This beautifully restored and modernized estate home of the late Sir Roland Symonette, first Premier of the Bahamas, retains its original elegance while enjoying modern comforts and conveniences. Hearts Ease, as Sir Roland named it, sits on a hill above a beautiful pink-sand beach. Hearts Ease enjoys spectacular 50-mile, 180-degree views of the beach and ocean below. It’s a short 100-yard walk down the hill to the beach.
At the entrance of the villa, you are greeted by three sets of French doors that open into an expansive Great Room looking out upon the ocean. The 16 foot ceilings, lovingly restored paneled walls, fireplace, and antique chandeliers combine with the views to make a stunning first impression. To the right is the Master Bedroom with private deck, large en suite bath and queen-size canopy bed, a spacious and delightful room.
To the left of the Great Room is the kitchen, fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and sliding glass doors to the patio. In addition to the Master Suite, Hearts Ease has two guest bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Each guest bedroom has access to a private outdoor sitting area, closet, and queen bed. Hearts Ease has a powder room convenient to the Great Room, and a large and fully equipped laundry room with washer and dryer.
The extensive outdoor living space includes a large screened porch, a beautiful low-walled patio of the same size, and a rooftop deck, all with spectacular ocean views. A gas grill is available for outdoor cooking. After a day on the beach, enjoy our private outdoor shower. Heart Ease is beautifully landscaped with tropical flowers, palm trees, and fruit and nut trees.
Hearts Ease is just 50 yards from a large and lovely pool shared with several other homes. Just past it is our pink sand beach. A short walk down the beach takes you to Sky Beach Club's excellent restaurant and bar, which has poolside service all day long. Other nearby fine dining includes Cocodimama, five minutes by car, and Tippys, 10 minutes away. The picturesque town of Governors Harbour, less then three miles away, has 19th century homes and churches, grocery stores, banks with ATMs, gift shops, liquor stores, dive shop, bakery, restaurants, and a restored historic library.
Hearts Ease is fully equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Amenities include air conditioning in all bedrooms and the kitchen, WIFI, landline phone, satellite TV, DVD player with video library, stereo system with CD player, video games, library of books, board games, children’s toys, beach chairs, beach towels, and snorkel gear. For babies we have a pack and play crib, high chair, and an all-terrain stroller.
Come relax and find peace at Hearts Ease, just as Sir Roland would have wished for you.
The house was perfectly appointed both inside and out; it’s extremely clean, well maintained, and sitting in the perfect location. While not directly on the beach, it's maybe a couple hundred feet from the surf and trust me when I say you can easily hear the ever calming, sleep inducing, vacation relaxation mode song of the crashing Atlantic waves. The house provided everything we needed as a young family of 2 adults and 2 young boys, ages 4 and 2.
The house is situated up on a hill, so every beach front room, and most of them are, have awesome views of the sapphire gin colored ocean. The rooftop deck has ~4 deck chairs (lounge and rocking) to enjoy sunset cocktails and the screened-in porch is a must for dinner when the bugs are out at dusk and eating at home. There’s also a sweet hammock directly outside the master bedroom on the deck overlooking the ocean that my wife enjoyed at night.
The pool is only about 25 yards from the house and is in direct sunlight for the majority of the day and there’s no one ever there.
The Wi-Fi is strong enough to play Netflix movies for the kids if you run your device in the master bedroom, which was surprising considering the remoteness of the island. There’s also a large Bose sound station with a jack for your phone to play music. If you stream music like I do and want to use it over Wi-Fi then I strongly recommend moving the unit closer to the master bedroom but still out in the main family room on the floor where the signal is strongest – you don’t want your device to easily drop from the house internet and start sucking up your international data plan by accident (which it will do if you use your device in the kitchen and beyond it to the left of the house).
The house is also located in close proximity to downtown Governor’s Harbour and the airport – maybe 5 minutes in either direction and you’re at one or the other. This makes it really convenient for groceries, drinks, restaurants, etc.
Finally, Matt Simon and his team were incredibly helpful with all of the details that helped make this our favorite trip to date and he provided reputable people for: rental car, personal chef at the house, and baby sitter for adult date night.
We’d happily recommend the house Heart’s Ease, Matt and his team, and Eleuthera as an incredible beach destination for those looking to get away from it all on some truly jaw dropping beaches.
We recently stayed at Hearts Ease. The layout of the home is perfect for 6 people. The home was in immaculate condition. All amenities were useable and in good condition.
The dining room was perfect for hosting dinner parties. We have been to the island a number of times now so we have made friends whom we had over for dinner. The nearby Sky beach Club and restaurant Pascals has great food and we spent many days and evenings over there. A quick walk down the path is all that's required.
Eleuthera Vacation rentals staff in particular Tara Davis were very responsive to questions and great to deal with.
The screened I porch is perfect for keeping away from the no see ums.
Our favorite beach was on the Caribbean side Coco Di Mama beach. You need to rent a car to travel to this beach but well worth it.
I would be happy to answer anyone's questions regarding the Island. I fell like it's may second home at this point.
We visited off season and this place was just up our street. Private yet walking distance down a beach path to a beach club for a drink and bite to eat, all mod cons, beautifully and tastefully decorated, lots of towels, beach towels provided etc and perfectly clean, well presented and well maintained.
Often, when we visit places we have a bad habit of saying to ourselves "if these was ours we would not have don't this and would have done that"...not at this place.
Location was perfect for us too - out of town but only 10 mins by car, a couple of minutes walk to the beautifully empty beach. It was private but with a few houses around so you didn't feel completely on your own / exposed.
DO get out and about though - There's lots to see in Eleuthera. Hire a small and capable 4x4 to get around as some of the beach "roads" are seriously "off road". There is a great book about the beaches - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K6ZTCS0/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 that you can get for the Kindle or iPhone kindle app. Take a Sat Nav as the book gives beach and road co-ordinates.
Brenda and Billy who are the property managers are simply lovely. They don't bother you at all but are there if you need them.
Be aware that Eleuthera prices are high and many want cash rather than card but everything has to be brought in to the island so that is to be expected.
We don't often recommend but this one we definitely do!
My husband and I travelled to Heart's Ease with our 6 children aged 2-16. As you can imagine the pressure was on for me to "get everything right" so as to not dissapoint all the kids and live for a week with complaints! Well, let me tell you, NOTHING about this house disappointed anyone in our family! The house was beautiful and clean and has stunning views of the ocean! The house is set up so well for a family, with the master bedroom on one side of the great room and two other bedroomsand kitchen on the opposite side of the great room. All rooms have lovely en suite bathrooms with great water pressure. Also having the house on city water with a filtration system meant we could drink the water from the tap in the kitchen as opposed to buying lots of drinking water. I was a little concerned that the great room would not have air conditioning but honestly with the central air in the bedrooms ( which are right off the great room) it was quite comfortable because we lef the doors open to the bedrooms and all the fans helped circulate the air very well! The pool just about 50 feet down the hill -on your way to the beach- was very large and perfect for the kids on our way to or from the beach. And the beach was perfect for everything from playing in the sand, to floating in the ocean, to snorkeling. In fact, we found the south end of the beach to have the best snorkeling on the island-we saw hundreds of beautifully colored fish, shells, and corals. It was also very convenient to have the sky beach club within walking distance for a nice lunch. Matt made everything so convenient, with the groceries sent up from Rock Sound (all I had to do was order online and a lady from the store called me if she needed to make substitutions), to the suggestions for places to eat ( we really liked Tippy's for dinner and Sky Beach for lunch), and snorkeling sites. He also was helpful with finding ways to actually get to the island- so many airlines and routes but end the end we took the direct flight from Atlanta to north Eleuthera which leaves on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This was very convenient when travelling with so many children. And speaking of children-the house already had a crib and highchair and while there is a nice lady we could rent more equiptment from, we decided to just bring our own for the other twin. The managers of the home, the Stubbs, were so friendly and helpful as was their son, Keane Stubbs, who arranged for an SUV for us to drive while there.
My family of four just spent an amazing week at Hearts Ease. This is one of the most beautiful homes on the island. It is luxuriously decorated, yet still feels warm and comfortable. The house was impeccably clean! The kitchen was equipped with everything you need to prepare a nice meal. The sun was strong, and after a few hours my family was able to come up to the house from the beach (which we felt was the best on the island), and sit inside the screened in porch and eat, play games, or read a book and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. The screened in porch was also a huge bonus at night when the mosquitos and no see-ums are out. There were plenty of towels and linens for the cooler nights. It was also a pleasant surprise that the house provided laundry and dishwasher detergent, just a little added bonus for a mom who didn't want to have to worry about such things on her vacation. There were plenty of movies for kids to watch at night, and board games as well. We rented a jeep and explored most of the island. Highly recommend visiting Queens Bath, and the Glass Bridge. My family loved walking over to Sky Beach club and eating at Pascals, great burgers and fantastic kid friendly menu. Our favorite though, was 1648, where we had 3 unbelievable dinners on the deck watching the sun set over the Caribbean Ocean. We had the wonderful privilege to meet Billy and Brenda Stubbs, the property caretakers. They were lovely and very, very helpful. We rented through Eleuthera Vacation Rentals and worked with Matt and Tara who made the process extremely easy. I highly recommend this house, I guarantee you will not be disappointed! We will definetely go back!
We spent almost two weeks at the house and had a truly fantastic vacation. The island is tranquil, the beaches are amazing - with the remark that we felt that the beach at the house is the best of the island, temperature of air and water are perfect. And we stayed in a generous, clean, well maintained, perfectly located house. We did not miss a single feature / item. Neither in the kitchen, nor the sports equipment. We can recommend this place without any hesitation whatsoever. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
Hearts Ease is located on the Atlantic side of the island, at Hut Pointe Beach, Wykee Estates, 3 miles north of Governors Harbour and 4 miles south of Governors Harbour Airport.
