Lewis and Marilyn are two accountants from Florida. They built cabin by the falls as an escape from the busy lifestyle they have in South Florida.
Marilyn Olmsted purchased this cabin in 2011
Lewis has loved Packwood since he was knee high to a grasshopper. According to his baby book, Packwood was the first place he ever visited!
We love to hike, camp and be outside! Packwood is the perfect place to launch our adventures.
Marilyn's love affair began on the first trip to Packwood back in 2001.
Together they enjoy getting back to nature and the down home people.
Beautiful house. The construction-man in our group commented on the very good materials and construction of the house. The master suite on the top floor was awesome with a very big walk in shower plus jetted tub. The master bed was so impressive the five foot lady who slept there needed the foot stool to get into it.
The kitchen was so well equipped we did not want for any equipment. The cook who used the outdoor grill said it was better than we have at home, very nice to have the gas connected to main gas tank.
I am sure the fireplace issue will be resolved soon, we could not use it. We would have enjoyed a fire early in the morning with our coffee. Our issues with the TV were resolved per telephone call and could us better written instrutions.
The one item we missed but managed was table lamps at the bedside, they would have been nice.
Best, it is a beautiful house, well maintained with exceptional kitchen and laundry room equipment. It is in a serene location and an easy walk to the waterfalls. We could imagine how splendid it would be with adequate water running over it, we hit it at a minimal time.
We used it as hub for seeing Mt. St. Helen and it is so close to Mt. Rainer. It will be wonderful for renters who ski and do Winter sports.
We all had a great time at Marilyn's and she was a perfect hostess - super responsive during our stay (not that we needed much). The kitchen really is fully equipped and we had a great fire outside in the firepit. Our dogs absolutely loved the place as well. There's nearby access to a ton of great hiking and even the drive down is beautiful. Get ready to really be in the outdoors :) We'll definitely be visiting again!
This was a beautiful property with woods and privacy on a quiet culdesac. We didn't want to take a long hike on our first day there, so loved going to the waterfall right on the property and then to the Grove of the Patriarchs. We were there a month and never had to use the AC because the house was so cool. The kitchen was very nice with all kinds of amenities. The owner was very nice and helpful whenever we needed her. Only one recommendation - Chairs on the balcony and more furniture on the deck. It was a beautiful deck and would have loved to have had a few meals on it.
We saw lots of elk almost every day, either near town or right outside of it. Of course, we loved the hiking , and went to Packwood Lake, Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helen's among other wonderful places.
Stayed July 15 to August 15
The cabin was easy to find, clean and well-maintained. very quiet surrounding. The cosy open fire reminded us of our stays in cabins in Norway. The cabin is ideal starting point for short hikes directly behind the house, the vicinity of Packwood (Great hike to Packwood Lake!) and for longer rides to Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens. Marilyn's recommendation of Blue Spruce Saloon was accurate! If it wasn't so far from Germany, we would like to come more often.
3 Couples had a great time in this amazing cabin. The large kitchen is very well stocked. Everything is new, clean, and very comfortable. We had just enough snow to build snowmen, went on some great hikes just out the back gate, and enjoyed the extensive movie collection. We would all come back again and recommend to others!!!
Two of us had a quiet getaway in this beautiful home for the early part of ski season at White Pass. The access to the ski area is any easy drive just up the highway. The cabin is at the end of a rural road among tall trees in a very quiet setting. The whole place is very well designed with wide open spaces, yet grouped furniture so two people can have an intimate time, and large parties can separate into groups for games or tv, but also be all together in one great room. The kitchen is huge and modern with every convenience - a great pleasure to cook in with space for multiple people and prep areas. The top floor is a luxurious master suite. It rained the whole time we were there, so I didn't go on the trails, but sat out on the wrap-around deck under cover just listening to the rain falling on the trees. I also took some beautiful photos of an elk herd in a meadow less than a mile from the cabin! I highly recommend this accommodation. Although we were only here in winter, it seems perfect for any season.
- check WSDOT for road closures on Hwy 12 before heading to the ski area
- the wine bottle opener is in a wood box next to the wine glasses (wasn't immediately obvious to us)
- Verizon appears to have cell coverage here while other carriers reportedly don't
We would definitely stay here again.
