After sharing the world with golf legends and appearing in tournaments with greats Tom Weiscoph, Raymond Floyd, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and numerious other ledgends I decided to settle in Kailua-Kona. I invite you to “Dukes” house named after my Godfather famed Hawaii legend Duke Kahanamoku. I'm honored to be named after my godfather Duke Kahanamoku.

located on a loop street so there is no drive through traffic. The neighborhood is upscale with underground utilities and building requirements. The view is mesmerizing and parking is safe, secure and free.

What makes this house unique

Location of this ocean view home is directly above Kailua-Kona but without the traffic noise and drive-by traffic. We are on a loop street (Kini Loop) so the cars on the street are not driving aimlessly around. Utilities are underground and the neighborhood is clean safe and secure. We are 1.5 miles from the pier and the start of the Iron-Man triathalon race

The view and a great friendly host spoiled our vacation

We have rented the apartment for 2 couples and received such a warm personal welcome from Rory the owner. He did everything at it´s best and offered help and gave informations.

In a nice neighborhood and a short drive from Kona center with a remarkable view from the balcony.

Fresh papaya from his garden and herbs were offered and his friendly Hawaiian nature was great to know.

Beach gear, many informations and books about the island and personal notes he left to make a trip to Big Island unforgettable. I

f you are looking for a personal touch - that´s the person to rent an apartment from. Hope to return someday.

Wish we could have stayed longer!

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Myself and my sister stayed here for 3 nights and found the 2 bedroom, huge house so comfortable. It has a great, well equipped large kitchen with plenty of the essential supplies such as herbs, spices, sugar, etc. Also a large living and dining area. The fabulous lanai wraps around all three sides of the property with great views and lovely outdoor seating for relaxing in the evening, with the resident geckos keeping all the bugs at bay.

Great location just a short drive from Kailua-Kona town - and really you can explore the whole island from here. We moved on to Hilo after here but wished we had stayed in Kona as we could have accessed everything from there (in fact we even came back to Kona from Hilo to take an air tour and it was an easy drive across the saddle road - less than 2 hours on a clear morning).

Rory is the perfect host. Great communication and information before we arrived. Perfect level of interaction while we were there. He gave some great tips and recommendations - had even just replaced his "Big Island Revealed" guide book which his last guests had accidentally left with - with additional annotations of personal recommendations (We highly recommend Splasher's for dinner & Mojitos!). Rory allowed us our privacy also but made it very clear that he was contactable for advice or any help needed. He even offered us a late check-out as he didn't have guests arriving that day.

All in all, we loved this place, would highly recommend it and Big Island, and would return in a heartbeat if we ever get the opportunity.

What a great place to stay in Kona!

We absolutely loved our stay at Duke's House. My husband and I stayed there for a month. Another couple stayed with us for 10 days. We had plenty of room with the two bedrooms. There is a spacious kitchen, dining and living area. We had everything we needed as far as kitchen supplies and even spices. The bathroom has two sinks and the shower/toilet area is divided by a sliding door. This gave everybody plenty of privacy and room to get ready. The wrap-around deck was great for viewing the ocean, the cruise ship each week and the beautiful sunsets. Rory was a great host. We can't say enough good things about his hospitality. We had access to boogie boards, coolers, snorkeling equipment, umbrellas, beach chairs, and beach mats. It was a great location in a family-friendly neighborhood. It is very close to the downtown area and was in a great location for driving to the beaches, shopping areas, etc. Rory even had bikes for us to use. My husband rode quite a bit around the neighborhood and downtown. Just a warning though: it's all uphill on the way back! Some of the decorating and furniture could use a few updates, but that absolutely did not deter from our stay there. It was beginning to really feel like home when we had to leave. We would love to stay here again. Thanks Rory!
