About Richard and Nathalie

We are a professional French couple living in New York who, like you, enjoy travelling and the unusual.

Richard and Nathalie purchased this villa in 2005

Why Richard and Nathalie chose Jalisco

When we saw the location of this house which was originally a shack we immediately fell in love with the place and decided on the spot that this would be the site of our vacation home in Mexico, a people and culture we are much drawn to. The only thing we have regretted since then is not being able to be there more often.

What makes this villa unique

We, our guests, our friends all value the open air feeling of the house, nestled between the panoramic view ocean and the jungle of the mountain.... all in the middle of a beautiful garden

  • 5 of 5

Casa Coco is a little piece of paradise situated up on the mountain side overlooking its colorful garden, the ocean and Yelapa bay. The steps lead you to the front of the house where you walk right into the open air kitchen and dining area. The yellow tiled counter top is huge and provides pleanty of space to prepare a large meal, which we did every night. Beautifully crafted home and clean. Our hosts Felipe and Yanet were genuine, accommodating and total sweethearts. We had a wonderful, peaceful time staying there! Muchas gracias!

Casa Coco: The best location in Yelapa

  • 5 of 5

After 8 days in Casa Coco, we plan to make this an annual getaway. Located a 10-15 minute walk from the village, Casa Coco provides the quiet solitude we enjoy, combined with easy access to everything Yelapa has to offer. A five-minute walk to Playa Isabel and you are swimming, snorkeling, or fishing. Ten minutes further and you are at the market, Pollo Bollo, Mimi's, Glorias, Los Abuelos, or Tacos Yolanda. Eat as much as you want because the walk up the hill will work off that extra quesadilla or Corona. The view from Casa Coco is remarkable. Many mornings I sat on the veranda, drinking coffee, and watching the fisherman go out and then the tour boats come in. Have your camera ready for the parakeets, hummingbirds, and other avian life that visit the garden in front of the house. Thanks to Yanet, the house was always clean and tidy. I used the outdoor shower almost every day after snorkeling or fishing. Netting around and over the beds keep out most of the flying and crawling critters. Beware of the wily Mexican tejón! Follow the rules for food-based trash and food storage and you will be fine.

Yanet cooked two dinners and one breakfast for us. She is an incredible chef and a pleasure to be around. Phillipe captained the boat from Puerto Vallarta and back, and he took us on two excursions: One to go fishing and to eat at Arturo's in Chimo, another to the Marietas Islands for snorkeling. Phillipe is always on time. He's a great captain and fishing & snorkeling guide. And he's just plain fun to talk with.

Thanks, Richard and Nathalie, for letting us share your beautiful house and for all of the advice you provided. And great thanks to Phillipe and Yanet for making our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I look forward to seeing you again.

I highly encourage anyone who enjoys some privacy and solitude without remoteness to enjoy a visit to Casa Coco. Just beware: You might not want to leave.

The property itself is beautiful and secluded

  • 3 of 5

The Casa Coco palapa is beautiful with a gorgeous view, open air kitchen, two main bedrooms with bathrooms and an upstairs sleeping area as well. Unfortunately there was a mix up in our arrival date or something and when we arrived the palapa had not been cleaned and we didn't know where to find sheets for the beds, etc. We arrived at 1pm after alerting Richard by phone and on the homeaway site earlier that day. Thinking we were probably just early, we went down to the beach and came back around 7 to find the home still not cleaned. When I finally got ahold of Richard, he speedily got ahold of the local property manager who came with about 5 other people to clean and appoint the home. So while it was not a great start, they did do their best to quickly get the home in order and while we felt terribly that they were spending their evenings working for us while we sat around, we really appreciated the fact that the whole crew of folks showed up to help make us comfortable. We REALLY enjoyed our stay for the next few days. The stairs are certainly nothing to gawk at but also not overly burdensome and just made you ready for a cold shower once you reached the top. Overall a good experience

Jungle Oasis with fantastic views....

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely stay at this glorious open air place, perched high in the jungle above the sea. All that's missing is the pool in this tranquil paradise. At night the sounds of the waves and the jungle noises are all you can hear, along with the distant sounds of music on the beach at night... and the glow of fireflies twinkling in the rafters above while lightning storms lit up the skies across the ocean. It might not be for everyone: with the epic walk along the coastal path (that at high tide meant you had to make a dash over rocks between waves) and up the jungle path, to the steep steps of Casa Coco. It made it hard to do more than once a day, so keep the fridge stocked so you don't have to! The views and the magical privacy of having this lush jungle paradise to yourself made it worth the walk. Its a good half hour walk to the beach, maybe 15-20 mins to town. But being able to take a boat from the main pier to the main beach, and then back to Playa Isabel (the closest boat drop off) on our way home from a day on the beach made it all much easier (and cut out a lot of walking). We were traveling with our 5 year old daughter and her granny, and we all managed it fine - though some might find it a challenge in the humid heat. Filipe and Yanet were friendly and helpful. We had such a memorable stay, and I would highly recommend it for anyone up for a bit of a jungle adventure. My only hope is that Yelapa remains unspoiled and removed from the high-rise glitz of neighboring Puerto Vallarta. The beauty of Casa Coco and the sweet mellow and super friendly vibe of Yelapa is exactly what we wanted.

Fabulous accommodations! Photos do not show how really nice it is!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Casa Coco and also the Coco Cabana for a group of 9. The first time we walked up the 80 or so stairs from the sea level to the Casa Coco we thought we'd not leave again. After a day we realized that it isn't that bad, you get used to it after a few days and come and go like it was nothing.

The homes are stocked with blenders, microwave, toasters, fans, good china and flatware ... every skillet and little sauce pot and kitchen utensil you will need to enjoy your home cooked meals right in your rental home while viewing a breathtaking view of the Bahia de Banderas.

Internet, Satellite TV, telephone service.... things a Yelapa visitor in the past would NEVER have found available. We hired a cook, small price to pay for breakfast served when you want it, fresh fish roasted on a stick, etc etc. Ceviche, guacamole and mexican sauces made daily for our enjoyment!

Couldn't have asked for a more complete rental property. Drop right down to the sea and you can dip into the ocean anytime you wish ... a 15 minute walk into the little carless town of Yelapa, another 10 minutes and you've made it across the river to the public beach where the tourists arrive.

You can always thumb a boat ride back to your side of the bay of Yelapa and get home sooner (tips are appreciated).

The seas are calmest in the summer months so visiting in the winter will make sea access a little more difficult for the novice. Both seasons have their pro and cons.

I lived in Yelapa during the years when there was not electricity, telephones nor satellite TV.

Things have changed for the better ... still no cars (thank god). So you must walk everywhere, which is one of the best things about Yelapa.
