Overview

About the property

This is a Family oriented rental - details at www.campriverrock.com

This warm and inviting home is 1 mile - a beautiful walk - to the quaint and growing hamlet of Callicoon, NY. In addition, the property is located within the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River National Park. Here is the website for the park - we are located between Callicoon and Damascus https://www.nps.gov/upde/index.htm. The home sleeps 8 adults in 4 double beds and 4 children in bunk beds. We do not rent to groups where there is no adult over the age of 25. There is an additional fee for each person over the capacity of 12; or for each adult that exceeds the maximum of 8 (we reserve the right to withhold funds from the damage deposit to cover inaccurately reported numbers staying at the house). Two full baths and a well-equipped and stocked kitchen make the living easy. The backyard is spacious and flat enough for volleyball, badmitten, croquette and more. A covered patio attached to the garage has a gas grill and charcoal grill for cooking out. The back deck has plenty of seating to sit and relax or for eating outside. There is a large firepit, right by the river with additional seating. If you like to fly-fish... just step right into the river and float your line.

Our Summer season booked up quickly this year, so please book in advance. We can break the payment into increments. We look forward to hosting you again in 2017!

Local shopping is easy to access with a farmer's markets in Callicoon on Sundays - featuring organic fare and local artisans. Pecks Supermarket is also right in town. Let us know in advance and we can have all your organic shopping done for you and waiting in the fridge!

There are several unique and trendy clothing stores where you are sure to find a one-of-a-kind piece - or a gift for a friend. There are good restaurants - everyone loves Ba and Me - a Vietnamese shop that serves out a small window. Like being overseas! The bars have a welcoming atmosphere and live music. There is also the local movie theatre - quaint and comfortable - with an outstanding candy selection. And up around the corner a little bowling alley that has unbelievable food and a bar. Feeling outdoorsy? Rent a bicycle, a kayak, canoe or a raft! Really outdoorsy? Try Ridgeback Sports new stand-up paddle boards. You can come down the mighty Delaware and step right out of the water into the back yard of River Rock House where a drink and a barbecue can await you.

In many ways - with just a 2 hour travel time - this little hamlet is a secret hideaway for NYC people who just want to get away from it all and have fun - indoors and out.

In the Summer there is the Callicoon Country Fair - a carnival and fair all rolled into one. Expect live performances, local artisans, contests and more.

Bethel Woods - the site of the famous Woodstock is 20 minutes away with topline performers - especially in the Summer.

Like to fish? The environs are famous for fly fishing. You could wake up in the morning, have your cup of coffee and wade right out into the river from the backyard and catch a rainbow trout. We can also arrange private fly fishing excursions with locals who know where the fish like to hide. Horseback riding is plentiful from beginners to advanced riders.

About owner/property manager

Maureen and George are outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers! We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw the majestic Delaware River in the backyard! Maureen, as a former world traveler, has shared her collection of arts and crafts from around the globe. We live in the home when it is not rented so it has the feel of a warm and well cared for residence.

What makes this house unique

This area is full of things to do. It is a haven for foodies - with graduates from the Culinary Institute of America opening Farm to Table restaurants in the area. The river is full of water sports - canoeing, rafting, stand-up paddle boarding, fly fishing, drop fishing and more. There is plenty of skiing in the area for winter enthusiasts. wonderful location with the river as your backyard

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year vacationing at River Rock and it was as good as we expected. Our three sons and daughters in-laws and two grandsons absolutely loved this peaceful spot on the Delaware.

Canoeing down the Delaware is an unforgettable experience, one that was made even better when we spotted at least 10 eagles and caught some nice fish.

Nice place to be, looking forward to next year.

Comfortable home, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip to this location. We loved it the first time, still love it. Our grandkids love playing in the river and making S'mores. We like the farmer's market in Callicoon.

The house is great for playing games in the evening. The kitchen is well furnished and spacious.

This year we visited the fort just down the road from Callicoon and it was also amazing - it is small but staffed will folks that seem to love showing how life was lived in the 1700's. There was lots of hands on opportunities, including ax throwing.

The house and the area are both a great for a family getaway.

One thing that might be nice would be to have access overnight to Kayaks. I think the river would be fine to kayak upstream and back down, possibly to fish from the kayak.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and got out to explore the interesting features nearby - namely the Fort Delaware Museum. We do wish we could provide kayaks and canoes to our guests but our special insurance policy, for this type of venue, does not allow us to do so. We always have the safety of our guests in mind. We do invite all our guests to rent from Landers River Trips, which is 1 mile away. Perhaps they would allow overnight rentals, if contacted ahead of time.

Great Place to enjoy Delaware River

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect with amenities, plus wood for fires. The house is very kid friendly. We had cookouts and great fires in the evenings. Kayaking from and to the house was very easy. We had s'mores and toasted marshmellow on the campfire by the water. Starry nights were easy to enjoy in the adirondack chairs. I would highly recommend this property as a great place for a large group or family to enjoy the river.

Even better than the last time!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to River Rock. The house is decorated so well and all the amenities needed are on site. The owner, Maureen, is there via text or in person if needed for any assistance ASAP. The yard is perfect for the kids to play in and the fire pit roars at night. The entrance to the river is the best we ve found in years of visits to the area. Feel so far away from it all ....yet the town of Calicoon is super close w great food, ice cream and shopping.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you found us again! We were upset when HomeAway moved our listing from Callicoon to Damascus - as Callicoon - a treasure unto itself - is just 1 mile away! And I must agree, our Delaware River entrance is one of the finest there is! You were marvelous guests and we welcome you back any time! The Fall and Winter are magical, here at River Rock, as well. Hope to see you again soon.
