We celebrated my 50th birthday there with three other couples. The view is incredible! Especially from the large master suite on the second floor. All four couples had their own bathrooms and privacy. We spent every morning having breakfast out back, and every evening watching the sunset out back. You literally walk out of the house, across the back lawn, and you're on the beach. Its a short drive to Aulani Disney Resort & Spa where we snorkeled, dined, and shopped. We had no issues and no bad surprises -- the home is exactly as it looks in the pictures.
This home was large enough to accommodate our group of 10 people for the week we were in Oahu. However, the description of the "5 bedrooms" was misleading. One room had just a sofa sleeper, NO DOOR, and no closet. This was disappointing, since we split the cost and one party was stuck with these poor accommodations. Also, the dishwasher would not drain, and after 4 phones and leaving messages, we finally got an email stating it would be fixed--but of course that was the last day of our stay.
The best part of this property was the patio, fenced yard, access to the beach, and the beautiful views.
We could not be more pleased with our stay at the property. The home is very spacious everybody had their own private room plus the common areas were large and accommodating. The outdoor space seem to be where everybody wanted to gather, but then why wouldn't you with the sound of the waves and the ocean right there! The kitchen is very well-equipped as we cooked most of our meals there. There was a nice gas grill outside that we used a lot. The home has a large hot water tank it we never seem to run out of hot water even with that many people. Plenty of towels and linens were provided. The outside storage closet was filled with boogie boards and toys and things for the play in the ocean and for the kids. I made an inquiry before arriving about a shower chair and a hand-held shower head for my son who is a paraplegic and Reggie the owner provided these things. I thank him very much for that because we were prepared to buy or rent them but he took care of it. Reading the past review I was a little concerned about the beach but it was wonderful. During extremely high tide there are rocks that become exposed but most of the time we were there it was just a beautiful sandy beach. The beach is very private, I'd say we didn't see five people go by the whole time we were there.
My husband and I stayed in the upstairs bedroom which is a beautiful suite with an amazing view of the ocean right from the bed. At first we were concerned that there was no air conditioning up there but when you open all the windows at night you will be finding a cover to put over you. Between the sound of the waves and the cool ocean breeze it was heavenly for sleeping.
All in all renting this place was a wonderful experience and our family is already talking about wanting to go back! Thank you Reggie and Home Away for a wonderful week! The Lancasters
The house was very comfortable for out group of 8. Nice to have so many bathrooms; plenty of towels but could use more washcloths; kitchen was nice size but could use more silverware. Fenced yard was nice too; large gated drive way secure and plenty of room as we had 2 cars. We enjoyed meals on the lanai and there were no mosquitoes/bees etc. There were about 4 cockroaches during the week we were there but it is the tropics. The beach was great while we were there but can change & become more rocky depending on the tide. We had fun playing in the ocean and boogie boarding; it is too rough for snorkeling though. The house typically cooled down at night due to a nice breeze and ceiling fans; having screens on a couple more doors would help it to cool down even more; we were able to sleep comfortably though. It was nice to wake up to sunshine and singing birds. The owners were friendly when they showed up at check out time but we mistakenly thought we had 1 more hour; had a nice visit with them. Would love to come back some day!
The beach is nice and private. The yard is very good for kids to have fun. The second floor of the house is newly renovated, very nice. If the first floor can be renovated as well, that will be a perfect location for one week vacation. General speaking, the price is reasonable, but the location is so-so. The hwy 93 is very busy every day.
Good: Lovely backyard and private-feeling beach largely made up for the negatives. 2nd floor master suite is apparently fairly new construction and very nice. Appreciated having a washing machine and dryer. Lots of beach towels and toys are provided.
Not-So-Good: Very gritty neighborhood. House fronts to highway but front yard is walled and has locked gate. Cockroaches - I expect to see bugs in a tropical climate, and they didn't really bother me that much but kids hated them. Because this was mentioned in another review, it seems that this should be taken care of. Customer service would be improved with better supplies at house: more trash bags, toilet paper, hand soap at sinks, and shampoo/conditioner in bathrooms. 2nd floor master suite bathroom - took cold showers for 3 days before mentioning to custodian. To his credit he sent a plumber right away and it was found that shower faucet was installed incorrectly so that "hot" is barely on and "cold" is fully on. One of the "bedrooms" is a room off the living room/kitchen that has a sleeper couch and does NOT have a door. Adults wanting privacy would not care for this. Also, the sheets on this sleeper couch had not been changed and were repulsive. Furnishings are older and look more dated than charming but some of the artwork is good.
