About Deerview

I retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2009. I worked as an Air Traffic Controller in seven different FAA facilities, including my home town of Providence, Rhode Island. I love pets, especially dogs, with cats being a close second. It's hard for me to pass by someone walking their dog in my neighborhood without stopping to pet them or scratch their ears (the dog - not the owner). One of my daughters has a cat, who I love to have lay on my lap, and purr while I'm brushing him.

We are the original owners of this house at Wintergreen and have been enjoying the mountain since 1984. It may not be as fancy as some of the houses on the mountain, but the kids, grandchildren, and our pets are always comfortable and have a good time.

Nice, comfortable & affordable!

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable & roomy enough for 7 adults (grown kids) and 1 grandchild. Plenty of seating and room to hang out all in the same area. Was rainy & cold weekend (hurricane on the coast) but Marcus emailed us suggesting we use the fireplace. And left us enough for a fire to take the dampness & chill out of the air (although the heat worked good)! Great idea, we used it each evening. We did buy some more firewood while we were out. And never ran out of hot water (an issue elsewhere with that many adults) Had a great weekend. Checked out Oktoberfest in Staunton, Crozet Art Festival. Home had everything we needed and was a short beautiful ride with a lot to see and do. Next time, weather permitting, I hope we can make use of the deck! Thank you Marcus

Perfect Getaway - Kids already planning our return

  • 5 of 5

This home was in a great location and had everything we needed. My children enjoyed the home so much that they are already talking about wanting to come back for a full week in the summer. There are plenty of activities around the resort and close by.

Everything at the house was as expected. We were two small families (4 adults and 2 kids). The home had plenty of space and the karaoke machine was a definite hit. The kids also loved roaming the woods and "adventuring". It was a great location near hikes, breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Thanks Marcus!! We had a great time.

Great Value and clean nice place!

  • 5 of 5

The house is just like the description and the pictures, Marcus took time out of his vacation to make sure mine was as expected. He has the house stocked, with everything for a couples or families. PS3 for kids A/C , washer/dryer, and much more ! I knew it was a winter ski resort, but I went at the right time! So much going on in Nelson County, I did zip lines and tubing on the mountain, went to the lake to swim and fish with our dogs. They have many micro-breweries and hard cider places, and a huge music festival about 25 miles away on the Oak Ridge Farm. The house was a great summer get away for my family. I have already recommended this place to friends and family

Super comfortable and great location!

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for our family of four. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the house - both of my teenage children have already asked to return! There was more than enough room for the four of us and has all the comforts of home. The beds and furniture are very comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well stocked and the linens were of good quality. The washer and dryer came in handy and were very efficient. We arrived after dark and felt like we were all alone in the wilderness - imagine our surprise when the sun came up to discover houses right next door! This location has all the feel of a remote house, but is just about a mile from the Inn and all the activities on the mountain. We literally could not find anything negative about the house and will definitely return for future Wintergreen vacations. Marcus was an absolute pleasure, always very quick to respond and address every detail. I have no doubt that if there had been a problem with the house, he would have addressed it promptly, but as I said, we could not find a single issue. He provides an information book with loads of useful info about the resort and other nearby activities and a handy checklist of check-out/cleaning requirements (which were very minimal.) I would definitely recommend this property to anyone and look forward to booking our next visit!

Property in disrepair

  • 2 of 5

We found the letter about leaving everything the way we found it funny, Because there were dishes in the dishwasher so we didn't use it the toaster was gross so we didn't use it. We did however clean up some dust sweep the floors and clean bathrooms. Although it was not filthy I think the cleaning crew needs to be replaced and the whole place needs remodeled and updated. with that said we had a very good time .

Owner's Response: As you would expect from any property owner who rents, it is very disappointing to receive a review like this. Let me reply to all concerns noted: First - the title "Property in Disrepair". Look at the pictures - they represent what you will see when you arrive. I admit there are some repairs that need to be done (specifically molding around doors and windows), but they are not showstoppers. I have already started replacement of the windows and expect to be finished by the end of summer. The molding will be replaced along with the windows. Everything in the house is operational - nothing is broken. Second: Dishes in the dishwasher. Yes, I did see them there when I cleaned up, but I forgot to take them out before I left. There were two plates and a couple of wine glasses. THEY WERE CLEAN! I just forgot to put them in the cabinet before leaving. Third: Toaster? It was sitting on the counter top (see picture of kitchen). I looked at it and do agree it should be replaced. Sometimes I need items like this called to my attention by my guests - I missed it and I apologize. The toaster has been replaced. Fourth: Dust and sweep. I cleaned the house myself, as I didn't have enough time to schedule my regular housekeeper to come in due to a quick turnaround. I did the best I could, but perhaps I missed something - I apologize. I contacted the guest after I read the review and asked why I wasn't notified. I would have had someone go to the house and take care of this. Her reply was that she did not want someone in the house she didn't know. Fifth: Bathrooms. I cleaned them myself. This included sinks, toilet, floors, mirrors and tub. They looked fine to me. This past ski season, I had some water damage and had to replace the vanity. I did so, but I had to make a temporary repair (behind the toilet). Perhaps this annoyed this guest. I am scheduling the downstairs bathroom to be remodeled, but until that is done, the photo you see is exactly how it looks. Again, if not satisfied, a call would have taken care of this. I will address all issues and make sure these items are corrected. I am puzzled however, by the last statement: "we had a very good time" ????? Finally: since I did the cleaning myself - "Marcus, YOU'RE FIRED!"
