We are looking at purchasing a property at Surf City and rented this unit to determine if the Surf Condo property would be a good start. The positives we took away from this property are: Unobstructed view of ocean; Immediate access to beach; Beautiful pool area; Centrally located to restaurants and shopping; Beautiful and super-clean beach; AC system worked great. The negatives we took away from this property are: Large hole in ceiling over toilet in one of the bathrooms (with insulation falling through regularly) - we could only use one toilet; We killed 5 cockroaches in the kitchen area while there; No screen door so we couldn't hear the ocean unless we left sliding door open - but that invited house flies; I had to fix the handle on the sliding door as it was hanging off; Appliances, electronics, and furniture very old; The bathrooms need a major overhaul - the bathtub is very old and has a large crack in it, so we could only stand at one end during showers for fear we would break through the floor; The faucet in the bathtub constantly leaks; The bathroom sinks and faucets need upgrading; the floors are uneven; the walls are too "thin" - we constantly heard banging from the wall next to our rental, often shook the TV and items on the corner unit (like someone was throwing themselves against the wall); the decking needs replacing as it can cause splintering.
But, we were so pleased with the weather and view, that these issues did not really dampen our enjoyment. However, we walked away knowing we would not purchase in the Surf Condo property. Our suggestion is that the current owner should invest in upgrading this property if he/she continues to use it as a rental.
