Casa-Rio is fully furnished, including WiFi and laundry, in the best location in Cuenca!! It is on the Rio Tomebamba, which flows through the center of town. Nearby stone steps lead up from the river to the city center's cathedrals, restaurants, museums, and markets. A bridge leads across the river to parks, supermarkets, modern hospitals, and a movie complex; all within four or five blocks of the apartment.
Casa-Rio is modern and spacious, especially suitable for families or groups, and less expensive than a hotel. It has all the conveniences and comforts of home in the midst of a vibrant native culture.
You can surf the internet, watch DirecTV with many English-language channels, do your laundry, cook your favorite foods, or just sip coffee on your private balcony overlooking the river.
Casa-Rio is a two story, 3500 square feet home with two master suites with queen beds and en suite baths. One bath has a jetted tub in addition to a separate shower. The third bedroom has twin beds and opens onto a large balcony. The fourth bedroom is set up as an office with a small sofabed. The third bath has a bathtub and separate shower.
Located on the fourth and fifth floor of a secure six-unit building, Casa-Rio has views of the river, mountains, and Parque de la Madre from three balconies. There is no elevator, but a guard will help you carry your luggage up the stairs.
From the balcony you can watch daily life in a different culture. See kids walking to school and folks getting on and off the bus. In the park across the river, watch families playing soccer, jogging on the path, or just eating ice cream. Listen to concerts and events. Observe parades and maybe even demonstrations. Watch women doing laundry in the river and sweethearts sitting in the sun. All without leaving the balcony!
When you arrive you will be met at the airport and taken to the condo. Your driver will give you the keys and explain how things work. He is also available for hire to help with translation or to take you anywhere you want to go, such as the mineral baths or the Inca ruins at Ingapirca.
In the condo is information on local places of interest. There are directions to markets, restaurants, and an English bookstore with helpful owners. We have included the phone number of a good doctor who speaks English and will come to the house in the middle of the night if you need him.
We've set up Casa-Rio to make your vacation relaxed and interesting. We want you to be comfortable while you enjoy Ecuador!
Keywords: Secure building of six units, near park, restaurants, museums, supermarket, transportation. Walk up to penthouse apartment.
We are a retired couple who live in Texas when we can't be at home in Ecuador. We love to travel and to meet fellow travelers.
Carolyn Walker purchased this condo in 2009
Cuenca is a combination of spring-like weather all year round, mountain views, native Andean culture, low cost of living, eight universities, modern medical care, and airport access. Ecuador is tourist-friendly and uses the US dollar. Burger King and Papa John's Pizza are available for those days you've just got to have familiar food.
I like being in the center of the city where I can walk to everything. But I still have the gentle sound of the river flowing by. Most of all, I enjoy watching daily life on the riverbank.
We have rented this condo for a month, four years in a row. It is absolutely perfect which is why we keep coming back. In fact, it has begun to feel like "home" to us. The condo is huge with plenty of room and every amenity for a large family or three couples traveling together. We hosted a large party this trip (18 people) and had plenty of room for entertaining, seating and serving. The location is ideal - just up the escalinata (stairs) to El Centro (the old Spanish colonial part of town) with its shopping, services, markets and many restaurants from a $2.00 almuerzo (lunch) to an upscale dinner with candles and linen tablecloths. Or walk in the other direction about a block to Parque de la Madre for a jog around the track or just an enjoyable rest under the trees. Another couple of blocks past there is a SuperMaxi (large American style grocery store) and the Cuenca Deportivo soccer stadium. Everything you need is within easy walking distance. You can travel to other parts of town for a $2.00 to $2.50 cab ride. The owner, Carolyn Walker, is great to work with, as is the American couple living in Cuenca that she has assisting her with local needs. We highly recommend Casa Rio for these reasons as well as for the reasons other reviewers have mentioned.
Wonderful location. Exactly as advertised. This 4 bedroom, spacious condo is located on the edge of the colonial city, within a five minute walk to the heart of old Cuenca. It is on the River, and hence, away from traffic and other noise. It was extremely clean, and the owner had arranged to have fruit, bread, coffee, and fresh roses awaiting our arrival. She arranged for us to be met at the airport, and transported to the condo, and also included transfers at the end of our 9-day stay. The condo had cable with premium channels, two computers and a printer, a Bose sound station, DVD player, cell phone for local use, and countless other amenities. Carolyn thought of everything and was a delight to work with on planning our trip. I strongly recommend this beautiful property for a group (there were three of us) where your every need as a home away from home will be met (washer/dryer, microwave, other appliances, etc). Truly a wonderful vacation home in a lovely South American city, and a thoroughly professional owner who was a joy to work with. A+++++++
Just completed a one month stay here for the second year in a row. We love it. Ideal location, very spacious and comfortable condo with many, many extras. It's even equipped with a Bose Sound Dock for playing your IPod! If you've never before visited Cuenca check this place out! If it's not your first trip but you chose a "lesser" accommodation before, you'll appreciate this attractive condo all the more.
Our family of 4 had a wonderful one month stay in this beautiful apartment. The location is perfect...right on the Tomebamba River, across from a great park (walking track, playgrounds, and weekly special events), and next to the old town area. The apartment is spacious, well-decorated, and set up well for cooking. We arrived in the evening, and were so happy to discover that initial groceries and breakfast items had been provided, so we didn't need to worry about rushing out for groceries. It was great to have a desktop computer and printer available for our use, and the wifi and TV coverage were excellent. There is lots of space, spread out over two floors, which we really appreciated after nine months of traveling. This was our last stop on our extended trip, and was a delightful place to conclude our travels. We feel like we saved the best for last!
A beautiful modern place. All the appliances worked. Good pressure and plenty of hot water. Numerous balconies; we especially loved the one overlooking the river. I would highly recommend this place for your stay in cuenca.
In the Cuenca area: parades and local celebrations, tours to nearby towns, Cajas National Park, Ingapirca Inca ruins. Tours may be arranged with our local representative.
On the coast: We recommend Casa Grande, a great B&B in Bahia de Caraquez. The owner, Patricio Tamariz also has a new book about the history and archeology of the Ecuador coast The Secret of Paradise: Mysteries of the Pacific Coast of Ecuador. Ask about his tour of a nearby archeological site.
