Nice get away
We enjoyed our stay, had everything right at the camp that anyone would need. We did alot of traveling visiting St. John, St Andrews and also St. Martins but it was always nice to come back to the camp and relax. The beach was nice sitting on waiting for high tide, very quiet and peaceful. If anyone is looking for a nice relaxing place , this is where you would find it.
Wonderful location if looking for quiet location to relax! Kids loved the beach combing! Lots of room and everything that you need! Would highly recommend.
Our family of 6 really enjoyed our time at Shawnee & Doug's cottage at New River Beach! The cottage itself is great - spacious, clean, accommodating - everything that we needed. It was nice that things like condiments, towels, as well as bathroom & kitchen supplies are included so that we didn't have to pack any more stuff, or purchase them locally. The beds are comfy, which is a big plus whenever renting a vacation home - you never know what you're going to get.
Having the ocean at your doorstep is also a big plus! It was nice to go down and enjoy the view, do some beachcombing or dip your toes in the ocean. The sounds of the waves on the beach are a really nice way to wake up in the morning.
Within a short distance, there are many many things to do and to see. We traveled to Grand Manan Island for a day. did some whale watching in St. Andrews, explored the sea caves in St. Martins, spent an evening in the city of Saint John - and traveled further to Fundy National Park and the Hopewell Rocks. Let's not forget that the New River Beach Provincial Park is a short walk away.
Highly recommended location for a family getaway, or couples retreat! We will definitely be back to New Brunswick for another visit.
Excellent location, great owner, and superb beach access
We are a family of four with two kids. The location and the house is more than we expected. House is equipped with all kitchen needs, location is perfect to start your day trips along the Bay of Fundy. Shawnee was open and easy to communicate with. She will email you her recommendations, pay attention to them as they summerized exactly what you want to see. The beach is awesome and with amazing views. Walkie talkies may be advisable if your kids are mature enough and want to wonder off to the beach while the adults are still in the house. Thanks again and would stay again!
Great spot for families to stay
We stayed her in July 2016 with our 2 kids ages 9 and 11. The house is well-equipped and very comfortable, our kids preferred to sleep upstairs on the pull out but the 2 bedrooms and bathroom in the walkout basement provide lots of room for families or groups (teens would like the separate space). The house is on a cul-de-sac so the area is very quiet, at night you hear the waves on the beach so sleep comes easy.
It is right by New River Beach, but we never went as the kids were happiest playing on the beach at the house, which we nearly always had to ourselves. We saw porpoises and seals in the cove, I suggest renting a kayak to be able to get on the water (local outfitters will drop it off). Barnaby Head Trail is right next door and makes for a fantastic short hike, it takes about 2 hours so bring some snacks if you have younger kids to keep them happy.
We went to St John, Dipper Harbour, and St Andrews (fishing and whale watching) for day trips. Local seafood from the 4Cs and blueberry pies from roadside stands were highlights at mealtimes. Shawnee was easy to deal with and very helpful with area information. Upon returning home I promptly missed my plans being dictated by whether the tide was going in or going out. There is a lot to do in the Fundy area (we never made it to Deer Island or Grand Manan) and will certainly stay here again if we return.
Great vacation experience
This was a great place to stay and I can’t really think of anything to make it better. The home was very comfortable for two couple and offered a lot of privacy. The living room, kitchen (very well equipped), and dining area were very spacious and comfortable with great views of the Bay of Fundy. The master bedroom is on the main floor as well as a half bath. The downstairs is a bright walk out basement, two comfortable bedrooms, a sitting room, full bathroom and laundry area. There were plenty of towels and pillows.
The location is remote and quiet but easy to get to. So this is not the rental for you if you are looking for a wild time! However, we were looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation home and we were not disappointed! If you like hiking, nature, and quiet beach walking you will love this home. On the property you have a short walk through a small wooded area to get to the stairs that lead to the essentially private beach. The home is adjacent to a provincial park with lots of hiking paths and great views.
We went to Saint John and St. Andrews several times and both were easy to get to. We all agreed that it was a good location since the rental was about halfway between the two towns (about 30 minutes to each location).
Shawnee was a great host to work with. From the time we started inquiring about the house to the time we we had to leave she communicated regularly with us about the area and things to do. She even sent a few pictures of the beach and what you could find on walks! She highly recommended making reservations well in advance for dinner at the Rossmount Inn in St. Andrews. Anyone visiting the area needs to visit there-- a wonderful meal with great service.
Overall, our visit to New Brunswick was great and working with the owners couldn't have been better.
