About Tim O'Donoghue
Bernadette and Tim O’Donoghue met in The Windy City of Chicago a few years back. We acquired the property in 2002. We then returned from Chicago in 2004. Bernadette was a paralegal secretary and is now a stay at home Mom and an excellent baker, I am an electrician by trade but got into construction during my 14 years in Chicago. I restored several old houses and classic vintage apartment buildings during my time there. I coupled this experience with Bernadette’s keen eye and interior design savvy to create some wonderful finishes and unusual touches. We began the colossal rehab project in 2004 to restore the Priory to its former glory , it was basically completed it in 2007 or is it ever complete I like to ask myself ? We pride ourselves in welcoming you into our place.
Tim O'Donoghue purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Tim O'Donoghue chose Woodlawn
I grew up in Killarney, where my parents owned a camping site and I truly loved meeting visitors on a daily basis. We have 4 children and we wanted to raise them here in Ireland, so we said we would give it a shot and here we are. When this property became available we realized how unique it was and what a fantastic opportunity it would be to own The Priory.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are in a key location, a ten minute walk from town but it feels like we are in the heart of the countryside where you cannot hear a sound by night. You will get a quiet private house to yourself where you can come and go as you please. You can cook when you want and have the full use of the 1.5 acre property on private grounds. You can sit back and relax in the front of the stove fire sipping a nice Irish whiskey or reading a good book with the sweet smell of turf burning away. You will get the real feel of Irish living and live like we live ourselves while visiting in your home away from home. We are on site owners who are here to help you in any way you require and assure a wonderful stay. We have invaluable knowledge about the local area from cultural information to hikes, local food joints to off the beaten track drives. We can organize in-house chef, or poetry recital or to a music session. We like to tell our guests ''We are as near or as far as you wish.'

Very Clean close to town. We enjoyed the cozy cottage with the ease of fixing meals in as we wanted
Very friendly and accommodating proprietors comfortable and home like feeling.
We would definitely stay there again.
Lovely comfortable cottage in beautiful setting
We loved this cottage in Killarney. Its setting in a beautiful courtyard, part of the old priory was quiet and peaceful, whilst only a 15 minute walk from the centre of the town. The owners were friendly and welcoming.
The cottage had all the home comforts you might need, including a log burner which we had to use despite it being August!
The only negative we found, was a 'mustiness' in the cottage, possibly due to lots of wet weather!
Lovely place, near perfect
The house is an ancient stone structure built for friars. Nothing about the amenities isancient, however. Everything is new and up to date and well maintained.
The owner was very accommodating to two us two jet lagged, sleep deprived people. Later after we were more functional he continued to be helpful by being able to contact local tour providers, taxis etc who he new personally. There is no question that we will go back
This place was amazing! It had all the comforts we could have wanted and was so close to everything. The walk into town was lovely as well as the walk to many of the sights. We would absolutely stay there again and/or recommend it to others!
The Priory in Kilarney is Awesome
I was privileged to spend almost 3 months at the Priory in Killarney. Tim and Bernadette were wonderful hosts. The Ladies responsible for maintaining the cottage were equally wonderful. The location is great, close to town for biking and driving to the awesome sites of County Kerry, especially the Killarney National Park, Dingle and the Ring of Kerry. I would definitely stay at the Priory again.
Perfect cottage for two!
Our family stumbled upon the O'Donohue's Priory property when we booked lodging for 4 in fall of '14 to scout for our planned August '15 family reunion - what we found was the PERFECT location for our group of 25 - and now we have memories for a lifetime! Last week at the Priory was a dream come true.
There are several "cottages" around a picturesque courtyard all located on a quiet, private property. Each cottage affords ample privacy for independent travelers...but in our case...it provided the IDEAL location for all of us to be together. This was the trip of a lifetime for our family and we would HIGHLY recommend the Priory to groups of any size.
This cottage was "home" for our parents/grandparents. The one level accommodations were perfect for them; and the ample yet cozy space was perfect for visits every day. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom is modern and has a great shower. The bedding was high quality and very comfortable. This cottage is private yet situated just off the courtyard so it was easy to visit the other cottages.
The overall location is perfect...close (easy walk) to town but quiet and secluded. There is ample parking on site and cabbies arrive within minutes for adventures farther away. We arranged for 2 all-days bus trips to the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula; explored the National Forest; biked the lake; hiked up Torc mountain; and walked all over town! Our grand finale was a night at the Killarney Brewing Company - complete with supper, GREAT beer (what I wouldn't give for a Devil's Helles Lager right now) and two balladeers that entertained us for hours. Be sure to visit KBC!
Our hosts were knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and more accommodating than we ever could have imagined. Please give the Tim, Bernadette and all of the O'Donohues (including Mazie and Oscar!) our best when you get there!
So if you are interested in hiking, biking, golfing, shopping or want to take a cooking class all this can be arranged. Killarney town centre is 1 km or a 10 minute stroll, in the opposite direction over the river you are immediately upon a pedestrian way snaking its way 2km into Killarney's 11,000 acre National Park, Muckross House & Gardens.
Killarney Brewing Co. is open. It is a 7 minute walk on the Muckross Road from the cottage. Tours daily.
