Comfy Cozy Living On The Delaware River

Space 2,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This is a Family oriented rental - details at

This warm and inviting home is 1 mile - a beautiful walk - to the quaint and growing hamlet of Callicoon, NY. The home sleeps 8 adults in 4 double beds and 4 children in bunk beds. We do not rent to groups where there is no adult over the age of 25. There is an additional fee for each person over the capacity of 12; or for each adult that exceeds the maximum of 8 (we reserve the right to withhold funds from the damage deposit to cover inaccurately reported numbers staying at the house). Two full baths and a well-equipped and stocked kitchen make the living easy. The backyard is spacious and flat enough for volleyball, badmitten, croquette and more. A covered patio attached to the garage has a gas grill and charcoal grill for cooking out. The back deck has plenty of seating to sit and relax or for eating outside. There is a large firepit, right by the river with additional seating. If you like to flyfish... just step right into the river and float your line.

Our Summer season booked up quickly this year, so please book in advance. We can break the payment into increments. We look forward to hosting you again in 2017!

Local shopping is easy to access with a farmer's markets in Callicoon on Sundays - featuring organic fare and local artisans. Pecks Supermarket is also right in town. Let us know in advance and we can have all your organic shopping done for you and waiting in the fridge!

There are several unique and trendy clothing stores where you are sure to find a one-of-a-kind piece - or a gift for a friend. There are good restaurants - everyone loves Ba and Me - a Vietnamese shop that serves out a small window. Like being overseas! The bars have a welcoming atmosphere and live music. There is also the local movie theatre - quaint and comfortable - with an outstanding candy selection. And up around the corner a little bowling alley that has unbelievable food and a bar. Feeling outdoorsy? Rent a bicycle, a kayak, canoe or a raft! Really outdoorsy? Try Ridgeback Sports new stand-up paddle boards. You can come down the mighty Delaware and step right out of the water into the back yard of River Rock House where a drink and a barbecue can await you.

In many ways - with just a 2 hour travel time - this little hamlet is a secret hideaway for NYC people who just want to get away from it all and have fun - indoors and out.

In the Summer there is the Callicoon Country Fair - a carnival and fair all rolled into one. Expect live performances, local artisans, contests and more.

Bethel Woods - the site of the famous Woodstock is 20 minutes away with topline performers - especially in the Summer.

Like to fish? The environs are famous for fly fishing. You could wake up in the morning, have your cup of coffee and wade right out into the river from the backyard and catch a rainbow trout. We can also arrange private fly fishing excursions with locals who know where the fish like to hide. Horseback riding is plentiful from beginners to advanced riders.

For more details, please visit our webpage at

The house is child-friendly, and the kids will never want to leave their cozy bunk bed haven.

There is an abundance of nature, from soaring eagles, deer, the occasional bear, foxes, squirrels and more.

About owner/property manager

Maureen and George are outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers! We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw the majestic Delaware River in the backyard! Maureen, as a former world traveler, has shared her collection of arts and crafts from around the globe. We live in the home when it is not rented so it has the feel of a warm and well cared for residence.

What makes this house unique

This area is full of things to do. It is a haven for foodies - with graduates from the Culinary Institute of America opening Farm to Table restaurants in the area. The river is full of water sports - canoeing, rafting, stand-up paddle boarding, fly fishing, drop fishing and more. There is plenty of skiing in the area for winter enthusiasts. wonderful location with the river as your backyard

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year vacationing at River Rock and it was as good as we expected. Our three sons and daughters in-laws and two grandsons absolutely loved this peaceful spot on the Delaware.

Canoeing down the Delaware is an unforgettable experience, one that was made even better when we spotted at least 10 eagles and caught some nice fish.

Nice place to be, looking forward to next year.

Even better than the last time!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to River Rock. The house is decorated so well and all the amenities needed are on site. The owner, Maureen, is there via text or in person if needed for any assistance ASAP. The yard is perfect for the kids to play in and the fire pit roars at night. The entrance to the river is the best we ve found in years of visits to the area. Feel so far away from it all ....yet the town of Calicoon is super close w great food, ice cream and shopping.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you found us again! We were upset when HomeAway moved our listing from Callicoon to Damascus - as Callicoon - a treasure unto itself - is just 1 mile away! And I must agree, our Delaware River entrance is one of the finest there is! You were marvelous guests and we welcome you back any time! The Fall and Winter are magical, here at River Rock, as well. Hope to see you again soon.

Great Place for a Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I spent a long weekend here with my close friends and their families, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The property is beautiful and private, with great access to the river. The house has a large kitchen that we used throughout the weekend, and while the house is in a quiet and secluded location, you are still incredibly close to the town and the surrounding amenities. We were all very sad to leave, including the four-year-old who loved the kid's room and wildlife wondering through the backyard. We would visit again in a heart beat!

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that all enjoyed their stay. We aim to please all ages! Please come back soon! The Fall season is incredibly beautiful - with hikes that will take your breath away ... and in the Winter - there is still plenty to do - with skiing nearby, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and more.! We look forward to hosting you again.

Great home, amazing location and yard!

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Home was a great combination of rustic style with modern amenities and located directly on the river within the National Park. Maureen and her husband were both kind and helpful! As we were leaving we were discussing our next opportunity to stay here. Great place to relax and unwind!

Owner's Response: Both George and I are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at River Rock. The spacious backyard, with the gentle walkout into the Delaware River, really is a prize unto itself. We are glad that you enjoyed our new updated kitchen. Come on back and relax any time. Fall and Winter are gorgeous as well. We do feel badly that we did not reach 5 stars. Please let us know what we can do better!

Owner's Response: We do believe our outdoor space, leading directly to a gentle walk-out on the Delaware River, is one of our best features. We do, however, feel bad that we did not achieve a 5 star rating. Please let us know what we can do better. We aim to please.
