this 1200 sq. foot building is extremely private and is located on a hill with lots of land around. It sits behind the main house which is the old F. Lee Bailey estate. This neighborhood is very high end but this pool house has a farm feel with an outdoor pool that is open all summer long. Marshfield hills is a very desirable place to visit in the summer for we are a short drive to the beach and the river. We are 20 minutes from the Plymouth and 45 minutes to Boston and the cape. This cottage style like home has an upstairs downstairs and has a half kitchen. This would be a great weekend getaway but does require a 4 wheel vehicle to get to in the winter.
NOTE: This is an abbreviated review to fit within word limits.
The owner seemed to be a nice woman. In my experience, she's not capable as landlord for renting vacation rentals. You'll see why I say this in the below review.
•••Things I didn't find in this rental:
-Welcome sheet with info. like wifi password, garbage removal instructions, check-in list and / or check-out list of things to do (where to leave sheets, etc.),
-No Garbage cans were provided initially.
-Cleaning tools such as a broom, vacuum, scrub brush for the sink, etc are not provided.
-There is no washer / dryer.
-There is no drying rack for dishes (nor a dish washer).
-THERE IS NO CLOSET for hanging up any clothing, such as shirts, jackets, etc.
– THERE WAS No RELIABLE (usable) WIFI during the entire visit. This became known to the owner within a couple days of my arrival. It was known to her in conversation that I work online and would need wifi. I ended up paying over $100 in overage for my portable hotspot usage, expecting all the while that she would remedy the situation.
-For dog owners, the back yard / pool area is fenced, but I had to cover 5 different areas in the fence with the various pieces of wood and broken parts of the diving board, etc. to keep one of my dogs from getting out. There is only a small strip of ground for dogs to use the bathroom, which my dogs used, but no grass / yard.
-For dog owners: The pool is covered with a heavy duty tarp. My dogs quickly learned to stay off of it, but it is a hazard in my opinion. I would not feel safe with the liability of having dogs around in there if I were in the owner's position. B/c the pool is mostly filled with water, if one or more dogs were to fall in, with the tarp falling in over them, the results would disasterous, I think.
-For dog owners: The owner made no attempt to familiarize her dog(s) to me. They mostly roam free in the back yard. Her Burmese Mountain dog (Lucy) was barking at me (and my dogs) and following us on and off the property (and sometimes down the road) each and every time we entered and left the rental. To allow this behavior to persist without ANY attempt to stifle is was extremely rude in my opinion. It gave me a very distinct impression that I was not welcome at the rental, especially in conjunction with the lack of effort to fix the wifi.
-I was unable to figure out how to turn on the bedroom heat initially
We are just a few miles from the most beautiful beaches around. We have parking we can use a few doors from the beach but our pool house is a few miles from the beach. We are 1/2 mile from a marina that sits on the North river with access to the ocean. You can rent boats there or have lunch on the deck.
