Located equidistant from St Andrews and Saint John New Brunswick, this waterfront home overlooks the Bay of Fundy and is close to many of the numerous, picturesque fishing villages that the New Brunswick coast is known for. Perched high above the beach, this magnificently situated home consists of a master en suite with queen bed and two guest bedrooms that share a bathroom with double sinks and a private sitting area. Additional features include a fully equipped, modern kitchen, a large open living/dining area with hardwood floors and two large decks with panoramic views of the bay, fishing weirs and the rugged New Brunswick coast.
With a cup of your favorite morning beverage, enjoy the sound of the surf while watching the sunrise from the Master Bedroom deck. Read the summer novel du jour on the private, sandy beach as the sun warms your face. Bird watching, hiking, kayaking, biking or just relaxing will make this a memorable experience.
Enjoy shopping and the remarkable restaurants in St. Andrews. Drive your car across the sandbar to visit historic Ministers Island. If you wish to stay closer to home, nearby Pennfield a local blueberry stand makes fabulous treats to tempt you. You may be surprised to find a scrumptious salmon pate and other delicacies to enjoy at Stuart's Supperette just a bit further down the road. After a delicious meal on the deck and a short walk, you can experience a spectacular sunset at New River Beach Provincial Park.
We stayed her in July 2016 with our 2 kids ages 9 and 11. The house is well-equipped and very comfortable, our kids preferred to sleep upstairs on the pull out but the 2 bedrooms and bathroom in the walkout basement provide lots of room for families or groups (teens would like the separate space). The house is on a cul-de-sac so the area is very quiet, at night you hear the waves on the beach so sleep comes easy.
It is right by New River Beach, but we never went as the kids were happiest playing on the beach at the house, which we nearly always had to ourselves. We saw porpoises and seals in the cove, I suggest renting a kayak to be able to get on the water (local outfitters will drop it off). Barnaby Head Trail is right next door and makes for a fantastic short hike, it takes about 2 hours so bring some snacks if you have younger kids to keep them happy.
We went to St John, Dipper Harbour, and St Andrews (fishing and whale watching) for day trips. Local seafood from the 4Cs and blueberry pies from roadside stands were highlights at mealtimes. Shawnee was easy to deal with and very helpful with area information. Upon returning home I promptly missed my plans being dictated by whether the tide was going in or going out. There is a lot to do in the Fundy area (we never made it to Deer Island or Grand Manan) and will certainly stay here again if we return.
This was a great place to stay and I can’t really think of anything to make it better. The home was very comfortable for two couple and offered a lot of privacy. The living room, kitchen (very well equipped), and dining area were very spacious and comfortable with great views of the Bay of Fundy. The master bedroom is on the main floor as well as a half bath. The downstairs is a bright walk out basement, two comfortable bedrooms, a sitting room, full bathroom and laundry area. There were plenty of towels and pillows.
The location is remote and quiet but easy to get to. So this is not the rental for you if you are looking for a wild time! However, we were looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation home and we were not disappointed! If you like hiking, nature, and quiet beach walking you will love this home. On the property you have a short walk through a small wooded area to get to the stairs that lead to the essentially private beach. The home is adjacent to a provincial park with lots of hiking paths and great views.
We went to Saint John and St. Andrews several times and both were easy to get to. We all agreed that it was a good location since the rental was about halfway between the two towns (about 30 minutes to each location).
Shawnee was a great host to work with. From the time we started inquiring about the house to the time we we had to leave she communicated regularly with us about the area and things to do. She even sent a few pictures of the beach and what you could find on walks! She highly recommended making reservations well in advance for dinner at the Rossmount Inn in St. Andrews. Anyone visiting the area needs to visit there-- a wonderful meal with great service.
Overall, our visit to New Brunswick was great and working with the owners couldn't have been better.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the New River Beach cottage. There were 4 adults, one couple and 2 singles all over 60. The cottage allowed for separation and privacy. All the bedrooms were beautifully decorated and the beds were very comfortable. (thanks, Shawnee and Doug). There was lots to do in the area but you definitely need a car. My one reservation was the access to the private beach. If you are not reasonably fit and sure footed, it was a bit of a challenge. However, on the upside, the provincial beach is less than a 15 minute walk and is absolutely gorgeous! I would definitely recommend this cottage.
What a wonderful week with great friends! So much to do. Whale watch tour in Saint Andrews, reversing falls in Saint John, Hopewell Rocks, and Fundy Trail. Great place to really enjoy the Bay of Fundy. Loved coming back to our house each day. It is roomy, wonderfully clean, and a great kitchen to celebrate with an awesome seafood feast House sits up on a hill with great view of the bay, with steps down to a large, rocky beach. Our first day there we picked up a dinner of fresh mussels at low tide.
You HAVE to have a car here, there is nothing within walking distance, at least in September when the nearby New River Beach park is closed.
We are 3 couples who do a lot of traveling and usually rent thru VRBO. We were all very pleased when we walked into the house. It was one of the few houses we have rented that actually was nicer than the photos.
A couple of (small) criticisms: the house could use an instruction sheet (we had to blunder upon the wifi, could not get tvs to work properly) there is a minimum of washcloths, the shower in the master bathroom is tiny despite the bathroom being very large and it is a fairly long drive to get to all the amazing things to see here (but it is centrally located to the things mentioned earlier)
None of that is to say we would not hesitate to rent this house again in the future.
Be sure to visit McKay's on 175 for incredible wild blueberry pies, and if you are looking for fine dining try the Rossmount Inn near St. Andrews. It is a long drive to Hopewell Rocks, but worth it.
We loved the view. Enjoyed the weather! And had many days on the beach. We had such a relaxing time. The home meet our expectations. Great place to go to with children. We had all the comforts of home. Kids loved picking the wild strawberries. As for me I wish I was there during blueberry season!!!The location was great for us, not to long of a drive to Saint John to visit family. Thanks Doug and Shawnwee for sharing your getaway home with us!
