Annual Friend's Trip, March 2016

  • 5 of 5

Our group of best friends from High School all gather together every year for a reunion. Every year we use vrbo to find a house and this is the first year we opted for the lake rather than the mountains. I don't think we will be heading back to the mountains any time soon! This house is by far our favorite of all the houses we have yet to stay in. We had 5 couples so 10 adults and 7 children (aged from 8 years old to infant). There was so much space for us all that we didn't even use all the beds that were available. Each couple got their own room with the loft available for the older girls to slumber party together. Noise was not an issue in this house, with little ones running around early, the bedrooms downstairs are tucked away from the game room and tv and the walls are so thick, you hear nothing. The kitchen is very spacious and provides everything you need; we cooked all of our meals. Having the extra fridge downstairs provided lots of space for all the food and beverages we brought. There are three full bathrooms in the house, one is in the master bedroom and the other two are located so that anyone could use them, one upstairs and one downstairs. There are also two sets of washer and dryers in the house. The kids stayed on the dock all day fishing as it was still too cold to swim. Life jackets and chairs were available for us to use as well as a two kayaks and a canoe. The water is very deep at the dock, two lost fishing poles couldn't be retrieved by diving daddies. Our gifts to the house :) The driveway to the house was steep and gravel but the road in the neighborhood was perfect for stroller walks and bike rides. The only thing that could have made the trip better would be warmer weather and warmer water so we could boat, swim and enjoy laying out on the dock in the sunshine. We can't wait to return to this house in the summer time! Thank you to the wonderful owners who we feel like we know now through all the family photos in the house. It's been one week and we already got our damage deposit back! Thank you for the memories, Blue Herron Lodge!

Thanksgiving Vacation 2015

  • 5 of 5

Our Florida family drove up to Littleton, NC for Thanksgiving dinner hosted by our aunt at her residence in Littleton,N.C. My husband and I now reside in Maryland. We moved from Florida last November and decided to join the family for Thanksgiving.

My husband and brother in law came up with the idea of renting a vacation home so everyone can be together under the same roof. Renting individual rooms would have been very pricey. The Blue Heron Lodge was selected. The driveway entrance is private. When we drove up to the house we thought it looked small from the driveway. Boy were we in for a surprise! The place is Huge! Simply gorgeous! There was more than enough room. The lodge is spacious. My daughter, nieces and nephews (ages 2-17) had the time of their lives. The adults had a great time too.

There are several areas in the home where everyone can gather to sit and mingle. When you get tired of bonding there's plenty of space to spread out and have quiet time. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the rocking chairs, watching the sunrise and the gorgeous view of the lake. My nieces loved taking pictures with all the beautiful fall leaves. They had their own photo shoot taking selfies. They will all have wonderful stories and pictures to share about their fabulous Thanksgiving vacation at the Blue Heron Lodge. Thanks again for sharing your home with us. We are most appreciative and thankful we found such a lovely place to share with family.

The game room downstairs is every child's dream. We played games indoors, had long conversations, used the canoe and boat for outdoor activities. We making s'mores on an open fire, sang campfire songs and enjoyed each others company. The children were so excited and loved their daily adventures.

Great family reunion

  • 5 of 5

Our family picked this place for our get together. Glad we did the house was beautiful and had more than enough room for us all. Every thing we needed was there. We love fishing and yes we caught plenty, even big cats. Even though we never meet the owners just talking to them on the phone they are wonderful people. Our family really enjoyed the beautiful home and lake. We will plan on returning. Also you get your deposit back quickly. I was surprised how quick I received mine. Thanks the Christful and Thomas family

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family vacationed last week at your Blue Heron Lodge and had the best vacation we have ever had!

Your home is so comfortable and lovely. All the family photos were a great touch. The kitchen had everything we needed. Having the sheets and towels provided was wonderful because having traveled so far we had to pack light!

Thank you for providing the kayaks and canoe. Everyone was on the dock from sunup to sundown.

I guess you could sum up our experience by what our seven year old granddaughter said on our third day. She asked what day it was and I told her Tuesday and we still have three more days. Then she said “the days go fast here don’t they?”

Thank you for your hospitality!!

Great house! Great memories! Great week!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful lake front house for the week of July 12 -18, 2015. We vacationed with three families from ages 15-72. The house is beautiful and spacious.... plenty of room for everyone plus more. Most of us never left the lake house. We spent hours in the lake every day floating in a tubes, playing in the water, jumping from the dock. The water is very deep which allowed for great jumping and dives! The owner supplied a canoe, single kayak and tandem kayak and we brought two single kayaks as well plus an inflatable boat. We took early morning and late evening trips in the kayaks. Plenty of areas to explore on the north side of lizard creek and this area was not busy with boats and jet skis. We rented a pontoon boat from Stonehouse Marina on the last day (they had the best price and were the most helpful). This gave us an opportunity to tour the lake and go through the culvert to get to the house. It was a tight squeeze but we did it and have a blast taking most everyone tubing. The evenings were spent relaxing, either reading a book by the lake, playing corn hole or playing board/card games. We also played some competitive games of ping pong and foosball. We shared delicious meals on the deck. The kitchen was well stocked and met all our needs. We even did some grilling and made a fire and had smores one night. We found fishing for catfish is best in the late late evening. My son is bass fisherman and didn't have any luck with bass. Some of the guys went golfing one day. The Food Lion grocery store is extremely close as well and the ABC store and Dollar General. The bed in the bed in the master bedroom (which I slept in was super comfy)The owner was very responsive to us and very accommodating. The house is well maintained and clean. We had no complaints from anyone the entire week. Only wish we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend this house to all!
