Small but outfitted cabin in it's own bit of paradise. ( we also live on the property , with privacy fence and large pines between) Town, 3 miles away but country/rural at the property. Deer, pheasants, turkey's, walk through the yard often. fishing and hunting easily accessed. Rivers and lakes are in all directions for spring rafting and summer fun! Mountains surround area [three mountain ranges, Selkirk, Percell and the Monarchs] The hiking is endless.
Cabin has a nice covered porch, separate bedroom, (Queen pillow top Englander mattress very comfy) and twin bed in main room. Kitchen is small, 1/2 fridge, many methods of cooking ( NuWave stove top with all pans; electric stainless skillet , microwave, electric kettle, crock pot. Bath has lots of hot water and new shower stall. Heat is wood or infrared electric heat.
The cabin was so cozy. It was a perfect little getaway for just my husband and I. We were close to everything We wanted to do and the setting of the cabin itself was so quiet and peaceful. The owner went above and beyond in making sure we had everything we needed. We loved our stay!
We wholeheartedly recommend staying at this cabin! My wife and I stayed here for five nights, and we had our small dog with us too. The owner was very gracious, approachable and outgoing, and we immediately felt at home staying here. The cabin itself has two main rooms plus a bathroom, so for three or fewer people, it's ideal. October days in Bonners Ferry start to get a bit chilly, so we put the cabin's wood stove through its paces. It also has an electric infrared heater if you're sensitive to wood smoke. The owner replaced the mattress in the back room shortly before our stay, making the queen-sized bed one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on. The front bed is very good as well.
The cabin is located at a convenient spot about three to four miles north of downtown Bonners Ferry, with easy access to U.S. 95; and there is a barn and open area where the owner's horse, Mika, spends time. She even showed me how to feed Mika one morning and give her a few crunchy horse treats--how fun! The owner's dog, Addie, will want to come over to the cabin in the morning and greet you. I joked with her that Addie should be trained to bring over a breakfast tray and the place could alternatively be made into a bed and breakfast!
The only negative--and it's a very minor one to us: The kitchen area is small, so it takes a little getting used to preparing food around it. Even so, the refrigerator was plenty large for us, and we had plenty of dishes and utensils, as well as an electric teakettle, toaster and cooktop provided.
In summary, our experience at this cabin helped to make our vacation one of the very best we've ever had. Location, facility, owner--all excellent!
Quiet and immediately comfortable. All the basic stuff is available in this clean and cozy cabin. Just a short jaunt to town for anything you forgot. The new woodstove seriously gets the job done. Lee is a welcoming host and it shows that a lot of thought goes into making the cabin a great home base for wandering the Wildlife preserves, watching the trees change colors, listening to the trains (I love those trains) or a reader's vacation. Bonner's Ferry isn't a place you can fully appreciate if you don't hang out awhile. Had a wonderful time.
My husband and I came here to look the area over for retirement next year. We didn't want a hotel or even a trailer camp, we wanted to meet the people, ask questions and feel what it would be like to live here. This cabin in the woods along with the owners and animals gave us the experience we were hoping for. The owners are warm and friendly introducing us to Mica, their rescue horse, Addie their border collie, who loves company and Pinto, one of their cats came over for a good scratch. The cabin is cozy with everything you need. We will definitely be back.
This cabin was exactly what we needed for a relaxing time away! We don't do a lot of camping but we love being outdoors . This was the perfect blend of that. Quiet cabin in the trees with few people around and we were able to totally relax. Yet there was a full bathroom with a great shower, comfy bed and basic kitchen to make our own meals.. Very close to Bonner's Ferry town site and lots of hiking and sightseeing in the area. We particularly like the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge and saw many deer and moose here at dusk. Sandpoint is only 30-40 min away too where we could enjoy the beautiful lake and more hiking. The owners were friendly and welcoming but we had plenty of privacy. Overall great place and we would love to come back!
The cabin is a much more full featured cabin then I thought it would be initially. I read a review that said it was rustic, but after staying it seemed less like a cabin and more like a guesthouse. I would not term it rustic. The heater they have works fast and is very nice. The water is hot and makes for a great shower. The bathroom is very nice and even private from the rest of the guesthouse. The fridge works great, and most important, is quiet. I have stayed with loud small fridges in the past and this one is not running all the time and when it is it is quiet.
We didn't need to use more heat then the electric provided, and it heated up the room in about 30 mins. The rocker is great and can fit 2 people provided you are not too big. The cookplate is actually very nice, I have used them in the past and they make great eggs and heat very consistently across the surface. Supplied tea and condiments are good. I would have liked an automatic coffee machine, but the town has an awesome coffee spot so its not a big deal. They do have a french press, if you are good with that.
They have honey bees out away from the quarters and I didnt see any bees close to us. I was even able to get them to sell me some honey which is some of the most flavorful I have had. They have a horse on site also who does some tricks, you have to ask no spoilers here. They do have a dog also so you probably want to let them know if your bringing one. Cat on premise was friendly to us, and super fluffy and cute.
The owners are so nice I was shocked. Insightful and pleasant. So very different then what you experience in a place like Austin. We mentioned we eat fish and like smoked salmon, and the owner found us some fresh smoked at the farmers market! It is amazing flavor and texture and we have enjoyed LOX and bagels every day since! How nice is that? Sidenote on technology, Sprint doesnt work in Bonner Ferry, so its wifi. Verizon apparently does work well in the area. Lets talk about the town.
Bonner Ferry has an older section and a newer section. Up the hill before the river is the newer part. It has the Super1, good organic selection. Somehow I was zoned and missed it driving in. The old part of town is quaint and awesome. Do a waterfall tour for a day! Drive to BC!
Under The Sun and Organic Bistro: 6 stars! The food is made with such love. The smoked salmon wrap, OMG. Veggie Panini yum. The bread! THE BREAD!!! Awesome Coffee drinks. Amazing staff.
Love this area.
