About the property

Villa, 2 Master Bedrooms, air mattress, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 5 to 6, rooftop bed!

Villa Reyes at Playa Las Tortugas - a secluded ocean front community on a gorgeous beach near Platinitos. An upscale tropical paradise on Mexico’s Pacific shore. Entrée Magazine summed up the picturesque setting: ..... “ a gorgeous, coconut-producing plantation, an 1100-acre estuary teeming with exotic birds and a turtle camp protecting the endangered olive ridleys ..“ The area also enjoys perfect 'Puerto Vallarta weather' ... 80's in Dec, Jan, Feb. There are usually 300 sunny days per year.

Villa Reyes beckons you to the travel experience of a lifetime in our private 3000 square feet home. 2000 sq ft of this includes the air conditioned living spaces on the first and second floors plus the two covered porches which adjoin the bedrooms downstairs and the dining and living areas on the second floor. The third floor provides 1000 square feet of open deck - equipped with a wet bar, palm covered palapa, full size outdoor day bed, dining table, and lounge chairs.

You will enjoy bothg privacy and tranquility ... with ocean views and the sounds of waves from both king size bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and from the rooftop deck. The pristine beach is just a leisurely 3 minute stroll through colorful tropical flowers, foliage, and coconut palms. Only yards further up the beach is the mangrove lined estuary where you can kayak among 125 species of exotic birds, including the resident pelicans and roseate spoonbills.

Canoe or swim across the estuary for lunch at one of Platanitos’ six sand floored, oceanfront restaurants. Enjoy a walk or a barefooted run on 5 miles of uninhabited sand beach that is lined with palm trees and goes on as far as the eye can see. The ocean waves are great for boogie boards, surfers, and ocean kayaks. The large community pool and the new 65 ft lap pool are just steps from Villa Reyes and are favorites of our guests. Volunteering to help the Turtle Camp research facility preserve the endangered sea turtle population is a popular guest activity. Even small children can participate in the release of hatchlings - sometimes as many as 1,000 in one evening.

Villa Reyes was purchased in September, 2011, by the current owners who have updated many of the amenities to insure the comfort of guests. Villa Reyes is now one of only two Tortugas rentals that offer air conditioning in all rooms – a special benefit when the mid-day temperatures heat up. A clothes washer and dryer are located in the Villa and the staff will gladly do your laundry every 3rd day. The kitchen is equipped with full size appliances and bottled water is supplied. Bath and bedroom linens are provided.

The Villa has 2 king size beds. Both spacious bedrooms have full baths, including large tiled showers. Each bedroom opens to a covered lanai. The large closets are adequate for a long term stay. (A hairdryer and iPod dock are provided.) Air mattresses are also available and Pack and Play are available for children. Our new roof-top day bed has custom insect screening and perfect ocean/pool views. This bed can provide 'starry, starry nights' for the adventuresome.

Highchairs are available. Close parental supervision is needed for children on the rooftop deck, near stairs, and in the water. Childcare can be arranged by the Property Manager.

There is daily maid and garden service to insure your Villa and the grounds are in top condition for your enjoyment.

The dining room table seats eight. The dining room table and computer desk are well positioned to retain the ocean views while you relax to use the free WiFi or just read a book from our selection of novels.

There are two additional dining areas – one on the second floor balcony and one on the rooftop. (For those of you who would like to leave the cooking to us, we can arrange affordable/authentic Mexican meals prepared in your Villa by our wonderful cooks.)

The den with flat screen TV/DVD player for free NETFLIX movies adjoins the kitchen and provides great ocean views/sounds. CD’s, DVD’s, books, board games and playing cards are provided. Colorful Mexican tiles and tasteful accent pottery will add to your enjoyment.

To reach Playa Las Tortugas, guests will travel 70 miles north from the Puerto Vallarta airport. Good roads will take you by mountain passages, small villages, roadside fruit stands, and the scenes become progressively more rural in the heart of the Riviera Nayarit. By the time you turn west toward the ocean, you will see major farming which produces tons of pineapples, large herds of cattle, and huge mango orchards. Arrival at Playa Las Tortugas before sunset is recommended to avoid bikes and stray cattle that could be on the roadways.

This area from Puerta Vallarta to Playa Las Tortugas has a great reputation for traveler safety and cordial citizenry. Top security firms have found Puerto Vallarto and the Riviera Nayarit among the safest tourist destinations in the world.

The weather in Riviera Nayarit is widely recognized as some of the best on the Planet. Average year-round temperatures range from highs of 80 to 85 degrees to lows of 60 to 70 degrees. Most rain occurs from July through September and even then, most rain occurs at night or during pre-dawn thundershowers. Much of the year is characterized by deep blue skies and ocean breezes.

There are multiple options for transport from the airport. Many guests choose to rent a car from companies like Gecko Car Rentals (they pick up and return you to the airport/they include insurance in the rental price). Some guests use bus/taxi transportation. We also offer a private shuttle that will stop for grocery shopping in Puerto Vallarta, when requested. (Our staff can provide provide next day delivery of grocery items you may have forgotten.)

A Washington Post reporter called Playa Las Tortugas his 'Shangri-La, the place I could recommend without reservation or caveat.” Our secluded beach community will indeed take you back to the 'old Mexico'.

The well appointed Villa Reyes will provide comfort, privacy, serenity and memories to last a lifetime. (For optimum privacy, remember that Villa Reyes is a free standing dwelling ... not a duplex or condominium.)

About Robert (Ken) King

My wife and I are 'seniors' who traveled the world before finding our paradise on this five miles of secluded beach in rural Mexico. I was a Navy pilot and am a retired attorney from South Carolina. Currently, we divide our time between Georgia, and Mexico. We love being immersed in nature and fully support the conservation of Mexico's abundant turtle population. We are adventure seekers and we love the stimulating environment which we have found in rural 'old Mexico'. The people are especially friendly ... they are very tolerate of folks who do not speak Spanish.

Robert (Ken) King purchased this villa in 2011

Why Robert (Ken) King chose Nayarit

Playa Las Tortugas is the most pristine natural environment that we have found in 50 years of extensive travel. We have a five mile beach that is virtually uninhabited. A fresh water estuary provides miles of mangrove lined waterfront that is ripe for exploration by kayak. At times, the butterflies add a further colorful dimension. The weather is phenomenal. The closest restaurants are 20 minutes away by kayak and a little longer if you drive. They have sand floors and the fresh red snapper is cooked on open charcoal grills. Our home is located in a grove of coconut palms and tropical flowers which line the beach access. A large and refreshing community pool (lighted) and a 65 ft lap pool are only steps from our Villa. In combination, these natural attributes spell 'PARADISE'. For visitors, these amenities will provide the most memorable vacation of their life.

What makes this villa unique

The culture in rural areas of Mexico has remained true to tradition. Many aspects of life are slow and akin to 'yesteryear'. Often, farmers on horseback are contrasted with huge tractors that foreshadow the changes that are in progress. However, when the sun retreats at day's end, virtually all of the town's people come out to socialize with their neighbors on street sides and town squares. Nearby, vendors push carts laden with diverse food and beverages. Tiny 'mom & pop' stores sell vegetables and necessities from sidewalk displays. All in all, visitors can still experience the cultural warmth of old Mexican when visiting this area of Riviera Nayarit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such an amazing time here! Just what we needed - a holiday in the sun. The house is amazing; we have never felt more comfortable staying in someone else's home. The beach is absolutely wonderful, it's so great to get some privacy! We spent many days enjoying the surf and the sun, along with many of the countless activities that Playa Las Tortugas has to offer. This was such a unique experience and we loved every second of it. The staff was wonderful and helpful, and they helped make sure that our stay was fun and rejuvinating. Thank you for opening your home to us! A beautiful and peaceful oasis

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this villa in Playa Torgugas. Maria and Mario were incredible staff and great people. The host, Ken, was extremely responsive whenever we had a question starting from the very beginning of the process up through our stay. The 2-3 hour drive from Puerto Vallarta was beautiful with mountains, ranches, farms and towns. The villa rooftop is fabulous with the day bed and sun chairs. Both pools on the premise are very nice and well kept. The beach is only steps away and was so remote and peaceful. We had a blast helping to release the baby sea turtles. Horseback riding on the beach was a fun adventure as well as deep sea fishing. The nearby town Platanitos was really fun to visit and have some fresh fish and margaritas. A big thanks to Ken and his staff for a wonderful and relaxing stay!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for taking the time to share your experience with prospective guests. Carolyn and I love to see guests building a bonfire on the beach, fishing in an authentic panga boat, kayaking the estuary, plus enjoying the opportunities to relax like you guys. I hope you returned to Minneapolis fully rejuvenated! We hope to see you return to "the real Mexico" soon.

villa reyes

This is in addition to my review left earlier today. My girls wanted to add that they LOVED helping release the baby turtles into the ocean.

And my husband and I wanted to mention that the owner was not only a pleasure to deal with but he had provided the best driving directions that we have ever received! Very easy to follow.

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in a beautiful location Villa Reyes will not disappoint.

Owner's Response: Thank you for communicating how much the children enjoyed helping release the baby turtles. The little hatchling seem to find a place in the hearts of everyone - from children to senior citizens, and everyone in between. The turtle camp at Playa Las Tortugas protects hundreds of thousands of eggs from poachers and wild animals each year. Guest are able to help launch the little girls and guys back into the Pacific ... the next generation of huge Oliver Ridley turtles. We always enjoy seeing families enjoying our beaches, pools, and the many outdoor activities under the umbrella of our coconut palm forest! Thanks for your kind words and we hope that you will join us again soon to further explore the "real" Mexico.

Fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

We could not have picked a more perfect spot. Villa Reyes is a dream come true. The house is lovely and very large. We had enough place for our family of five. We were there two weeks in July 2016.

The ground is beautifully lanscaped, very well maintened and very safe. The two pools are amazing too. Pictures are accurate.

The beach was perfect. It is secluded, clean and offer 5 miles of beautiful sand. There's no rock, also no weeds.

Our 3 boys (12,12 and 14 years) loved to play and surf in the waves. Kayaking in the estuary was also great.

The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Thanks again Miguel for your thoughtfull advises, José for providing us with any needs and dear Miriam for keeping the house and our things very cleaned and preparing our family very tasty Mexican food.

We were lucky, the owner Ken was there at the same time. He was generous with his time and always answered our many questions and requests.

For sure, we will repeat.

Owner's Response: This is a lovely Family that appreciates adventure in the great outdoors. It was very rewarding to seeing them enjoying our great beach, kayaking the estuary, taking advantage of the pools, and making trips to nearby towns to experience the local culture. We hope to see them return to Villa Reyes soon.

Amazing Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed in Villa Reyes in March 2016 and had an incredible time. The house is very well appointed and our family of five was very comfortable during the stay. We had a cook for the week and found the food to be incredible. We live in Mexico City and the cooking was some of the best Mexican food I have experienced. Playa Tortugas is a hidden gem in Nayarit and I highly recommend this property. If you are looking to get away to a secluded tropical beach that still has all the amenities of daily maid service and a private cook this is the place. We hope to be able to visit again in the future.

Amazing Vacation in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for renting your wonderful home to us. We just returned from a truly relaxing and beautiful trip to Nayarit. I highly, highly recommend this lovely vacation rental. It was perfect for our family of 5: 2 adults and 3 young children. The beach is gorgeous, the water felt so lovely. This is a truly well appointed home with comfortable, large, beds. The sound of the waves and the perfect sea breeze lulled us to sleep each night. Miriam prepared some absolutely delicious meals for us. Kayaking to the estuary in the mornings was an amazing, national geographic type experience. I highly recommend arranging meals. Not having to make shopping trips or cook was one of the best parts of the experience. I have already begun recommending this spot to many of my friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Villa Reyes. We intend for our corner of paradise to provide a wonderful and memorable vacation for each guest. This makes your confirmation personally gratifying for Carolyn and I. Please come back anytime. (P.S. - I believe your children would also love to release baby turtles during the nesting season ... and then there are the horses as they get older!)

Great place, good surf, peaceful, good service!

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to Puerto Vallarta with our two kids (9 and 6 year old girls) for Spring Break March 2014. We rented a car at Gecko Car Rental kindly recommended by Villa Reyes owner – would also recommend them. A quick stop on at the Mega at Bucarius and then on to the interesting road to PLT!

The PLT location has a good beginner/intermediate beach/river mouth surf break, I surfed a few times every day with a decent 9 foot Mexican long board! Superb for me and the kids also joined in with bogey boarding and relatively safe beach compared to other places I have been in Mexico. Of course, there were no crowds, just a few locals and some other PLT vacationers.

The house was great, clean an fully equipped with everything needed. The TV area couches could be more comfortable, but the WiFi bandwidth was excellent - Netflix a real bonus for evening relaxing in front of the box. The PLT caretakers - Gabriel and Pascual - were really helpful and always present for any questions or guidance. We did the Kayak trip up the river estuary to the mud flats, saw a croc on the way among many cool looking birds, kids loved that!

We stayed at PLT over 7 nights so did two trips to Sayulita which was great breaking the trip up a bit. We also went over to the nearby village of Plantanitos.

The PLT pool was well kept and close to Villa Reyes, one or two evenings the bugs became an issue so bring some repellent just in case. We also used the meal service provided which was good value, providing fresh breakfast and lunch/evening meals at a good price.

Overall we had an excellent time here and would recommend it to those looking for something more peaceful with a bit of Surf. Rent a car/jeep if you want to be mobile – the place is remote.

We trust your young daughters had some really unique and exciting stories to tell their friends when returning from Spring Break.
