Our group had a great time in the house. Here are some pros and cons

Pros: House was equipped with so many entertainment and space it allowed our group to really bond. All rooms were spacious enough for each family who paid the same amount so they felt like that got their share of the house. The view was beautiful although we thought we would have a large view of Lake Anna. Still, a beautiful site in the morning. There were windows everywhere. Hot tub and fire pit were great additions to the house. Boat area/swings were entertaining for all ages!

Cons: Small oven had so much food residue from previous use that we couldn't use it. It would burn every time we turned it on. Utensils, pots/pans were overused. However, we were still able to make delicious meals =). There were no dishwasher detergent so one of us had to make a grocery trip out. The checkout list was burdensome- all of us was extra cautious and caused unnecessary stress that our security deposit would be taken away. We have stayed at other Homeaway homes and never seen such a list.

Thank you for the wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Anna. Thank you for the feedback. The cleaners were not clear on your comment about the 'small' oven (toaster oven?) They saw no issues with any of the ovens and reported them all clean and in working order. Two skillets and a cook pot are being added to the kitchenware but I try not to throw out older items unless they are unusable. There are some large groups that come in that make some equally large meals, so I figure some extra cookware may be welcomed, even if it is not brand new. Kitchen utensils appear to be in good shape and adequate. My apologies for the absence of the dishwasher pods - this was an oversight. I really wish you had not stressed over the checkout list. I try hard not to withhold any deposit unless there is abuse or neglect. The items on the checkout list are minor and many are intended as 'reminders' as guests may not realize the consequences of not doing so (like lowering umbrellas and latching the hot tub cover if you used them, so they don't blow away). I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and welcome you and your party back in the future! Amy

Well maintained adult/kid/dog friendly retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 13 adults, one toddler, one infant, and one dog loved this property. Pros: large main room/kitchen area, outdoor gated deck, gas grill, large fire pit, dock area with the sandy beach, plenty of parking on quiet street, and the downstairs rec room and bar area. Cons: It's minor but only one full bathroom upstairs for four bedrooms (but 1 full bath and 2 half baths on the main level and 1 full bath in the basement). The house is very well maintained and clean. The owner, Amy, was very responsive and reasonable. We would absolutely rent again!

Refreshing time at the Lakehouse

  • 5 of 5

The house was gorgeous and the owner was accommodating to our Christian Young Adult group for our first ever winter retreat. The house is FULL of amenities and things to do. We hope to stay here again in the future.

Wedding. Family Weekend.

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed the weekend at this beautiful property. We came up on Friday and had our wedding in the backyard on Saturday. Talk about amazing. The views, the land, the house is so spacious, and there is something for everyone. My 7 year old enjoyed the old school Nintendo and the games. He also loved playing ping pong, air hockey, and pool while the adults enjoyed the amazing kitchen and family time. Sadly we were too busy to put the hot tub to use, but everything was just lovely.

Pros: Amy is super helpful and quick to respond to a bazillion questions.

House easily accommodates large groups and families.

Lots of seating and activities.

Gorgeous views.

The only con I can think of is the second oven wasn't working so we did have a bit of trouble getting all the food cooked for the wedding in a timely manner, but I know she is getting that fixed and it was just a timing issue.

I can't wait until we can bring our family back for a more relaxing vacation and for a longer period of time!

Thanks Amy!!

Owner's Response: Stephanie - So happy your special day was blessed with beautiful weather and fun time for all. Very unfortunate on the timing of the breakdown of the wall oven, but yes, a new combination microwave and convection/bake wall oven was installed in the following week. Best wishes for a lifetime of happiness and love to you and your family!

Pretty house in the outside however a little disappointed on the inside...

  • 1 of 5

The bedrooms on the third floor were not the best my girlfriend almost flipped the bed by sitting on the edge ....

The tvs in bedrooms didn't work

The main floor

The ceiling light was flickering the whole time we were there which was very annoying, trash compactor didn't work.

Their was a leak in the fridge that we constantly had to wipe up.

The basement .... Holes in the wall , pool table edge kept falling off and huge leak in the ceiling next to the pool table so every time we played it dropped on us... Not only that but we had to dump out the water the whole time we were there.

Outside the Ceptic tank over flowed which smelled horrible not to mention my friend had to hang at the house to talk to the people while the rest of us went tubing...

Extremely dissatisfied with the owner that charged is $15 for a vase .... One of the kids did knock it over :-( however we had to deal with all these things in the house and invited her in for dinner which was filet mignon. I'm just at an awe of how the owner charged $15 k owing that we were gracious enough to help her with her house. Not going back to this house again !

Owner's Response: Appalled by this review! I take pride in the condition of this property, inside and out, and have been told by many guests I need to post new pics to reflect the current condition as the house has undergone many upgrades/improvements. Thanks to this review, this will be occurring very soon. Responding to the items noted: "almost flipped bed by sitting on the edge" - No clue how this can be done by sitting on, or even jumping on a bed "Tvs in bedrooms didn't work" - per listing, there is Dish Network available in both family rooms and the bar areas. Bedroom TVs are not even listed, but those with TVs have either a VCR, DVD, or BluRay for viewing movies and are in working order. "ceiling light flickering" - Have not located a flickering light. "Trash compactor didn't work" - Will not be repaired, removed from listing. "leak in the fridge" - My family used the home the next week and saw no evidence of a leak, nor any complaints from any other guests, before or since. "Holes in the wall, pool table edge falling off, leak in ceiling" - Have not located any holes in wall. There are a couple of dents next to the pool table, caused by a guest hitting the wall with a pool stick. The plastic piece at the pool table corner pocket has been fixed and did not affect game play. There was a leak in the ceiling next to the pool table that upon arrival I asked the guest if they could keep a bucket under it to keep the carpet dry. This leak persisted for over 30 days and was ultimately found to be a crack in the line for the AC condensate pump. I had multiple HVAC techs in to diagnose the cause before it was finally located and corrected. I'm not sure this was a huge inconvenience, but indeed a problem. "Ceptic over flowed" - On the 3rd day of the guest's stay, I was informed the septic (liquid only, NOT SOLIDS) was leaking into the yard. I immediately called a repairman and left work to meet him. Problem was found to be the septic pump switch in the basement was TURNED OFF, likely by a member of the guest's own party (unless no one showered for 3 days). When I arrived to meet the repairman, there were 12+ teens/pre-teens downstairs with air mattresses covering the entire family room floor, and another 12+ adults upstairs, despite a contract written for 14 guests. Clearly a breach of contract, a $15 deduction for a $45 hand-painted vase, and a $185 septic service call was letting this guest off easy! Correct - they will not be returning to my property!

Beautiful lake front home with spectacular views and wonderful owner

  • 5 of 5

This home offered everything we wanted for a vacation with our family. The young grand kids loved the little Sandy Beach for playing and swimming. The older grand kids love jumping and diving from the dock. The house was beautiful and spacious with comfy beds. The kitchen was large for all of the chefs to cook together (our family loves cooking).

The owner was extremely helpful during booking and prior to our arrival and addressed all of our questions.

I would highly recommend this home!!
