About Steve Wood
Glenda and I were both raised in West Texas. We joined the corporate world and made our way through Pueblo, Co; Midland, TX; then on to the Austin area where we both recently retired. Through many a visit, we found Fredericksburg an oasis of good, ole fashioned, small town living in the heart of our beloved Texas. We had often thought of owning a small B&B as it seems we always had people at our home with Glenda feeding the neighborhood. Sharing Glenda’s creative and fantastic cooking with our guests just seemed to be the natural progression of our lives. Getting back closer to nature, raising chickens, enjoying “the farm”, having deer and longhorns for neighbors, and hosting our two quaint cabins has become a dream come true for both of us. We hope you come visit and enjoy our Cabins Out Back as much as we do.
Steve Wood purchased this Cabin in 2017
Why Steve Wood chose Fredericksburg
The Cabins Out Back are the consummate get-away location. Near to downtown, but far enough out to truly be in the country. The Stars at Night are Big and Bright, Deep in the Heart of Texas! This certainly rings true at the Nest and the Roost where the dark skies, wide open places, and quite pastures resonate peace and tranquility. Come join us for a restful weekend, great breakfast, and fun visit to Fredericksburg in the hill country.

Had a wonderful weekend, it was so relaxing. The breakfast was AMAZING!! Will for sure be back. The owners are wonderful people.
A cozy cabin, hosted by Steve and Glenda who made us feel like we were old friends.
We had hoped for a quiet getaway away from the city. The Roost was everything we had hoped it would be. The cabin with its tasteful decor, the wonderful breakfasts brought to our door every morning, the chickens who not only provided eggs for those wonderful breakfasts but made us laugh at their antics and watching the deer who visited the feeder made our country stay memorial. Special thanks to Steve and Glenda for being wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome.
Texas Charm at its Best! Serene and Peaceful!
Steve and Glenda are amazing hosts. The Roost was perfect for us and will remain a highlight of our trip! Each morning a 5- Star Breakfast was delivered to our door. The Fredericksburg area offers so many options from hiking to shopping...and we partook in both! I would highly recommend The Cabins Outback!
Cozy and Peaceful
I stayed here for the weekend with my friends. It was exactly what we needed to get away from the city and our busy lives. Steve and Glenda were such great host. We enjoyed their hospitality, and their home cooked breakfast was delicious. We look forward for many more visits!
We loved the cabins, the chickens & the breakfasts. The owners are very friendly & let my daughter feed the chickens. The cabin was a nice space for a couple & 1 child. The breakfasts are amazing with fresh squeezed orange juice & their chicken eggs. We were lucky enough to have their angel biscuits 2 times during our 4 night stay. #musthavebiscuits
A Wonderful Recharge
Spent 2 nights in our wonderful cabin, The Roost, at the Cabins Out Back. The location was perfect—out a ways from Fredericksburg in the peace and quiet of the country. We saw deer, plenty of birds, and of course, the owners’ free-roaming chickens that greeted us each morning. It was a short drive to town, and we appreciated not being in the middle of traffic and humanity during Spring Break. Steve and Glenda greeted us and quickly showed us our cabin which was both cozy and comfortable. My 15 year old son loved the loft for sleeping and reading. We both loved the screened back porch where we ate our AMAZING home-made breakfasts: French toast, fresh eggs, freshly-squeezed orange juice, biscuits, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and more. The cabin had a Keurig and a selection of coffees. The small kitchen had all we needed but know that there is not a stove. Visit Fredericksburg for your other meals. The cabin also contains a comfy sitting room with leather couch and chair for reading/visiting and bath with shower. The downstairs bed is a king (comfortable) and a flat screen television. My son and I spent our time just hanging—on the porches, watching the wildlife, or reading. I highly recommended Cabins Out Back if you enjoy peace, quiet, and delicious breakfasts.
Fredericksburg, Texas always has something going on in town. We have a Christmas Parade that is huge and it is at night!...Have to see it to believe it when you have live longhorn steers with lights on their horns being ridden down Main Street in December. A favorite with lots of visitors is the winery tours, many folks opt to let someone else do the driving while they sit back and enjoy the day. Did you know that the Fredericksburg area is second in wineries only to Napa Valley, California? If you like the outdoors and an occasional hike up a solid granite dome check out Enchanted Rock Park, beautiful views and a nice way to spend a day...only 17 miles from our cabins north on Hwy. 16. Our two cabins are on the back of our property and we are only 5 miles from downtown FBG, so you can enjoy the activities in town or in the surrounding areas and come back home and enjoy the peace and quiet of 'The Cabins Out Back'.
