About Mary Pace - Hunker Down

My dream was to own a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. I have been visiting GSM since late 60's. My husband and I purchased the cabin and love visiting Hunker Down.

In February 2014 we purchased property in Tellico Plains, which is still part of the Great Smoky Mountains. It is our goal to begin building cabins in 2015.

Mary Pace - Hunker Down purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Mary Pace - Hunker Down chose Tennessee

We love the location and close to everything. We purchased this cabin because the property had room to enjoy as it is not on top of another cabin. Another plus was it is not hanging over a cliff. The yard is large and plenty of room for the kids to play. The street has five cabins on it but each property is over 1/2 acre and we own up the back of the mountain. There are no cabins directly in front.

What makes this cabin unique

We love to sit on the porch at the pub table and relax. We enjoy both the summer and winter view of the mountain, the quietness of the area and relaxing.

Cozy and welcoming!

We had a great time visiting! Everything worked great and we had no complaints about our stay other than we wish we could have stayed longer. Had everything we needed to fix our food and then some! Loved the decorations around the house.

a beautiful getaway

  • 5 of 5

we loved our stay at the cabin. truly enjoyed the rustic look of a log cabin, has everything you need. It was clean and maintained, also close

to all the attractions. Peaceful and quiet especially after a busy day. Also appreciated the quick response back when we booked, and

the extra information. Definitely would like to come back in the fall to enjoy the colours and cooler temperatures. Would recommend

this cabin to our friends and family and anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay with the comforts of home.

Thank you for making our stay a beautiful place to come to. Jay and Jacqueline

Very nice and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Hunker down was very nice for my family. It was perfect size and very clean inside and out. Very close to everything. It is about 10 mins from Peigon forge. Only thing I was suggest would be road coming in is very rough so be careful after the you turn off first road to get to the cabin it is more smoother road. Over all we love it!!

Great location...close to everything, yet you feel miles away from it all

  • 4 of 5

This was our second year to stay in "Hunker Down" cabin. We came back because our first visit was so relaxing and the cabin was great. This year was a little different. The day after we arrived, we discovered yellow jackets upstairs in the bedroom. They were swarming and my husband was stung. It was Sunday and the owner couldn't find anyone to come out immediately, so we stayed downstairs that night. A man was there early Monday morning and took care of the problem. He was very professional and polite. The owner of the cabin gave us a partial refund and apologized for our trouble. That being said, we still enjoyed our stay and finished out the week there. When you stay in the mountains and surround yourself with forests and nature, you're bound to run into some insects sooner or later. The hot tub on the porch is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to relax and listen to the sounds of the birds and nature all around you.

A very calm and stress free visit, everything was as advertised with no surprises.

  • 4 of 5

This was our first log cabin rental experience, I searched many, many listings and this one was the one that seemed to be right.

The description in the ad was exactly what we got, being our first experience, there were no surprises. The owner answered all my questions, and served me well. I would recommend this cabin to anyone.

I was disappointed that the wood fireplace wasn't available due to state laws, but this was explained to me before we arrived. I wish that charcoal and lighter fluid would have been included, so we wouldn't have to travel with them, not a deal breaker though. I thought it had a gas grill, but that was my mistake.

I would have liked a better place to eat, the straight leg stools were a little tricky.

We stayed our whole stay at the cabin (3 days/2 nights), Pigeon Forge activities aren't our style, we came for peace and quiet, for the most part we got that.

THANKS...for making our first time a success.
