Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development, construction and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field.
Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original 5 cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land-use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October, 2011, the Creekside Cabin June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin June, 2013, and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main lodge will also be built. We feel this is a very special property and believe you will feel the same way after visiting.
Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc.
Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to downtown Bend. We began stocking Tumalo Lake with Rainbow Trout in 2013 and guests this past Summer were catching 16-18' beauties. This Winter, weather permitting, we will be making an ice skating rink on Tumalo Lake.
There is no other place so close to Bend affording such quality accommodations, privacy and natural beauty.
Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise with us. The cabin is everything we could have imagined and more. Our stay was truly wonderful thanks to the plush amenities provided here. We leave hear rejuvenated, relaxed and grateful for the opportunity to stay at Tumalo Lake. What a gem!
Tumalo Lake Cabins truly is a secret slice of Heaven in Oregon. We stayed four nights before Christmas in the Hillside Cabin as a family holiday getaway. It was wonderfully private and more luxurious and remote than we expected. Yet it was so close to Bend and other activities. We snowshoed, snowboarded at Mt. Bachelor, snow hiked to Tumulo falls, shopped in Bend, and just chilled (reading, playing games, soaking in the hot tub) all while overlooking Tumulo Lake with a cozy fire always burning.
Stayed at the cabin for 11 nights and from the moment we drove up the track we knew we had arrived in our piece of heaven.
The cabin was beautiful. All the mod cons and the large unobstructed windows provided the most perfect way to wake up every day.
The lake was lovely and we enjoyed every day on the water.
Our son (2 years old) loved the place and so did we. We didn't want to leave and we will definitely be back...
Cabin was definite luxury. Private Lake...beautiful. Canoes, Stand Up Paddleboard, fire pit. Loved to have my morning coffee on the deck. What a Zen retreat it was for us! Owners are very friendly, helpful and informative. I've never slept so soundly. Would highly recommend!
This is a hidden gem in Bend! It's only 15 minutes outside of town, but it feels so secluded and peaceful! All you hear are the sounds of dragonflies and fish jumping in the lake. We loved the quality and beauty of the home, the thoughtfulness and attention to detail of the amenities, and the peacefulness of the location. Our favorite memories of the weekend include the two mile walk around the lake (beautiful and I didn't see a single person the entire time...so much time to think and be alone was nice since I'm a mom of two young boys), taking our boys out in the canoe and fishing, sitting on the back deck in the adirondack chairs watching the sunset, and getting some much needed sleep with the windows open and cool mountain air (very restful and refreshing). You can tell that Bill and Tracy take a lot of extra effort to make their cabins and the property a special place for their guests. We are hoping to return in the winter! We loved it and think you will as well!
Our family of four had a wonderful, relaxing 8 days at the cabin. It was everything promised! The cabin has lake facing windows everywhere. The master bedroom window faces the a hillside covered in trees. Just 2 miles from the lake, the Tumalo Falls hike had views of four waterfalls after hiking only four miles. The beds were comfy, with down comforters which we actually used as it gets colder at night. The bathrooms were very nice and everything was clean, including the Jacuzzi on the front deck.
We did the Big Eddy river rafting and enjoyed very good restaurants at Old Mill. The views of the Deschutes River all through town as well as the back drop of Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters made for an idyllic setting. Wine tasting and craft beer are in abundance.
The only thing that gave us parents any pause, was that there were no televisions in the cabin BUT being unplugged ended up being a good thing for the kids! There was WiFi but for some reason it was best in the morning and a bit iffy as the day went on, but Bill gave us full transparency on that fact in the beginning.
The arrangements were all seamless and we received our cleaning deposit back ahead of schedule.
This was our 5th VRBO experience and definitely the best. Thanks Bill!
My wife, daughter and I stayed at the Hillside Cabin and had a fabulous time. The reservation was easy to make, as the owners are super responsive. The cabins are wonderful, fully stocked with everything you could need to make your stay perfect. The area is super fun with tons of wildlife and a wonderful lake to enjoy. The hiking is also wonderful. The location is perfect, being only 15 mins. from Bend. We were able to check in on the 4th of July in the late afternoon, then easily make it back into town for the fireworks. We will definitely be back next summer!
