Don't let the pictures fool you. This is a dump!
On the positive side, the house was large and well located on the lake. But the downside was the house was a dump. The carpet was stained, no hot water in upstairs bathroom, the other two bathrooms took 10 minutes to get hot water, the ramp down to the dock was falling apart, can't fish off the dock because of seaweed, bedroom 5 with the bunk beds doesn't exist or was part of the house that was locked and not accessible. Overall the place was poorly maintained and isn't nearly as nice as the pictures suggest. Don't stay here.
I apologize deeply and sincerely for the issues that were described regarding your stay at this property. We were unaware of any problems at the cabin prior to your check-out. I have done some research and had someone from our team visit the home and we are taking all necessary steps to have the issues resolved as fast as possible. I am very sorry to hear this had a negative impact on your stay here in Big Bear and we hope it will not prohibit you from returning to Cool Cabins in the future.
Renter Beware - this dream is a nightmare
We recently rented this property for a family reunion and were thoroughly disappointed. From the description and price, we expected a luxury rental - but the only thing luxury about this cabin was the view, which is lovely. Inside the home is a completely different story. It's clear the owners are trying to make money from their view without investing in the home. It features:
- An outdated kitchen with a dishwasher that barely works and a fridge that froze everything in it
- Showers that didn't drain
- Beds with cheap linens and pillows
- Furniture that is at least 10 years old
In addition, the "dock" is old a rickety and not safe to be on. The hot tub was nice and we enjoyed the sand volleyball court. But basically we made the most of a bad situation. Renter beware!
Made the best of a messy situation
Lakefront Dream? This place might have the potential to claim a name like that, but far from a reality today. More like Lakefront Nightmare. The owners of this place are obviously milking the location, and could care less about the condition of the cabin and grounds.
Hardwood floors were dirty, tobacco cans and empty wine bottles littered in the 5th bedroom, Ice maker didn't work, carpets were still wet (surprised they cleaned them though), not only was hot tub water filthy, there were red solo cups on the bottom. Trash was scattered all around the backyard, hose was cut in half, had to visit the fuse box multiple times. Throughout the house was a smell of dog, especially the 5th bedroom (which I paid extra for) when we walked in thought it was once a dog kennel.
Was looking forward to the pool table, and we did play, but with broken pool sticks. We salvaged one and shared it, but had no chalk.
With all that said, we cleaned up as much as we could and made the best of it, knowing that it was not worth the cost. We were only staying a couple nights, our time was limited, or else we would have spent time going through the process of locating another place.
I had friends travel in for the weekend, so I was embarrassed to stay the least.
To top it off, I called Cool Cabins to check out and explain some of my frustrations, and they were rude and short, and kept passing me onto different personnel.
Bottom line: If you are looking at the pictures and location and think you came across a nice place......BEWARE!
P.S. - It wasn't ALL bad. Volleyball court was fun, location is great, and views from backyard were nice.
I'm not the one to complain, and hate sounding like a grump, but felt it was necessary to prevent this happening to another optimistic vacationer.
