Everything you could want ...and more

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the houseboat late June 2017, with my husband and our two children (ages 10 & 11). Janet is easily the most experienced, organized and thoughtful host we've ever dealt with. The houseboat itself is amazing! It's impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, while still being comfortable enough to just want to hang out and relax. There was easily enough room for the 4 of us (my son slept in the lower den room on the small couch, which would not fit an adult).

On top of that, she has furnished it with everything you might ever need. Plenty of thick comfy towels (including a darker 'make-up removal' washcloth in each bathroom, so her lovely white towels stay that way). The full kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary appliances, pots, pans, utensils, spices, coffee, tea, paper towels, detergents, etc. Bathrooms are equally equipped with towels, hair dryers, mini hospitality shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions, etc. She left us wine, and dropped off bikes for us to use during our stay! There are fans for when you're warm, a fireplace and several throw blankets for when you're chilly, interesting books and literature about Marin and the sounding area, wildlife, things to do, etc.

The location is perfect - super close to the Marin headlands and Muir Woods, while still just minutes 15 from the city. We slept with the windows open, and the 101 traffic noise didn't disturb us at all, except for the odd motorcycle tearing through. The houseboat neighbors were very welcoming and friendly and were happy to talk about houseboat life. Walking up and down the docks was an adventure in and off itself. There's also a fantastic restaurant/diner a short walk down the road called the Bayside Cafe. Well worth a visit for breakfast or lunch.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone wanting a serene, beautiful and thoroughly unique vacation.

Wonderful, relaxed experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at this floating home! As others have said it certainly lives up to (and surpasses) the photos. This place is incredibly organized so that it feels very spacious and it is well equipped for just about anything you might think of. The kitchen has the equipment you need to cook in as well as many of the staples to help you get going. There are cozy blankets on the balcony for cool nights and fans inside if the day warms up the rooms. There are interesting books to flip through including several on the houseboat community itself.

The 'neighborhood' of houseboats/floating homes is fun to check out. Janet is responsive and thoughtful - providing a bottle of wine and filling the place with all the little things that help make the stay special.

Overall, a great experience!

Serenity

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Chic Floating Home in Sausalito. We have been coming to this area for years and the place lived up to all the photos and reviews. It was as beautiful and serene as the photos portrayed it. Janet's attention to small details makes the house boat feel like a home.....from fresh flowers to a nice bottle of wine. The location is strategic to everything - from San Francisco to Napa. We would definitely stay here again.

There is a Target very close by which came in handy---as did the Starbucks.

We also enjoyed our daily visits from families of ducks and geese.

I would highly recommend this property ----you won't be disappointed.

Chic Floating Home

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Janet's property was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. The owner communicated in a timely manner prior to our stay. The property exceeded the description of 'chic' and the setting provided the perfect combination of relaxation along with easy access to the village of Sausalito and the multiple attractions of the San Fransisco area.
