Newly constructed in 2014, Moonglow is an octagonal home with spectacular views of Coral Bay and the islands beyond. Vistas abound from every part of this spacious Caribbean home. (A sea view from every room!) The screened outdoor dining veranda is only steps away from a well appointed gourmet kitchen with owner created ceramic tiles complimenting the stainless steel and granite. An air conditioned bedroom with a king size 4 poster bed awaits after a late evening soak in our round intimate spa. The moon and the twinkling lights of the British Virgins are your only distraction!

About Mary Lou Taft

Decades long vistors to St John, we knew years ago that island life was very much a part of us. We dreamed of building a simple but unique green home in harmony with Coral Bay's natural beauty. Moonglow is the result. We welcome you to all that is magical in our island home!

Why Mary Lou Taft chose Coral Bay

After spending many years renting in various parts of Coral Bay, we knew without a doubt that this was the ideal spot!. It was always this particular view which thrilled us more than any other, on an island where every view is beautiful. We bought the land in 2006 and spent the next 8 years planning our dream Caribbean cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

The circular architecture and multiple large glass doors capture the surrounding view and create a feeling of being one with the outdoors; the valley below and the sea beyond. The open floor plan and cathedral cypress ceiling create a sense of airiness and elegant space which is cooled by the trade winds. It is important to note that Moonglow is the only house on the property. There is no apartment below or main villa with other guests above. You will be the sole occupants of the property....something I always found important when vacationing in St John......especially for couples and honeymooners. It is a tranquil and hidden escape!

Serenity and perfection

We've been coming to Coral Bay for many years, and of all of those years, this stay was the best. Moonglow is exquisitely decorated, situated and maintained, and its manager, Bob, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. We had such a wonderful time that we've already placed a deposit on our stay for next year. I'm missing Moonglow already, and we are only back home for a week!

Exquisite Coral Bay vacation

We loved staying at Moonglow Cottage. The views were spectacular - from the sunrise to the stars at night. The home is beautifully appointed with great attention to detail. Everything was clean and in great working order. We would highly recommend this to couples looking for rest, relaxation, and a chance to get away from it all.

Beautiful cottage for two on St John's less crowed East End

We have spent a week in this beautifully appointed and equipped cottage. it has a mesmerizing view that makes it just about enough to stay on the verandah and look out all day at boats going in and out of Coral Bay or out over the British Virgin Islands. The cottage is comfortable in so many of the ways that many rentals are not. The kitchen has good equipment, the lighting is great, there are lots of towels, the sheets are nice, it has a good Spain's system (although the only way to connect your device is if it is an old Idevice). It is the owners loved home and one can tell. We loved the location over Coral Bay. The East end of the island has an old hippie feel to it with a few live mike bar nights with everyone welcome but where locals come out to sing. St John is small enough to be able to get anywhere on the Island within a half hour drive. We especially liked the hiking trails which are all over the island. The beaches on the North Side are more beautiful than you can imagine. It's easy to fall in love with this island, and I think we may have.

Privacy and Views!

We loved our stay at Moonglow! The home is very well built and thoughtfully designed. It was extremely clean and comfortable. We loved looking at the stars each night (something we never get to see in Chicago!) and saw two shooting stars during our stay. There was also a full rainbow on our last day. Every day the view from the deck offers something new! The screened in porch with the jungle surrounding us was perfect for peaceful meals. The sound of the jungle at night was incredible!

The beach chairs, portable coolers, and multiple beach towels make daily trips to the beach very easy and much more comfortable. Snorkeling at Maho is a must- we saw 2 sea turtles almost immediately! We also enjoyed Honeymoon, Cinnamon, and Trunk Bay beaches. We wish we had one more day to spend at Salt Pond Bay- it seemed to be the hottest of all the beaches and very low key. Plus it's closest to the house!

We liked being able to eat some meals at home with the full kitchen- there were plenty of utensils, pots, pans, etc- everything you'd need to make a meal! The grocery stores on the island are very expensive compared to the states so be prepared to drop a pretty penny and try to bring all your toiletries so you don't need to buy them there. We preferred the Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay for the best selection of groceries. The Calabash market is good for dry goods, but I would get fresh produce at Dolphin. There is also a Dolphin in Coral Bay, not quite as big as the one in Cruz Bay. For our meals out, we loved the food at Cafe Concordia less than 10 minutes from the house. Indigo Grill was fun and the bartender at Shipwrecked made the best cocktails! We would pick up wraps at Pickles on our way to the beaches- very good and easy to pack. We stopped at Triple B for breakfast on our way out of town and had the best breakfast of our trip- we only wish we knew about it when we arrived!

We ultimately loved being in Coral Bay, but all the driving did take some getting used to. It was about 25 minutes each way to the north side beaches and the higher end restaurants. I wasn't prepared for so much driving on our vacation but St John isn't really walkable unless you are right in Cruz Bay, which I don't think you would want to be. It just means planning your days smartly- for instance, when we wanted to eat dinner near Cruz Bay, we would choose a beach with showers so we could rinse off and change to go straight to dinner. We highly recommended Moonglow & will be back!

Coral Bay is the 'laid back' side of St John. The area has more great beaches , snorkeling sites and hiking trails than you could possibly visit in one trip. Coral Bay also has interesting little shops, open air local restaurants/bars with live entertainment. There are also a couple of excellent grocery stores nearby. The reef bay hike is terrific with local park service guides who are fun and informative. At the end of the hike, a boat meets you at the beach and returns you to Cruz Bay where your car is parked. The island boasts more than twenty gorgeous beaches, each offering a different vantage point both above and below water.
