Our family loves to hunt, shoot, swim, ski, hike and enjoy the great outdoors. We also gather with our family here at Laurel Ridge Lodge for ski trips and reunions and business getaways. We're local to the area and want to share our home with you.
Alishia Synan purchased this lodge in 2011
We purchased this home because of it's beautiful location in the Laurel Highlands. We enjoy staying here on family outings/reunions and hope you will too!
We enjoy hunting, hiking and shooting in the Donegal/Laurel Highlands area and this is quite close to those activities. The house is large enough to accommodate our extended families, so we spend a lot of time just visiting with each other at the house or hanging out at the pool/hot tub.
We had a very enjoyable week despite some very unusual weather. This house was a great accommodation for all 12 of us. Lots of space for living, eating and playing. We explored the Laurel Highlands each day and returned here to unwind and enjoy the peace and tranquility each night.
Thank you for providing us with a beautiful place where we could enjoy our time together.
We went with a group of 18 and we had a wonderful time enjoying the space in this beautiful home that is tucked away on a private driveway. I read all the reviews regarding the taxidermy so it didn't bother us when we arrived but it is overwhelming. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the stink bug issue we had in the master bedroom. When we arrived, there were dozens of stink bugs in the room, on the bed, in the bathroom......but we kept the fan running in the bedroom so I think that may have kept most of them at bay while we were there. We went in February so we weren't able to take advantage of the pool but we would definitely come back in the summer to do so. The hot tub was nice during the evening after a long day of skiing at seven springs which is about a 20 minute drive from the home. I recommend getting there before dark because the drive off of the main street is a dark drive without lights and it is easy to miss the driveway to get there.
This is the second time our group has come here and it's always been amazing. There is so much to do, and the house is so large that it never feels cramped, no matter how many people are in. Between the bar, the plethora of fireplaces, hot tub, theater room, giant ceilings, boccie ball court - we never wanted to leave. The plan was to go to the slopes all weekend but we only ended up going one day because of how much we loved the place. We will definitely be coming back in the summer to experience the amazing pool and warm weather.
The Laurel Ridge Lodge accommodated our group of 19 very nicely, and overall the week there was a success. But for a Lodge that is presented as a luxury lodge, several things should be better maintained. We had problems with the fire places and TVs, and did not attempt the outdoor pizza oven because it was not well maintained or cleaned. Also, the kitchen has only the bare essentials, and the location labels are inaccurate. These are details in the big picture, as the location and other amenities ( bocce, hot tub, theater) are great, and supported our group very well.
Our large family of 12 adults with children from 7 months to 15 years had a most enjoyable family reunion at this lodge. Cooking our meals in the well-equipped kitchen and being able to seat everyone at the huge dining room table each evening was very important for family togetherness. The outdoor pool was enjoyed by all. The view from the patio is grand with great sunsets some days. We liked that some family members could take advantage of hiking and biking in nearby parks while others explored local towns and attractions such as Ligonier and the I. M. Pei-designed home.
Our group of 22 adult family and friends had fun with all of the outdoor amenities (pool, bocce court, pizza oven, fire pit, etc.). There were plenty of plates, silverware, etc. and the huge table and benches allowed us to enjoy our meals together. We did have some issues with the sleeping arrangements. Six of the "kids" (all in their 20's) slept in the room with the bunk beds with doubles on the bottom and singles on the top. The beds were okay, but there was no closet or other storage space in the room. With six people and no clothes storage, you can imagine what the room looked like after a few days. The other problem was the room in the basement with two bunk beds. Two adults (50+) ended up down there. They said that the beds were hard and lumpy - probably mattresses on top of bunky boards. They may be okay for kids, but they did not work well for adults. The other issue was all of the animals (taxidermy) on the walls, floors, everywhere. It was a lot and bothered some of the people.
So... the outdoor amenities of this house are GREAT, and the privacy and views are wonderful. However, be aware of the sleeping arrangements if you have a large group of adults. The house would be ideal for large groups with kids that can take better advantage of the bunk beds.
The house was wonderful! Perfect my large family reunion. We had a few more people than what is listed as the max and we still fit comfortably! We could all fit around the huge kitchen table which was really nice! All the taxidermy animals took a bit to get used to but they definitely have the house character! Would definitely go back!!
