with them. It won't stop us from coming back we will just do more research on how to prevent them from biting! You can sit on the top floor and without turning your head you can look at the ocean and the mountains at the same time. We took long walks on the beach and collected seashells everyday. We went whale watching in San Blas and Mario negotiated a great price for us. The place had air conditioning but honestly we never needed it with the ceiling fans and the drapes closed in the afternoon, it was perfect. Whether you are coming as a couple, a family, or a group of friends, this is a great place to rent. It is exactly as described and you will not be disappointed. We stayed February 3rd through the 11th. Very fair price and well worth every penny! I can't say enough about the beach! We never did walk to the end as it is more than 5 miles of wild beautiful beach with beautiful sand. And don't get me started on the awesome sunsets! I've used VRBO in other areas before and things were semi-close to as described but enhanced, This is not the case here. Ken was super helpful and the directions we're spot on. We came late in the afternoon/early evening and were a little uneasy about the long 20-minute drive off the main road but once we arrived he was there to greet us and it was amazing!
My wife and I have been retired for almost two decades and we have had the good fortune to spend most of each "golden year" in this secluded paradise. As owners of Villa Reyes, nothing is more gratifying than seeing guests like Julie who choose to depart from the beaten tourist path and "absorb" the essence of this incredible beach, the pristine river/estuary, and our uniquely designed beach house. As Julie confirms, Playa Las Tortugas is such an amazing tropical destination that it is difficult for an owner to exaggerate the experience that awaits our guests.
Quiet secluded and authentic experience.

Jungle adventures and waterfall excursions can be arranged from Playa Las Tortugas. Deep sea & surf fishing opportunities. Aquatic opportunities abound.
