The House Family first visited Port Mansfield in 1961. It was love at first sight...well at least for my dad. After visiting many years we decided to build on the newly developed Port South...In fact we built the First house. To say the least our family has made a lifetime of memories here...some of the best. Our dad, Joe, won the TIFT 2 years in a row. Our love for the Texas Gulf Coast has never waned and it provides some new delight with each visit.
Susie House purchased this cottage in 1989
'Casa Paradise' is a spacious, beautifully appointed 'home'. It has been our home and the source of many wonderful memories with family and friends. We have spent countless hours watching the moon come up over the bay or star gazing. Morning coffee on the deck was a daily routine. Friends dropped by everyday to enjoy the pool and have a cocktail. We grilled more than our fair share of fresh fish for an evening dinner. There was always music playing and lots of laughter. Our mom and dad have now passed and it is our desire to fill this home once more with the fun and laughter we enjoyed for so many years. This is our wish for you
Sitting on the deck looking out over the historical Laguna Madre seems to make your cares fade away. There is just a sense of timelessness...You may find yourself pondering the Spanish galleons that now rest on the sandy bottom of the Gulf of Mexico or the grandness of The King Ranch at it's height. This is an area rich in Texas history and can being there can become quite infectious.
Port Mansfield is often referred to the 'Sportsman Paradise'. This off the beaten track community offers some delightful fun from bay fishing in the Laguna Madre, off-shore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, beach combing and body surfing on South Padre Island or casting a line on the new community pier for some nice night fishing. Port Mansfield has really transitioned into a nice family destination in the past few years. Spending a day on the bay will offer you the chance of a nice catch as well as watching the porpoise play and the pelican's fly in formation. South Padre is a short 15 minute boat ride...this is a part of the island without the crowds and you can enjoy a quiet day of playing in the surf, beach combing, surf fishing and having a cook-out. A day in the Gulf of Mexico can provide excitement for sure...You may catch a Kingfish or spot a giant sea turtle. It's a 'Zoo' out there and you just never know what you'll find. A fun boat ride down the Laguna Madre will take you to Port Isabel/South Padre Island. You can tie off in the bay at one of the many piers and go T-shirt shopping or catching a bite to eat at one of the great restaurants. It makes for a very nice day trip. On the ride back be sure to take notice of the Atascosa bird refuge to the west of the bay. You can spot Cranes, Spoonbills and Flamingos among many other species that migrate there. Pretty Awesome! The whole area is just Unique in many ways. Port Mansfield is located on part of The King Ranch. It's not unusual to spot some exotic animal on the drive in and the deer at Port are quite a site to behold. They come right up to the house and you can put out deer corn to watch them feed! If you tire of fishing Harlingen offers some nice golf courses as does Laguna Vista (approx 40 min drive). There is simply a magical ambiance...You will want to return year after year.
