Helen Kruger purchased this townhome in 2014

Why Helen Kruger chose Baltimore

Manager Susan Colwell: 'I was walking through historic Fells Point, along the waterfront enjoying the shops and the street scenes. After an amazing lunch on Thames St., I decided to walk a few of the side streets and discovered a quaint little street just off the waterfront. The street was so charming—it reminded me of a small street in an ancient European village with it's flower boxes (Tons and tons of flower boxes!!) and adorable brick homes. Every home seemed to have a bench and flower-pot gardens were definitely the point of pride here. When I saw that Fells Point Charmer was for sale, I knew we had to have it!'

What makes this townhome unique

Old-world charm with a luxurious modern twist!

Fell's Point is a historic waterfront neighborhood (circa1763) in the southeastern area of Baltimore along the north shore of the Baltimore Harbor and the Northwest Branch of the Patapsco River. There are many shops, including antique stores, restaurants, coffee bars, music stores, a municipal market house with individual stalls, and over 120 pubs. Located just east of the famous 'Inner Harbor' (formerly referred to as 'The Basin') adjacent to Baltimore's downtown central business district and the Jones Falls stream (which splits the city, running from northern Baltimore County), Fell's Point has a maritime past and has the air of a seafaring town, it also has the greatest concentration of drinking establishments and restaurants in the city. This waterfront community is a tourist destination. It can be reached by 'water taxi' barges, expressway/interstate highways, local streets and boulevards and several municipal/state transit bus lines.

Just what we were looking for!!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a long weekend get away for 2 couples and this fit the bill perfectly. Very close to Fells Point water front and walking distance to Canton and Inner Harbor. We parked our car on Thursday and didn't need it until we were ready to leave on Sunday. Lots of character and charm with room for 4 adults comfortably. The house was equipped with everything we needed for the 3 day stay. The parking spot was a few blocks away but no big deal, easy to unload bags at the house as the street is not too busy. Owner replied quickly to questions about a second parking space and other items. Overall our group felt the stay was comfortable, safe and convenient.

Great little place. Perfect for our college move in weekend in Baltimore

  • 4 of 5

Location, location, location. Fells Point is right in the heart of things. Lits of nice cozy reataurants, inner harbor, and close to I-83 and I-95 to move about the city. The house itself is tucked in nucely off the beaten path.

The rooms were nice, had floor AC units and the beds and bedding were super comfy. I slept well every night. The kitchen was ample albeit we did not get close to cooking. Too many eateries too close and too good to even think about cooking!!!!

Perfect location!!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful three story row house is located on a quiet alley street, but just steps away from all the fun shops, restaurants and bars in Fell's Point! A pleasant minute walk to the picturesque waterfront. The beds and linens are comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are roomy, shower pressure is perfect. A short 10 minute Uber to Johns Hopkins. The central air conditioning is not dispersed evenly, making the third floor a bit warm, but both second and third floor bedrooms have accessory AC units making for comfortable sleeping. WiFi and cable TV worked well on all floors. Exposed brick and beamed ceilings are charming. The spiral staircases could be a challenge for some, but we navigating up and down just fine. Having a washer and dryer is very convenient. We had a great time staying in the cozy, lovely space. Highly recommended!!

contemporary hideaway

  • 4 of 5

We (husband +son) really enjoyed our stay. It was everything the listing promised.

Susan was great, very pleasant and extremely easy to work with. The house is close to everything.

The décor was contemporary and clean. We didn't want for any necessities in the house. The

street was quiet for the most part. A holiday bbq across the street but, it was a "holiday". Not a problem.

As previously stated, the patio was a bit of a challenge because of the flies. We would have loved to been able to sit and sip outside. It looked so inviting. The 3rd floor tends to run

a bit warm (use the fans with the air conditioner) and we weren't able to use the second shower but, I'm sure that will be addressed soon. Stairs aren't for the timid but, personally, we found humor in who could navigate them the best. When we weren't out due to weather, we "Netflix and Chilled"! All in all a good time. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you.

Charming historic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This was perfect for two 50-ish couples in Baltimore for a long weekend. The neighborhood was quiet but close to a lively area of shops and restaurants. Bedrooms are comfortable with newer bathrooms. Nice compact kitchen and a lovely secluded patio area. The historic details inside the house are amazing. I would definitely stay there again when visiting Baltimore.

Definitely not for everyone

  • 3 of 5

I have mixed feelings about this place. The pros: cute curb appeal (purple door!), nice quality and updated furnishings, new appliances in the kitchenette, firm and comfortable mattress, great shower, flat screen TV's, and no street noise at all because it's on a short one-way street with virtually no traffic.

The cons: the spiral staircase is so narrow and vertical that there is no way anything bigger than a small carry on can go upstairs. We had large suitcases because we were on a longer trip so those bags had to stay downstairs on the dining table. And the stairs to the third floor are not only narrow and slanted, but there is no railing!

There is central A/C but, not surprisingly, the first floor is cold, the second floor is cool and the third floor is warm. There are large portable AC units in each bedroom, which help, especially at night - and their low roar really drowns out any outside noise. The bad thing is that the units are large and make getting around the bed a challenge. Unfortunately, the bedroom windows face east and the curtains are sheer so the sun wakes you up VERY early.

There is a nicely furnished outdoor patio off the kitchen, but who wants to sit there when you have to pass the trash cans swarming with flies to get there? (There is also a cute small patio off the bathroom on the second floor - w/o flies, but prohibitively hot in the afternoon.)

This place is not for people who are taller than 5'11" because the bathroom ceilings are low (original beams are attractive but watchyour head.) It's also not good for people with bad knees (beds are low profile in addition to the stair issue) or those who have balance issues ( the upstairs floors slope, including in the shower).

All of this is made more irritating because the place is not cheap, after taxes and fees, AND the owner makes you buy a nonrefundable temporary insurance policy instead of the usual refundable deposit that other VRBO places have.

We did call the manager because there was a strong sewage smell on the top floor in the afternoons, but it may have been due to the heat. They sent a maintenance man promptly, but he couldn't find anything (he came in the morning when the smell wasn't bad).

We would probably stay here again (with less luggage), but solely because it's very close to our son's apt.
