We live in beautiful, chaotic San Francisco; love to travel; enjoy living life on a whim; and are in perpetual awe of those who can live life bigger and better. The name of the home is Kenya's Kastle, in honor of our beautiful dog adopted from the Healdsburg Shelter who liked to patrol the porch, day and night, like a vigilante, protecting us from the deer and occasional fox.
When we're here, we like to sip our wine while taking in the views from a rocker. Sometimes, on those brisk summer mornings, when the fog is floating in the valley below, we have our morning coffee upstairs on the porch that's just off the master bedroom. And on summer nights, we always eat outside, with candles lit, Chopin in the background, and my husband on the grill.
We hope to rent our home to caring, loving people who are considerate of their neighbors and treat our home as we would.
Marisol Schowengerdt purchased this house in 2006
I fell in love with this home because the living room, dining room and Kitchen are one big rectangle with high ceilings, and it's all hugged by the gorgeous porch and views. I love to cook and host and this home is perfect for those who love to spend an evening with friends enjoying the great things in life-- as you can see, I am in love with this home. We lived here for close to six years and loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, the commuting back and forth from San Francisco eventually took its toll. We now live in the city, but we love this home and feel lucky to be able to continue to enjoy it. As travelers, we too rent vacation homes from time to time and have had both positive and negative experiences. Our main goal was to ensure that everything in the home was of excellent quality and that it left our guests with a positive experience, and hopefully we have succeeded in this. from the knives to the washer and dryer, we want our guests to enjoy a quality stay. We know we won't get it ALL perfect, but we will continue to try.
The home exudes a serenity that is soothing from the instant one turns up the private drive. An inviting, generous porch greets you with six rocking chairs lined up along the length of the home, inviting you to take a moment and relax. On occasion, a family of deer will sit below the porch for the guests to enjoy (this is primarily why we institute the no pet policy, we want nature to trespass without intimidation), or a fox will scurry across, hoping it hasn't been spotted. The home is set back from the street, on a hill, enhancing the view. Even though Kenya's Kastle is only 2.1 miles from downtown, it is private, surrounded by lush trees and vineyards in the distance, and very accessible. Cyclists and foodies will love it here. The home's main living space is perfect for for enjoying the wine country. Windows line the second floor, which holds the living room, kitchen, bedroom half-bathroom and porch.
Marisol and David are really awesome and reliable owners and you can tell they love their home. This property is really a hidden charming gem with best views. We stayed for whole month and I can honestly tell you that if you are looking for relaxing peaceful place to stay during your wine tasting, biking or whatever you are looking for to do in Healdsburg this home is the perfect place. It has everything you will need and more. Can't wait to be back..
This was our 2nd stay. When we left last summer we couldn't wait to go back. The property is gorgeous, up on the mountain with beautiful views of the vineyards down below. Sipping wine in the rocking chair while watching the sunset can't be beat. I strongly recommend it.
We stayed for about 6 weeks. The house is as advertised. A million dollar view, big kitchen, quiet neighborhood. Can't wait to go back next year.
This house is beautiful, comfortable, well-outfitted, and very much has the feeling of a home. We were lucky enough to stay for several months and enjoy Fitch Mountain, the gorgeous views from the deck, and family walks on the residential hills behind. The owners are very responsive, professional, caring and helpful.
The property is very nice and well maintained. It was roomy enough for two couples to spend a month without being on top of each other. It was stocked with about everything you would need to make meals, and the gas grill on the wrap around porch was put to good use. That porch was a nice evening retreat to recover from the tough schedule of tourist-ing and wine tasting. The large wooded lot was a peaceful retreat and the view of the river valley and mountain beyond it was just beautiful. Everything in the home is accurately depicted in the descriptions and pictures. Bedrooms were well appointed and very comfortable. The owners were great to work with and were always very responsive to any questions we had.
We found this was a good base camp for visiting San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Napa Valley, Sonoma, Sebastopol, Lake Sonoma, Muir Woods, Mt. Tam and the coast. There are so many wineries in and around Healdsburg it's ridiculous. We stayed for a month and never had trouble finding something fun to do.
My parents stayed at this home for 2 months and had a wonderful time. The home was extremely conveniently located in the hills of Healdsburg and had great views of Sonoma hills from the porch. The owner is extremely responsive as well, which made the experience even more pleasurable.
Healdsburg is the premier wine country for the well heeled. It is host to world renowned wineries, beautiful cycling paths and walking paths. The restaurants are superb and there are plenty to choose from. Big John's grocery store is located within town and it caters to the gourmet chef in all of us. Healdsburg is an adorable town with plenty of charm and romance. it's beautiful when the leaves fall and when the trees are in full bloom. It's romantic, inspiring, and absolutely beautiful. A perfect get away for a romantic weekend or a family gathering.
