Built in the 1860's and opened as a guesthouse in 1993, this popular accommodation represents the true Texas Hill Country experience. Only 7 minutes from downtown Fredericksburg. Enjoy lounging on the front porch and watching the moon and stars in the clear night air. Deer and wild turkey abound on this oak-covered 160 acres. Swing in the front yard under a century old beautiful live oak tree. Rustic antique furniture and memorabilia decorate the entire living area. History, romance, and relaxation are all awaiting you at Morning Star Guesthouse.
I honestly don't normally write negative reviews unless we have just a really bad experience. Unfortunately that is what we had at Morning Star Guest House. First of all, if anyone has a bad dust allergy, do not stay here! My sister and I couldn't breath all weekend! It doesn't look like the place has been dusted in years. We took pictures to show. Along the floor boards, the furniture and even the couch was so dusty and dirty.
We planned this trip for my moms 74th birthday and let me say that this will be memorable trip and not in a good way. When we first arrived, there was cow poop everywhere in front of the house. The house is tiny...nothing like the pictures portray. The rugs have stains on them, there was leftover beer and half bottle of wine in the fridge with a wine stain in the fridge. The back door doesn't close completely and kept opening. The upstairs bedroom is terrible. My sister bummed her head on the 3ft door to enter. You literally have to bend down to get into the room. The room was very hot. There is a fan but you cannot control the temperature. Also, if you have to go the bathroom in the middle of the night you have to walk outside, go downstairs and walk into the main house. This cabin is not for more than 2 people. Needless to say we were very disappointed. We did ask for a discount on our stay but the owner said no. If you don't care about cleanliness and want to really rough it then this place is for you.
We completely enjoyed our stay at the Morning Star Ranch! It was exactly what we needed. Peaceful and relaxing. Everything we needed to enjoy our time there. And the view from the front porch while enjoying coffee was the best part. We definitely will be visiting again!
Morning Star Ranch is a perfect getaway. Rustic in all of the ways that make it charming but with the comforts you would want and expect. The solitude and surroundings make it a perfect getaway to recharge and I love the history of the house. It was great seeing and hearing the cows, deer, and turkey and it really allowed me to sense how life in the 1800's would have been with your cattle, gardens, and everything that made up your life, literally right out of your back door. Mornings on the porch, listening to the quiet and seeing the beautiful sunrise over the pasture and hills was dreamy.
If you love history and the charm of how settlers lived, you'll love everything about this house.
We couldn't have been more pleased with the cabin and the location. Very private in the country but close enough to Fredericksburg.
The security was good and the facilities worked. Even though we had thunderstorms off-and-on, the low-water crossing on the road never prevented us from coming and going.
My newly wed wife and myself spent the better part of a week at this cabin and loved it! The scenery was great! We loved the cabin and how it was set up! In the evening we enjoyed watching the deer and cows at they grazed out in the fields! All in all it wouldn't take much for the two of us to get use to that life style! If you love a country setting and living simple this is the place!
Beautiful property and perfect location. Me and my wife loved siting on the porch relaxing and spotting deer, it's so great to get out of the city and hear quiet. Loved how close it was to Fredericksburg downtown. A/C worked great. Our only complaints are that we never got to see upstairs room despite notifying owner via email about how to get up there as key did not work, the grounds around bench swing were very unkept and needed a good mowing, and the wifi wasn't really working at all. Would still stay there again though.
