Needs a little TLC but we had a blast!

  • 4 of 5

The owner was quick with replies and any information we needed and the cottage itself is a little slice of heaven with great views and easy access to the lake. Bob's Big M in Walcott was an amazing little grocery store with anything you might need. The cottage has everything you can think of but guests hadn't cleaned up after themselves and certain items were broken and/or took us 45 min to clean the grill - a bit of a bummer. Neighbors were lovely and we would have given this a 5 but wanted to alert those of you who don't enjoy something a bit rough around the edges - this really is as advertised - rustic!

Great find nestled in Wolcott on the bluffs!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 nights and fell in love with the rustic cabin charm immediately. 2 families - 4 adults and 6 teens/kiddos. So much to do in the cabin and outdoors. Kids loved the drum set and instruments. We got a show from them daily! They also loved the VHS movies and VCR! We adults loved teaching the kids about the way we grew up with VHS movies. Lol. They seriously thought it was the coolest thing ever. The owners provide so much in the house.. you honestly do not need to bring a thing! I've rented alot of places and this one was the best bang for your buck by far! Bring your toothbrush and food and enjoy the lake view! We couldn't get enough of our private beach below the cabin. Kids and adults floated in the water for hours! Stairs are steep but that's to be expected when staying near the bluffs. Fires were filled with laughs and relaxation nightly. Neighbors next door became our friends! They were amazing to all of us. We hung out with them our last night. The only thing we thought could be improved upon was the jungle growing below the stairs to the lake and all down below near the walkway to the lake. It's quite overgrown and attracts so many insects. Other than that - our mini vacation was beyond awesome at this large, beautiful family friendly cabin!

Port Byron

As I expected

My family & I enjoyed the view, the quiet & access to Lake Ontario. The grandkids played a lot at the waters edge & even caught a few sun fish . Great family time. Will consider it again for our next family outing.

Great retreat on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for the weekend in mid September with family and friends. Place is awesome - worm and original (rustic) decor with many unique decorations. We spent most of the time on the deck or outside since the weather was great. Swam in the lake (it is a bit if a rocky entrance) but after a few feet is sandy. Area is really nice with good neighbors. Winery within walking distance - great for a little walk. Kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. Beds are comfy. Owners are great to deal with. Definitely will be coming again next year.

Beautiful lakefront property

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! It is beautifully decorated and has a gorgeous view of the lake. The house is right on the water with a private stone beach. Although one of the neighboring houses is a little close, the cabin still felt private.

There is a nice winery within walking distance (5 mins) called Thorpe Vinyard. The staff and the wine there were great! Chimney bluffs park is also within walking distance. We went on a walk along the edge of the bluffs next to the water and it was beautiful. There are a few restaurants about 15 mins away.

It is a great place for a quiet getaway!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great! It is a real log cabin home. There are 3 bedrooms including a loft and a great room. The great room was perfect for us because no one was excluded from the fun while cooking or cleaning. The walls are decorated with antique tools, furs, and antlers. There are plenty of activities! We spent our time playing games and searching for cool rocks on the beach. The beach is a stone beach and mostly clean. There were a few dead fish, but it is that time of year when the water gets colder and I certainly wouldn't expect the owners to clear the few dead fish away! The stairs down to the water are steep and I would be nervous taking young children down, but my group was made up of capable adults. We watched a sunset down by the water and it will be a forever memory for me!

The cabin has plenty of space to spread out, but sound carries. It really only bothered us if someone was a "sleepy head". We had plenty of hot water the entire stay. We didn't find it to be a problem to bring tap water, infact, we brought too much, so we left a few gallons for the next person. I did not have cell reception (Sprint), but people with verizon did.

We walked to Thorpe Winery, it was less than 10 minutes away! The wine was great. We drove and parked at the Chimney Bluffs State Park. What a great park! It is popular, so we saw a lot of people, but the view of the Bluffs and Lake is a great draw!

It is hard to find good places to go and take a dog. I didn't mind picking up after her and vacuuming before leaving. Bringing the dog really added to the experience!

Thank you for letting us have our perfect getaway!

Thorpe Vineyards is in walking distance from the cabin. They offer wine tastings, etc.

Bob's Big M is the nearest grocery store located ~8 miles from the cabin in the village of Wolcott
