Michigan House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.75+ Baths, (Sleeps 6-12)

Picture yourself…relaxing on a glider bench, or on your own private nature trail, at our secluded family estate. Nestled on 8 ½ acres on the North end of Guthrie Lake, enjoy a time away with great fishing, swimming, and other activities. Or choose to just get away from it all at our sheltered retreat with plenty of relaxation.

The sighing of the breeze through the pine and hardwood forest speaks peace to my soul.

Guthrie Pines, Semi-Rustic 3 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath, 1600 sq. ft.+ lakefront ranch home, wooded lake frontage on 8 ½ acres. It's a beautiful spot on the North end of Guthrie Lake. This home has been in our family since it was built in the early 1970's.

Guthrie Pines comfortably sleeps 6-12 (or more). The home features an open floor plan with two queen beds and one double bed in the three bedrooms, a queen hide-a-bed in the family room and a double sofa-bed on the screened in porch (as well as a couple of other couches, air beds, and foam pads for floor sleepers if you want). Natural Pine paneled living room (Paneled with lumber from logs milled from the original Lake Guthrie Forest Reserve!), with fireplace has a spectacular view of the lake. Living area also has a Flat Screen HD TV w/10 local channels, PlayStation 2, with games, a Blu-Ray player, and a DVD collection. Family room area has a game/eating table and pull-out queen sofa sleeper for extra sleeping. (Just slide the table aside-it is on wheels for this purpose). Lakeside bedroom has TV/VCR with a wide collection of VHS tapes for the entire family. Fully equipped kitchen is ready for easy entertainment. Inside Dining areas can seat up to 24. Lakefront screened porch, provides gaming/eating space at a round oak table for 8 or more, as well as providing a wonderful location to relax and enjoy the lake (even build a puzzle there if you'd like). Puzzles and games are available for quiet relaxation. We also have a beautiful antique piano available for the music lovers in your group. (Please use with care-no pounding please!).

The sandy beach front is ideal for swimming in the crystal clear water. A sand bar extends out for over 100 feet for shallow water swimming, perfect for small children. Fishing, (for small and large mouth bass, bluegill, perch, and others. We have a live box in the lake so you can keep your catch fresh until you are ready to clean it and cook it.), boating, and other water sports are waiting for you at Guthrie Pines. You can launch your boat at the Guthrie Lake Public Fishing Site. (Located about a mile from the house at the Southeast end of the lake). A nature trail winds through the forest on the 8 ½ acre site. Foot trails are marked for easy walking. Relax on the glider bench that sits overlooking the water's edge with a drink, or enjoy a campfire in the lakeside fire-pit. Play croquet in our challenging lakeside yard course. The set is provided.

Just minutes off I-75 at the Waters exit. The property is in close proximity to a Golfer's paradise in Gaylord. Guthrie Pines is located in the golf Mecca of the Midwest. Golf Digest rated it as one of the top 5 golf destinations in America. Near to Treetops (Masterpiece, Premier, Signature & Tradition), Otsego Club (Classic & Tribute), The Natural, Marsh Ridge, The Loon, The Lakes and many more. It is only 16 miles from the world famous Tree Tops golf resort and 1 hour from Garland resort. Boyne Mountain is 75 minutes away, it boasts of indoor water park and also has a world class spa. For more family fun, Mackinac Island is only 1 ½ hour away. You can pick from 3 casinos as close as 40 miles away. Traverse City (Cherry Festival in the summer, Zoo) and Petoskey are also within a couple of hours drive. Gaylord boasts of the Alpenfest in Mid-July, an Elk viewing area, a micro-brewry, and the Call of the Wild Museum. Some of Grayling’s area attractions feature canoe races on the AuSable River, Hartwick Pines State Park, The Fred Bear Museum, and local fish hatcheries. Grayling also boasts of Camp Grayling National Guard training facility. You may hear planes and/or choppers flying training missions near the lake, as the 'Range' is about a mile away. Sometimes artillery practice is heard, and sometimes we are treated to night sky flares. We are thankful for the training our National Guard receives here to defend our country. There may be noise from some of the activity, but this training center offers no threat of danger to the lake properites residents.

North Central State Trail - Bike from Gaylord to Mackinaw City. See the North Central State Trail website for for information.

There is a notebook available at the rental with plenty of information of area attractions and things to do. We also have many brochures from the Michigan welcome center to give you lots of ideas for places to go and things to do. These are in the drawer of the table stand under the TV.

About Linda

Sisters- Friends-HOME! We grew up in this home, and it holds wonderful memories for both of us. We'd love to share it with you as well. Since we both live in the southeast part of the US now, we can't just let this vacation home sit without anyone enjoying it! Allow us to share some of our family heritage with you. The home we grew up in, on the lake we love, in the peaceful woods that give us the roots in our lives.

Linda purchased this house in 1972

Why Linda chose Michigan

This is our family estate home. Built by our parents in the early 1970's without borrowing, selling, or leaving a debt. A memorial rock is at the side of the yard area commemorating their respect for the beautiful woods and lake area we still call 'Home'.

What makes this house unique

We love the beautiful walks along the lakeshore, swims in the crystal clear waters of the sand bottom lake, and fishing in a rowboat or right from the shore. There is always time for a hike through the woods, watching for deer and other wildlife at the stump with the salt block in it, or enjoying the squirrels and chpmunks frolicking through the tree branches.

As a family we love game time, and movie time, a walk through the woods, row boat and canoe rides, and meals together. Whether you want to read, and be quiet, go fishing, or play in the lake, there is something for you to do at Guthrie Pines. Bonfires in the evening are so relaxing, and it is always fun to make s'mores! Or just relaxing in front of the fireplace inside in the rocking chair, if that fits your style more.

We have added a fire pit by the lake with log stools or outdoor chairs around it for bon-fires and making s'mores, or even roasting your hot dogs! It's a beautiful view at night, and a great place for making memories with family and friends.

Nearby state parks offer other interesting things to do, and the local festivities in the summer add great fun to the time, 'Up North' at Guthrie Pines. Nearby rivers (AuSable and Manistee) are famous for canoeing, and there are golf courses in abundance in the area.

This a beautiful seasonal place to go. The summer fun on the lake and relaxing is so pleasant. The hardwood and evergreen forests surrounding the house, make the Fall a beautiful time of year to visit. Springtime bursts with new life in the woods as the leaves bud and turn green. Sorry-winter is unique, but the house is not able to be open during the winter months.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had such a nice time with our family and we saw the awesome protection of God as a huge storm blew over many trees. We were thankful to be together and had a great time making memories even when the power was out!

This is such a great place to stay. So homey, and nice. We highly recommend it!

summer fun

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for a week in July of 2016, we had a great time! We are big fisherman, and water was pretty rough except for 2 of the days, but the breeze was heavenly! The only thing that was a bit annoying (for us) was the fact that we had 2 kayaks & rented the row boat, however the beach space is very narrow so if u wanted to swim or go out on lake it was pretty crowded to do so. We were able to use the neighboring dock, but was a bit aways for watching kids. A dock on site would have been a huge difference for us! The inside was very nice and well equipped with everything you could think of! Loved the knotty pine! The porch is GREAT! Awesome trees & Nature!

Another good time at Guthrie Pines

  • 4 of 5

This was a return visit which should tell you something--it was worth coming back to! The cottage is a real home with all the kitchen supplies you can imagine, not to mention books, games, DVDs, and other home amenities. Last time a large group of us came, this year only 4 quiet adults. It was lovely to sit on the porch or in the yard. One of our group loved to make fires in the beach fire pit. The military noise was interesting and not disturbing to the 4 who were here this year. (Last time some didn't like it.) I recommend Guthrie Pines if you like a homey, comfortable place to hang out with privacy from neighbors yet with a great view of the lake activity. This year a lot of pontoons were out pulling people on tubes or skis.

Much needed peace and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Guthrie Pines. It was incredibly peaceful during our stay. One day was rainy and we spent it watching movies

from the large selection they have on hand. We brought our canoe and had some wonderful rides in it on the lake. It's a lovely home

built with love. The kitchen is furnished with all the equipment one needs to prepare a meal and there is plenty of seating for a large group.

We also enjoyed campfires near the lake and warmth from the fireplace at night. It was very nice to be so close to the lake and to be able

to look outdoors at the beautiful view. Thank you again for sharing your home we enjoyed it very much!

Perfect vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our group of 8, ranging from 5 years old to 65 years old! Everyone had enough space (even the three teenagers) and we didn't see any neighbors unless they were going past on their boats. Everything we needed to cook, clean and enjoy ourselves was available. The screened porch is a perfect place for early morning coffee while listening to and watching the loons. The lake is amazingly clear out to at least 12 feet deep, was warm enough to swim and there was never a problem catching fish! The beach area by the lake is a little small, but we were able to set up a place for a volleyball net in the sand by the house with enough space left for the 5 year old to play with buckets and shovels. We did not have any problems. No one was ready to leave at the end of our vacation. We hope to return next year.

You deserve more than 5 stars!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in august and were so amazed by how beautiful the home was. The location, size of home, and equipment was great! The house is loaded with everything you could possibly need giving it a comforting feeling. the rooms are nice and big. We were a family of 7 adults and slept comfortably. The view of the lake is breathtaking and the bonfire pit was great for night time fun. The water is clean and good for swimming. The house is nicely sized and clean. The location of the house is amazing! There is total privacy since there are no homes nearby besides Bob's which we never seen. The caretaker is easy to reach and super friendly. Linda was also easy to reach and was always very sweet. As for the a/c, its true there isnt a/c, but it is never needed since there is a cool night breeze. We spent alot of our time in the sunroom since it had a breathtaking view and many couches and a table with chairs. I loved that there were many movies and puzzles to spend some quality time with the family. The only bad part was that we had to leave! But, we will definately be back next summer for some more family memories!

Guthrie Lake review

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 10 mostly unrelated adults who came and went over a 2 week period. The cottage is nicely situated away from the other lake cottages. We felt we had total privacy and really enjoyed feeling isolated yet close to civilization. One of our group brought 2 kayaks which were really fun to use on Guthrie Lake and the adjacent lake which is only accessible with very shallow boats (at least when we were there). The lake is very clear and inviting (if you like lake swimming). We did rent the canoe for a week but a few days of rain made this not a very smart purchase. The cottage is comfortable and is clearly someone's home with all the knick knacks, homemade wall decor, and well-stocked kitchen. Books, DVDs, games, and multiple card decks made indoor entertainment easy. We liked to sit on the little beach, had a few night time campfires, and enjoyed dinner meals together. The screened-in porch was nice for shade and the lake was easily viewed from there. There was plenty of room for sitting and eating together. However, we were cramped bed-wise. Being mostly unrelated adults, the 3 bedrooms slept only 3 or 4 people at one time. The sofa bed was not easily used since a heavy dining room table was in the way of opening it out. The porch sleeping was not comfortable for some of our group. So a tent and a camper were used as beds for a couple of people. Even though the website says there is room to sleep 6-12 or more, this is really stretching it! I'm not sure where the queen size blow up mattress would fit on the floor, either... A couple of us rented bikes from a bicycle shop in Gaylord and rode up the very nice trail that goes north from Gaylord to Mackinaw City. We were happy to have internet but the cell phone coverage was sketchy and we had to walk to the road or to the beach sometimes to get reception. Finally, the sometimes constant noise from the artillery base nearby was bothersome to some of our group. Others found it interesting to have the windows shake and to see flares and hear firecraker-like sounds during the night, but to others it was disturbing. Somehow it didn't go with the tranquility of the lake. If you like jets, helicopters, and sounds of (fake) bombs and guns, you will find this aspect of Guthrie Pines memorable.

Owner's Response: Hello, Thanks so much for your thoughts on this review. The hide-a-bed in the living room is easy to access just by wheeling the table over towards the piano. It is an antique oak table, but the wheels make it pretty easy to move. Sorry you found it too cramped. The caretaker would have been glad to show you how to pull out the davenport on the porch. Thanks again for staying and I hope you have some good memories to take with you! :) Sorry it rained! Hard for us to do much about that but be thankful!

National Guard Artillery range a mile to the East. You may experience the noise of artillery practice, jet or helicopter fly-bys, or flares in the night which light the lake. There is not a danger to the inhabitants of the lake area. The range firing is NOT a continual racket but an occasional noise which may be bothersome to a few. Remember they are the sounds of Freedom! This activity does not bother the fish-they have lived with it for years and there is great fishing still.
