The guest house has a small kitchen, wood burning stove and 3 bedrooms to comfortably sleep 6. There are 2 bathrooms and a laundry room. Central heat and air conditioning keep guests comfortable year round.
The beautiful landscaping is expertly maintained. A very large lawn extends down to the water's edge and provides ample room for events, games, camping, or just lounging. A dock with boats and paddle boards for fishing, rowing, or romantic tours of the lake await. There is a large stone patio with gas BBQ overlooking the backyard and lake and a swimming pool for the summer season and a hot tub for year round relaxation.
Fire pit with plenty of seating and firewood is included.
The property is very quiet and private. It is perfect for those looking to unwind while sipping wine on the dock or patio watching the beautiful sunsets and wildlife. It’s also ideal for families and corporate events and for those wanting to access all the outdoor recreation Nevada County has to offer.
The center of recreation on the ranch is our lakes. Fly or spin cast fishing for largemouth bass on either the main lake or the more secluded pond on the lower property can be thrilling. Main lake fishing from boat, shore, dock, or float tube provide opportunities for beginning to expert fisherman. Pond fishing is best suited for float tube fisherman interested in trophy fly fishing for bass. Spin cast and fly fishing lessons are available from Ed, the property manager ((530) 268-2114). He is also available to guide fishing on the property for beginners to experts who want to know the hot fishing spots and best fishing methods on the lake and pond.
Walking trails, seasonal blackberry picking and bird watching are also just out the back door for those interested in other outdoor activities on the ranch.
There is no hunting on the ranch but we do have a 100 yd shooting range for gun and archery enthusiasts.
Nevada County is well known for its mountain and road biking options and has been a part of the Tour of California professional tour for several years.
Small wineries abound in the area. One of the best known is Naggiar Vineyards, http://naggiarvineyards.com/ which is only a few minutes from the ranch. They offer free music and dancing in a beautiful outdoor venue on Friday and Saturday nights. Small dishes of tasty food are available along with wine tasting. Wine tours are a great way to see the county and try other local wines.
Numerous local breweries offer beer tasting opportunities.
For other local events, restaurants, and things to see and do
Starbucks, El Agave Mexican Restaurant, Round Table Pizza, Northridge Pizza, CVS Pharmacy, Holiday Market and a Chevron station are all less than 20 minutes from the ranch (if you drive like my wife). Full sized grocery stores and numerous other restaurants and shopping are 30 minutes away in either Auburn or Grass Valley/Nevada City.
Assistance is only a phone call away. Ed, the property manager, lives adjacent to the ranch and is available 24 hours during your stay.
The property is owned by Dr. Jay Betz and his wife Joy, a music teacher. They live primarily in Reno, NV where they own a medical practice but spend as much time as possible at the ranch when not booked for guests.
Ed Dunkin purchased this estate in 1995
The land was purchased for its beauty, water, and privacy to raise their 2 girls. The house was 3 years in design and took over a year to construct and is designed so nearly every room has a view of the lake.
Guest often comment that the home is the most inspiring, nicest home they have visited.
We had an absolutely magical weekend and wedding here. Equally appreciated was how pleasant and easy Ed made the whole process, from initial contact, to multiple site visits, to strategizing logistics like parking, hanging driving/ directional signs, outdoor lighting, porta potty delivery (the nice ones with marble counters and music of course!) and even clean up, for which Ed went far far far above and beyond any imaginable expectations. As we were preparing to leave after 3 amazing nights on site, I overheard that there had been a little snafu with the plumbing, and was extremely impressed that Ed had been so on top of it, that I didn't know of an issue until after it was fixed. Not only is this property gorgeous, peaceful, sprawling, elegant, beautifully maintained, and FUN with numerous activities to pass very pleasant days, and not only did we receive oodles of compliments on how stunning our wedding venue was, but several people commented on how Ed himself was the best part of the wedding weekend! He is not only exceptional in his role at the Ranch, but he is someone that we are now proud to call a friend, and will most definitely go back to stay, as well as to just hang out with Ed! And, the owners of the property even left us a congratulatory wedding card! The attention to detail, guest comfort and ethical approach to running the property is unmatched.
Regarding amenities, my mom went up to the property the day before any of us and was very warmly welcomed and felt safe and comfortable in the house by herself. We had 25 people staying on site all weekend, with multiple wedding related events that ranged in size from the initial 25- 135. The kitchen in the main house is a chefs dream, and our cateror was very comfortable preparing to feed 135 people from the kitchen. The walls are thick and sound was not a problem at all. The house is kept at a very comfortable temperature. There were no bugs. The boats were fun and easily accessible. The pool and hot tub were ideal temperature and our eyes didn't sting from chlorine. The lake is cooler than the pool, so the option in temperature was great. We had a BLAST swimming in the lake, stand up paddle boarding, and boating, and my now husband and I jumped in right before our ceremony and enjoyed a few minutes of quiet before the festivities started.
This venue was THE BEST decision we made in reference to our wedding, and we will be forever grateful that we got married in such a magical place!
We had our wedding at the ranch! The house and property are beautiful and perfectly set up for optimal comfort and an endless amount of fun activities. Ed, the property manager, was incredibly helpful and kind to us and all our guests . It's been a little over a month now since we got married at the ranch and we are still hearing from our guests about how great they thought Ed was. We wish the vacation never had to end. Thank you so much Ed! - Sarah and Fred
This is my second stay at Betz Ranch and still love this place even more.Ed who taking care of the ranch is always kind and helpful and my friends and family really enjoyed all the activities this place has to offer like hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, picking lots of organic apple and pear, and eating outdoor near the pool. The kids did not want to go home and they never ask for internet to play games they used to do at home since this place has so many things they enjoying all day. This is a real refreshing brake for everyone and we will be back again for sure.Thank you for letting us share your lovely home once awhile and thank you Ed for your friendly hospitality. We are looking forward to come back again.
What a fantastic time we all had, Aug.24-28,2016...to celebrate our 38th college reunion. We are nurses from rhe Philippines and had been celebrating our get together every 2-4 years. This place so far has outshoned all previous locations ( San Diego, Chicago, New York, Tahoe, Seattle, Las Vegas...etc). The place has such serenity, tranquility & the perfect ambience of hosting any events. We were able to do a lot of group activities from hiking around the lake early in the morning, swimming at the pool with its adjacent spa, we went on a boat ride & there are kayaks available too. We harvested lots of very juicy cherry tomatoes, green apples, blackberries. And there are also rhubarbs, onions, zucchini & pumpkins around. We did lots of games outside on the lawn and even inside the house. We celebrated 10 ladies for their 60th Birthday. Did some dancing as well. The inside of the house is very spacious, beautiful & very clean. Perfect temperature throughout the day. The house is well equipped with whatever you might need. We used the main kitchen throughout the days cooking for 22. We used both homes on the property and we had a complete run of the property. Ed, the ranch manager is a perfect host and is always ready to help. From the beginning of our contact to our leaving the ranch....he has always been there to answer any questions. It was a huge success....lots of laughter, bonding and reconnecting. We would like to come back....hopefully soon. Thank you Ed for all of your help and making it easy for us. Thanks to the Betz Family for sharing their beautiful place.
This home and property are absolutely beautiful! This is the perfect location for a family gathering. The secluded location guarantees the peacefulness you will enjoy. There is so much to enjoy at the ranch we never ventured out other than to the market. Everyone loved the lake for SUPing and fishing...what a treat to see the grandchildren catch their first fish! Horseshoe pitching, hiking, playing in the pool, watching movies in the spectacular movie room or just relaxing in the shade reading...this home has it all. The spectacular kitchen is well stocked and the generous dining room easily accommodated our largest seating. The property manager, Ed, was very helpful and made sure all our needs were addressed. We could not have wished for a better location or more enjoyable vacation...thank you for sharing your wonderful home!
We just got back from spending our wedding weekend at Betz Ranch and it was unforgettable! We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and stayed until the following Monday morning. We had friend an family staying both in the houses and camping/RVing in the corral area. Betz Ranch was the perfect choice for our wedding because we wanted to be able to share the as much time as we could with out of town guests and also give family and friends who couldn't attend the wedding an opportunity to attend other events throughout the weekend.
The house was immaculately clean and impressive to all our guests. Most of them said they didn't picture such a beautiful place and they were going to have a hard time leaving. Guests chose to enjoy time by the pool, out on the lake, or just playing lawn games in the grass. It gave our guests opportunity to enjoy themselves by doing their choice of leisure activity. Some other activities the guests enjoyed were watching movies in the theater room, hiking around the property, and choosing music for the outdoor speaker system.
One of the great things about our stay was Ed. He was very helpful every day in setting up the amenities we needed. He even rigged up a lighting system for us so we could have lights on the driveway area. We were really fortunate to have him there to help us.
At the end of the weekend, nobody wanted to go home. We had a beautiful wedding down by the dock, a reception under the lights, and three other memorable nights of swimming, chatting, and playing games. If you are wanting a unique wedding this is the spot! It's hard to find venues like this especially with such great amenities at such a fair cost! I truly cannot think of one thing I would change from our weekend at Betz Ranch. Thank you, Betz family, for letting us make great memories at your beautiful home!
