About Robert and Heidrun I am a teacher and I have a BA degree in Icelandic literature. My husband Robert works as a Pilot in Europe and has a BS degree in business administration. We have three Amazing boys This house is what we have been searching for the purpose of total relaxation and the house has everything a home needs. Now it is our summerhouse and we love staying there, both in the summer and winter time. We offer others to stay in our house and enjoy all it has to offer.
Heidrun purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Heidrun chose Borgarnes
We wanted to have a nice holiday home where we could relax and recharge the batteries.. and that´s precisely what we succeeded. Also the short distance to Borgarnes (swimming pool, gym and everything else) and to the Capital, Reykjavík. For us, this place is heaven on earth.
What makes this Cottage unique
Peacefulness - You can sit outside or walk around the house on the large patio and enjoy the nature and the amazing mountain view in the peaceful surroundings. High Standard and modern – All the equipment in the house is high standard and you should find everything you need and more. The open space and the large windows give you the feeling that you are out in the nature even when you are inside. Location - The location of the house is ideal for exploring the west side of Iceland. There are short driving distances to many beautiful places in the nature such as waterfalls and craters. Museums and historical places are also nearby. There is only a 15 minutes drive to the nearest town, Borgarnes, where you can find for example a swimming pool, golf course, shops, bakery, restaurants, library and health care.

Tranquility! The house was warm all the time, comfy beds and------ lots of snow. Spacious, marvellous large windows so full of light .Northern lights? Well a faint curtain of palest green light as activity was low.
Made use of the hot tub. A separate toilet would be an improvement when there are 7 in the house but our only criticism Massive towels Wonderful stay
Beautiful villa, with everything you need.
Amazing family get away. Wonderful, fully equipped houses. Experienced amazing northern lights 2 of the nights. Excellent communication from owner. Top marks, would love to stay again.
Perfect for our 14 family members!
The 2 houses allowed our family of 14 to be together yet sleep comfortably. Cooking for the group was easy in the well-stocked kitchen (and the coffee maker was awesome and used incessantly!). Heidi was so accommodating for the baby providing a crib, highchair and toys! The homes were everything we expected and the hot tubs were a wonderful end to our adventurous days. It was a perfect location for, us to see the golden circle or Snaefellsness National Park. Groceries, gas and restaurants were 10 minutes away and we loved the secluded, quiet feeling of the houses.
We would absolutely stay here again! It was perfect for our large family.
Perfect house for larger group
We rented the house and guest house property in early June for an extended weekend. We re a group of 14 and it was a perfect fit. The surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for just taking a short hike. Great river is a short walk away. It is a short drive 10-15 minutes to the nearby town of Borgones to pick up groceries. House was in perfect working order (Clean, modern, updated) and easy to get to if using your GPS.
We had a fabulous 4 nights renting both properties as a three generation family celebrating a special birthday. The lovely long table in the main house allowed us all to eat together every evening. The houses are fully equipped, even down to toys for the little ones and, as our stay coincided with Easter, a bowl full of chocolate eggs. Snow on our arrival made it magical and the hot tubs were appreciated after a hard day's sightseeing, especially when the Northern Lights made an appearance. We would love to return, perhaps trying one of your other properties. Thanks .....
Beautiful property and very well equipped.
This was a perfect place to stay for our 2 families of 5. Our 2 groups were all adults and the younger 20somethings all stayed in the cozy cabin but joined us in the main house for meals and socialising. There was plenty of room and we thoroughly enjoyed cooking, hot tub and socialising there. The path between the main house and cabin was extremely slippy. There are puzzles and games and a DVD player with a small selection of films. All in all the properties and location exceeded all our expectations and we would definitely recommend for a short or long stay. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive both before our stay and during. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable holiday. The Bole’s, Harlow’s and Taylor’s from near London, UK.
The house is located along the spectacular Salmon River, Langá, one of the greatest salmon rivers in Europe. There are walking paths from the house, where you can enjoy the peaceful nature and walk by the river. If you are staying in the late summer or autumn you will find blueberries growing near the river. You are welcome to pluck them, it´s delicious.
The house is a about a one hour drive north from the Reykjavík Capital and about 10 minutes from Borgarnes. In Borgarnes you can enjoy one of the nicest swimming pools in Iceland, play golf at Hamarsvöllur, visit the great Settlement center where you can learn about the Icelandic culture and saga and shop at the Bonus grocery store. In Borgarnes you will find the interesting Farmers market, Ljómalind, which sells food and products made in the area.
In the north direction, about one hour driving, you will find the old fishermen´s town Stykkishólmur, where you can go sailing, Whale Watching and enjoy Bird Watching paradise. In Stykkishólmur you can visit interesting museums like the Water museum and the Volcano museum. On the way to Stykkishólmur you will find the crater Eldborg which is an interesting natural phenomenon with lava all around.
Close to Stykkishòlmur, you'll find the great Snæfellsnes National Park. It was voted one of **Iceland Top Five** to visit. There you can enjoy Snæfellsjökull, and its magical and remarkable nature. On the way from Stykkishólmur to the National Park you will drive through a small town called Grundarfjörður. There is one of the most beautiful mountains in Iceland, called Kirkjufell. Drive on and you will find plenty of interesting places worth visiting, like Djúpalónssandur a beautiful pebbled beach, Vatnshellir Cave and the popular hiking trail by the cliff beach between Hellnar and Arnarstapi.
The beautiful Borgarfjörður area is close by Helluskógur. In Borgarfjörður you can find many interesting places to visit. The largest thermal spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver, is located near a small town called Kleppjárnsreykir and is about 40 minutes drive from Borgarnes. Close by Deildartunguhver is the historical place Reykholt. There you can find Snorrastofa which we recommend visiting if you are interesting in Icelandic Saga. If you drive on from Reykholt towards Húsafell you will see the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, which are absolutely worth a visit. From Húsafell you can go on a tour into the glacier Langjökull, one of Europe’s largest glacier. Amazing! There are horse rentals in Borgarfjörður if you are interested in the Icelandic Horse and would like to go on a riding trip.
You can say about the location of the house that it is midway between the two great National Parks, Snæfellsnes and Þingvellir. Þingvellir is located on the Golden Circle and is a popular tourist destination. Þingvellir is a place of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It is the site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is also home to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. On the Golden Circle you can also visit the great waterfall Gullfoss and the hot spring Geysir.
