With 2 bedrooms (each with a queen bed) and 2 full baths, along with a full sofa bed in the living room, Comet Cove can sleep a maximum of 6 people, including infants and children. This convenient location is a block from Mirror Lake Drive and less than a ten-minute walk to Lake Placid’s downtown and its many fine restaurants. At the Lake Placid Marina next door to the condo building, you can take a boat cruise around the lake and rent kayaks and canoes. Also, you can take advantage of the Lake Placid Free Trolley, which you can catch just a block away. The trolley runs on a continuous loop around the Village, with stops that include the Olympic Center. It also stops five blocks away at the High Peaks Resort, where you can take another free shuttle that runs during the winter to Whiteface Mountain (15-20 minutes away) and points in-between.
There is absolutely no smoking indoors and no pets are ever allowed.
Minimum stay is 3 nights. Exceptions are during Iron Man, when the minimum stay is a week, and during the winter and summer high seasons and the December holidays, when the minimum stay is 5 days.
We live outside of Philadelphia and discovered Lake Placid in 2012, when we bought our first condo (Comet Place, HomeAway #377776), an ADK-themed 3 BR unit a couple blocks from town. We enjoyed the area so much, we bought Comet Cove in November 2014 so we could visit and rent more often. The 'comet' is part of our love story, so it in the name of the two condos we love in Lake Placid!
Gale Wood/Dave Dewsnap purchased this condo in 2014
Comet Cove is a luxury condo located between Lake Placid and Mirror Lake, with a wide, breathtaking view of Lake Placid and its mountains. It is less than a ten minute walk from Lake Placid's picture-perfect downtown, with its many restaurants and shops. We walk around Mirror Lake almost every day!
The view is so spectacular and soothing that many hours can be spent staring at it! With ample parking and nearby shuttles, this luxury condo with its gourmet kitchen is ideally located for whatever you want to do in and around Lake Placid!
From Guest Journal: "Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. It made my recuperation from surgery actually pleasant. I feel rejuvenated again! It was wonderful being able to walk to town to shop, eat and play tennis daily (perfect for by boys!) The attention to detail at Comet Cove made us feel like we were in our special ADK camp---wonderful atmosphere! I hope we can visit again…the sooner the better!!"
On our third visit to Comet Cove we were surprised to find a very beautiful 15" of snow on the ground. This really highlighted the view, and the mountains that surround the lake! We could still walk around Mirror Lake, because the sidewalks are plowed and clear. But we most enjoyed the Village, eating at Great Adirondack Brewing, going to a movie at the theater, and walking among the shops enjoying the Christmas light displays that started the day after Thanksgiving.
The condo is a great place to be cozy in front of the fire when it's cold. It is easy to feel right at home. You can tell the owners enjoy their own time there and are happy to share the same experience with us!
Should Walt Disney want to design a theme park for a winter haven (Winterland?), he could not do better than Lake Placid and Comet Cove would be the perfect place to stay - quiet, overlooking Lake Placid and only a short walk from the Main street stores and restaurants of "downtown". Comet Cove is both cosy and luxurious with a fireplace, well provided for kitchen, and ample room for six (two bedrooms and a huge fold out sofa in the living room). Can't think of a better place to be in winter. We look forward to coming back.
Gale and Dave's home in Comet Cove is a very special place. Situated on the shores of Lake Placid, with its terrace overlooking the lake makes it a beautiful place to sit and have drinks and hors d'oeuvres late in the afternoon, relaxing after a days worth of hiking in the Adirondacks. The condo has everything necessary for comfort and entertainment. There is a large open plan living room, dining room, kitchen area. There are two very comfortable bedrooms. The bathrooms are large and well equipped. There is a washer dryer that is easy to use. The condo is situated close to the downtown area of Lake Placid, making it comfortable to reach the restaurant of your choice. We ate in three very good ones while we were there.
Comet Cove has a fabulous view of both Lake Placid and the mountains. The owners, Gale and Dave, are very welcoming. They leave the kitchen well stocked with staples so we could easily cook when we wanted to. We shared the space with another couple and found the place very roomy. The comfortable couches in the living room and great views from the dining room made it hard to leave the condo. But, town is only a quick walk away with lots of fun shops to explore. When we wanted to take longer excursions, the view from the mountain was inspiring. Placid must be beautiful in all seasons, but nothing can beat the fabulous fall colors we saw. We will definitely stay at Comet Cove when we return to Lake Placid.
Comet Cove was everything that we thought it would be and more! It is both lakefront and within walking distance to town. The condo itself is immaculate and has ever amenity you could need. My children appreciated the board games and dvds which were a really nice touch. The beds and furniture are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is fantastic. The views of the lake can be seen from the kitchen, living and dining rooms. I had my coffee every morning on the outside patio which was truly a lovely way to start the day. There were binders left with menus from local restaurants and brochures for area destinations. We felt completely welcomed and at home. We walked down to the marina one afternoon and rented a boat for 2 hours to take out onto the Lake. It was easy and very close to the condo. We could walk into town whenever we wanted and when we did drive into town, we had no problem locating parking. I honestly could not possibly rate this property any higher or recommend it with any more enthusiasm. We hope to return again sometime!
Well, we didn't think it was possible, but hosts Gale and Dave have managed to out do themselves with another gem of a property in Lake Placid!
We have enjoyed previous stays at their original property, Comet Place, and were thrilled by its charm and location. We decided to change it up a bit and stay at Comet Cove and it did not disappoint! The obvious advantage is the accessibility to Lake Placid and oh, that view! Still walkable to everything on Main Street as well as Mirror Lake Drive, this condo has all of the charm of the original property with a few added extras, such as a 2nd full bath and washer and dryer. Gale and Dave happened to be in town and it was our pleasure to be able to meet them upon our arrival.
If you are looking for the perfect Lake Placid experience, look no further - you will find it here at this very special property owned by a very special couple!
Lake Placid and the surrounding area are great places for birding, hiking, biking and fly-fishing, in addition to the full range of winter, summer and lake sports. You can rent canoes, kayaks, bikes, etc. nearby and you can fish off the Lake Placid Marina pier and swim in the lake. There's a free shuttle that runs all year around the Olympic Village, with a stop near the Harbor Condos on Mirror Lake Drive. There is even a little garden park across the street, beautiful in any season. We love walking the beautiful 2.7 mile path around Mirror Lake each day we can, a block away from Comet Cove!
