Just steps from the water, Sunrise Cottage is the quintessential oceanfront beach cottage - comfy furniture, wide plank wood floors, warm salt air breezes, and ocean views to soothe the soul. The front porch is a favorite spot for watching the ocean's changing moods (and whales during winter months). A blend of east coast Cape Cod and Hawaiian plantation styles, our vintage cottage is spacious and light with simple furnishings - everything you will need for a relaxing, rejuvenating Kauai get-away.
THE INTERIOR: French doors and large picture windows in the living/dining room afford panoramic ocean views. Two of the three bedrooms have queen-size beds and the same unforgettable ocean view. The third bedroom, furnished with two twin beds (optional King upon request), is a quiet retreat. The house comfortably accommodates up to six people.
NEED MORE ROOM? The optional adjacent Moonrise Guest Cottage offers another bedroom and bath for up to 2 more people, a total of 8 in both cottages (4 bedrooms/3 baths). Moonrise Guest Cottage is available for just $950 a week.
The recently remodeled kitchen offers gourmet cooks as well as microwavers a spectacular oceanview. The stainless steel countertop, checkerboard floor, and glassfront cabinets are reminiscent of vintage cottage decor. The upgraded appliances and granite-topped peninsula make it a cook's dream.
Both cottages are equipped with WiFi, flat-screen TVs, DVD player, iPod or iPhone docking station with speakers, all linens including beach towels, ceiling fans, down and faux-down bed pillows.
THE PATH: An exciting NEW feature is the Seaside Walking and Biking Path that runs along the ocean, right past the property. Visitors enjoy the Path for exploring the coastline, past Kapaa Town, beaches and amazing ocean vistas. Kapaa has been voted one of America's Top 15 Prettiest Small Cities (Aug 2013) by Forbes Magazine, come and see why.
THE BEACH: Just in front of the cottage, less than 30 steps from the front porch, is the soft sand and warm waters of 'Baby Beach,' one of the safest swimming beaches on the island for small children. Here you can enjoy kayaking (you'll find a double kayak at the cottage), snorkeling, or even SCUBA for lobster in season. The quiet waterfront vintage neighborhood is just a short stroll from Kapaa Town, with charming shops and restaurants.

Charlie and I have been married for 46 years and have two grown daughters. We divide our time between our cottages on Kauai and Portland, Oregon. Charlie has retired from the high tech world where he was a consultant and trainer. I am a retired graphic designer, now a dedicated hiker and exercise fanatic.
Susan purchased this cottage in 1998
We visited Kauai for the first time in 1996, absolutely loved it, and upon leaving fantasized about living here, if just for a short time. But unlike so many fantasies, this one came true. We rented Sunrise Cottage (#53371) for 18 months and ultimately purchased the property, soon adding Moonrise Cottage as a second rental. The experience of being right on the ocean is like no other, we love watching the weather cross the sky, the colors and moods of the ocean change. The property is within walking distance of vintage Kapaa Town, recently recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America's prettiest small towns (Aug '13), and central to all the many wonderful things to do and see on the island.
The front lawn of Sunrise Cottage is situated to enjoy the unforgettable sun and moon rises over the ocean, which we celebrate regularly. We use the new seaside walking/biking path almost every day to walk into town, to Kealia Beach or just for some exercise. The short three mile drive to Sleeping Giant Mountain hiking trail is one of our regular expeditions, giving great cardio and amazing views of the entire eastern shoreline of the island. Our sweet little neighborhood is quiet and tucked away yet convenient for shopping, services and for getting around the island.
My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and our duel retirement with a month long trip to Hawaii and Japan. We spent our last travel week in Sunrise Cottage; it was an experience I had been dreaming of since we began the planning of this trip. This home is gorgeous and sits at the edge of the ocean, with only a neighborhood street between the lawn and the water. There is no beach in front of the home, but that is not important. The sunrise and the moonrise are in full view from the veranda. It is just stunning. The kitchen has every gadget anyone might need for cooking. There is a wonderful laundry space with new Samsung washer and dryer. The home is immaculate! In the back, there is a grill (we did not cook) and a lovely private deck. The home is surrounded by palms so privacy is no concern, though the house is located in a neighborhood. Location is perfect for anything you might want to do. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance of the home. We loved the miles long pedestrian walk which began along the water's edge. We could not have been happier. Thank you, Susan, for the opportunity to enjoy your beautiful home in Kauai!
I rented both Sunrise and Moonrise cottages last year for a very special vacation with my two grown children and their spouses, and one grandchild. We loved everything about our trip--the location was perfect for exploring the island, the town of Kapaa was charming, the walking/bike path winds right along the beautiful coastline, and being right on the ocean gave us easy access to Baby Beach and the continual peace of the waves and breezes. Everything we could have possibly wanted for cooking was right at hand, including a great barbecue. I returned this summer for a week "solo"--and loved my time at Sunrise just as much. I spent hours on the porch reading novels and watching the ocean, peaceful evenings being soothed by the sound of the waves, and a few side trips to Poipu and Hanalei. I came home refreshed and looking forward to my next visit to this beautiful home away from home. Truly a slice of paradise!!!
Our group rented both Cottages for 8 days in February, into early March. The cottages are perfectly located, with a short walk/bike ride to everything in Kapa'a. We loved the walk/bike path in front of the cottages which extends along the shore for several miles. The cottages are both SO well equipped; everything we could possibly need for a large group. The monk seals frequented Baby Beach (a short walk on the path) and kept us captivated! We hope to return. next year!
Moonrise Cottage was a perfect little "love nest," just the right-size for the two of us! We appreciated the central location that allowed us to access all the different parts of the island, as well as the proximity to a great walking path hugging miles of beachfront. We even had our own private monk seal who was taking a rest on the sand just a short distance from our front door! The cool tropical decor also made us feel like we landed someplace different. We can certainly understand why you fell in love with Kauai and we hope to be able to come back in the future.
Aloha Cottages is a wonderful spot for a family vacation. Both cottages are clean with comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. We that's me, my sister from the UK; my son and daughter in law from Las Vegas; and my daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren, aged 8 and 12 from Toronto visited for a week in August and had a great time. Close to Baby Beach and the small town of Kapaa, the location of the cottages is superb. Great to stroll along the bike path to Kapaa for coffee or a smoothie. While Waimea Canyon and other tourist must sees are easily reached by car. The ever-changing view of the Pacific from the porch was amazing and one of my favourite memories is of relaxing on the porch with a book and a glass of wine, watching as two yachts skim across the water.
Dear Charlie and Susan,
We stayied at your beautiful cottage in March of this year. It is hard to put into words how fantastic it was. The overall feeling of staying here can best be described as ALOHA and OHANA.....Love and family. We came with our three 20 something children. Many of our best memories involve your property. Enjoying the ocean view, watching whales breach out front, welcoming the sunrise each morning, playing frisbee and Bocci Ball in the front yard, people watching on the bike path and looking for "treasures" out front at low tide.
Your house was well appointed with everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, furnishings warm and homey. We especially enjoyed spending time with Charlie as he was staying at Moonrise Cottage during our first few days. We will NEVER forget our spectacular Kauai Vacation. Your home exceeded our expectations and I have to say I wish I could give it six stars!! Five just doesn't seem enough.
