About Gary DeGrave

Red & Doris DeGrave purchased the property 60+ years ago. In 1989 construction was started on the lodge and has been continually improved over the years. The Lodge is now enjoyed and maintained by the 8 DeGrave children.

What makes this lodge unique

This is where the family gets together for reunions, holidays and other special occasions. We enjoy hunting, horseback riding, flying, corn roasts, 4 wheeling and just catching up with each other around the fire.

Had a very wonderful time here!!!

  • 5 of 5

I don't generally write reviews, but I felt this property and Gary deserved my thanks and appreciation!! We (9 of us) stayed here for the memorial day weekend and I am glad I reserved this. Gary was very gracious and accommodating. This is a secluded cabin out in the woods and it was a nice get away for us city folks. We were guided to the property by Gary on the first day and he was very helpful, showing us around.

The kids loved the trampoline and the swing/slide set!! We were prepared with a lot of toys and games for the adults and kids to play, but we needn't have bothered to pack them, as the lodge had everything needed (the kitchen pantry was fully stocked too). We were worried about not having electricity, but the generator is very easy to operate (just a on/off switch) and the gasoline lamps spread throughout the cabin was helpful too.

We had fun, roasting marshmallows with the the firepit. The only thing I felt I could change was the duration of the stay - it seemed too short ... I would certainly come back and spend more time here...

Star gazers and R&R

My husband and I took our family on a trip around lake Michigan this summer and this was our 3d stop along the way. Owners were very sweet. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable with more than enough space for our family. The main reason we chose this location was so my astro-photographer husband could get some shots of the perseids meteor shower. The weather didn't cooperate and we didn't get a single picture of the sky, but the property was beautiful enough he was able to get other great shots. This property is very kid friendly, and our kids pretty much lived on the trampoline the entire time we were here! Thank you for sharing your beautiful hunting lodge with us! We will be back!

The Miller's

Exceptional place to stay - owners were gracious and very accommodating....clean, comfortable, quiet and serene - just what we were looking for - so much to do and so little time - age 55+ would have no problem enjoying their stay here - our retirement trip was a wonderful experience - wish we would have seen more wildlife, but we had a pair of sand hill cranes visit us for bird seed every morning right out our front window. Thank you for sharing your personal paradise with us, DeGrave Family.

A week in the UP

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Red's Cedar Lodge. From the delicious brownies waiting for us on the counter to the cheerful welcome when we arrived, we felt right at home. We were in town to visit family and consequently we're not at the Lodge quite a bit during the day but we wished we had more time to explore the trails on the property. All in all it was a wonderful vacation.

Lovely cabin in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful long weekend at this lovely cabin! So appreciate that Tex stayed up till midnight waiting to lead us to the cabin, which is so very secluded, we would not have found it. We had warm fires every night in the wood stove (first night Tex came and made sure the fire was built) Cabin is cozy, huge, clean and lacks nothing. Can't wait to return!

Nice secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is lovely, large and nicely furnished. Our kids loved the trampoline and used it whenever there was some down time. The grounds around the cabin were well-maintained, lots of space for kids to run and trails to walk near the cabin. After dark some of us had a fire at the firepit and toasted marshmallows, some played pool downstairs and we all went out to look at the stars. Coming from a city we were delighted with the star-covered sky, something we miss. We also loved hearing the whip-poor-wills in the evenings.

A very big part of our enjoyment of the cabin is that it's so private. The other side to this is that most of our sightseeing, visiting Escanaba and Lake Michigan and Munising and Lake Superior required a 30 minute to one hour drive. But we found lots to see in the area and enjoyed our trips to Kitch-iti-Kipi, Fayette Historical Park, Pete's Lake and the beaches on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

The owners were so nice to us and we had a wonderful time.
