We were looking for a house to rent on the Islands. We had never vacationed in the area, and were hoping to find something that was centrally located, but also close enough to spend some time in Burlington. This house was perfect for us and Alan was a wonderful host. He gave us lots of advice about where to eat, shop and fish! We were across the street from the Hero's Welcome and just down the road from the North Hero House. My 2 sons fished every day from Alan's dock and my older one caught about 10 from there! Driftwood Tours (Capt. Holly) was a great suggestion for chartering some fishing out in the lake -- where my older son caught his first bass! Loved Alburgh Dunes for swimming. House was great with fully equipped kitchen, linens, washing machine, and even a veggie garden. The only minor downside was that being on Route 2, traffic can be loud early in the morning -- great if you want to get up and go fishing! Definitely would recommend this house.

North Hero is Vermont's only waterfront village, and Bay Cottage is the only house in the village that is on the water side. Sitting on the deck or looking out the water side windows, no buildings are visible - just the lake and mountains. Within the village is one of New England's finest general stores with bakery and deli, kayak and bike rentals - the Hero's Welcome. The North Hero House Inn and Restaurant has both casual waterfront and fine dining featuring local foods. There are antique and craft shops, a museum, library, church and Chamber of Commerce. There are special events such as antiques and art shows and local theater at the restored North Hero Community Hall. These are all within easy walking distance of Bay Cottage.
Restaurants, shops, galleries, local farmers' markets, grocery stores, a winery, and the world's oldest fossil reef are minutes away in the other Champlain Islands. Burlington, a vibrant university city is 30 miles south and Montreal, Quebec is 1.5 hours north.
