The Forty One Oaks guest house is on our 3 acre property in a serene treed setting just minutes from I-280 and access to Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and the rest of the Bay Area. Constructed in 2014
The guest house is cantilevered over the oak-studded hillside, giving it the feel of a tree-house. Ceilings are 9 feet high, lights are LED. It was constructed from scratch in 2014, to the highest quality and safety standards.
There is a fully stocked kitchen, laundry, full bath, and 2 bedrooms. The master has a double bed, reading chair, closet and dresser. The second bedroom has a trundle bed (2 single beds that can be combined) and a desk so it can be used as an office. We have is a private tennis court on site that you are free to use, including a ball machine and racquets.
Solid wi-fi (~50mbs) to stay connected while you watch the deer graze. You also will have a television with DirecTV service.
We moved to the Bay Area about 25 years ago to join the high tech world. We've stayed because its a bit of paradise, in the midst of culture, dramatic landscapes and foodie heaven.

You'll love the location and the amenities, so close and yet so far away from Stanford, silicon valley and san francisco.
Peace and quiet. Beautiful surroundings. Great access to Stanford, Silicon Valley and the rest of the fabulous Bay Area
This property is a wonderful peaceful place to stay. I was back and forth to the Stanford campus many times during the day and it was an easy drive and a beautiful woodsy setting to come home to. The trails in the area are wonderful for hiking and the owners were very accommodating. I would highly recommend this guest house and hope to stay here again. I am pretty picky and generally stay in hotels but I would return to this guest house with no hesitations.
We stayed for 1 week in summertime, and we were concerned about the heat, but the weather was perfect and the guest home was very comfortable. Steve and Ellen were easy to reach, though we didn't have any problems during our stay. We look forward to returning in the future, and would highly recommend staying here.
I rented this property over the Thanksgiving holiday for visiting family. My sister and her 3 kids enjoyed the in-law unit, a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with kitchen/great room as described on the VRBO site. The unit was very clean with new appliances and included basic amenities plus extra goodies (wine, condiments, coffee, etc) which were much appreciated. The style is open, modern, and welcoming with views of oak trees out of every window. We especially liked the deck and dining table! While drinking their morning coffee my sister and her daughter were treated to a friendly visit by local deer families. The hilltop views are of the north and east and the night lights are spectacular. The neighborhood is quiet and tranquil, the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation. Located close to 280, Stanford University and Palo Alto it is an ideal jumping off point for visitors exploring the bay area. Steve and Ellen are wonderful hosts who take pride in their home and guest house, a pleasure to work with!
The property is beautiful, with a postcard view from the terrace. Unfortunately we were there during a heatwave and without the benefit of fans it was a rather toasty stay. We also had a minor problem with ants in the bedroom and kitchen, but I gather this is also rather normal for this type of property. Steve and Ellen were very welcoming, and the property was extremely convenient to Stanford, and beautifully furnished. Steve even offered to set up a printer for us. It would suit those with disabilities as there are no steps and access is direct.
This guest house is excellent - modern and elegant. Just built - everything is new and everything is clean. Fully equipped, everything works. Surrounded by oaks with a view of Portola Valley, quiet and picturesque. We dined on the little terrace drinking wine that came as a welcome gift and deer came every evening. My kids were fascinated (we don't see deers very often in Moscow). Steve and Ellen - the owners - were very very nice. I din't feel tenant - more like a guest. Great experience. Highly recommended!
Our stay in this newly built two-bedroom would have been superlative at any time, but for this visit in particular it was ideal. One of our family members was recovering from surgery at the Stanford Hospitals in Palo Alto. We needed to be near the emergency in case of a setback and this home is just about ten minutes away. In addition, there is room to park a car, no stairs to worry about, and the environment is quiet, peaceful and on the edge of a wooded hillside full of birdsong day and night. There is a small kitchen with dishwasher and a compact washer-dryer which was ideal. Wi-Fi and streaming services helped pass the time, too. Hard to imagine a better spot in the area, or anywhere.
